Lethal Tournament Build for Thief!
In the video you just spam HS, why on the earth did you choose to pick D/P, if you weren’t going to use blinding powder + HS? Why do you use hide in shadows? You are definetly NOT using all the D/P potential. Check this video (wvwvw one, not mine, but still it shows how good could D/P be in duels) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ecl8d0TQGQ and give this build a try. Use berserker amulet and jewel for spvp.

Even the burst sequence he described is a neutered version of Caed’s (without BP + Backstab which is about half of the burst lol…).

This has been the standard 25/30 since launch. I don’t know what you’re doing different besides d/p and most Thieves have been using d/p in tournaments because it has always been superior in tournament play. Thanks for making a video though, will help new players.

Pretty much, but there are only so many builds people can make.

He is doing something different, and that is only using heartseeker in a d/p setup… which is frankly the very opposite of helpful for new players trying to understand the d/p set…

Yeah, not really though, the bps field is so small when i fight the lame fotm d/p thieves, i can stand outside the blind field and hit them with melee without getting blinded

Better than doing the very opposite of what any knowledgeable player would recommend and just spamming the crap out of Heartseeker.
There’s no way that strategy actually works. That’s like playing Street Fighter and just endlessly jamming the crap out of the punch button.
First pop Assassins Signet and Basilik Venom.. try not to attack anything right now. Then use heartseeker and use the steal while in mid air.
Welp nobody can accuse you of being a no skill cookie cutter thief!

I hope this isn’t a serious attempt at a viable PvP build. If this build attacked me, I would probably burst out in to laughter as I finished the player off.

I don’t know if “my” build is or not viable for high level tournament play (do they still exist?), and I don’t even know why 25 30 0 0 15 is the only viable thief tournament build.
What I know is that the OP could use even a FOCUS off-hand and obtain the same result. He is NOT using the pistol. He is NOT using BP+HS combo. He is NOT using headshot to interrupt. He could even NOT carry an off-hand weapon and still do “fine”.

I did not say nor care what type of build this is for. It is the OP’s use, or lack of, that I was responding to. And if you are saying that constant spamming of HS is the only viable way for tournament play, then I will stick with WvW thank you very much.
I watched this from the beginning and thought; Interesting, this is the exact same build that all super bursty back stabber thieves are using.
Then we came to the point where he said: Assassin’s Signet → Basilisk Venom → HS → Steal → HS until death.
And I was like: ROFL! Seriously?! How do you even kill people? Dodge, dodge and hey, you just lost. Heatseeking may work against NPC’s in the Mists, but not against real players with half a brain. You’re not even using the full potential of the pistol off-hand. You have a gap-closer with blind attached. Blind field that can give you stealth if HS through it (also giving you backstab). An interrupt which is perfect to use against heals or channeled attacks.
You are just using Heartseeker. Wow.
Melder – Thief
If you aren’t using the pistol offhand for blind field, a good sword thief will own you every time. HS spam may work in hotjoins but never in tournaments, at least not against any higher tier teams.

I don’t know why all of a sudden people are so focused on bps. I play s/d and encounter d/p Very often and s/p now and again. You can stand outside the tiny aoe and melee without getting blinded at all except the initial shot. It’s really not that effective

That’s because they’re bad. If you back up instead of just standing in the middle they’ll have to pass through it. Even if they try circling around it, you just have to move as well to stay on the opposite end.
Now, it won’t stop a whole group of melees from touching you. That’d be overpowered anyway.
I’ve never had BPS be anything more than a minor annoyance to me. Yes sometimes they’ll back out trying to force you in, thats what shadowsteps are for. I dont know, its strong in PVE against trash mobs but otherwise i’ve always found it to be pretty weak
Just swap to SB and drill them with some detonated Cluster bombs. They’ll run like a girl or die.
