Lets all take a step back.
but then slowly we end up with 1 weapon set with 2 skills and half a utility because “well theres something viable lets ignore the unviable/broken stuff”
For example if suddenly D/D was changed to do no damage and be totally unviable but P/P was buffed to be the best weapon ever, is it ok that D/D no longer works? If not why? We would still have P/P viable?
Its because the games meant to be about choice and viably customizable builds, the moment people end up just “accepting” that certain things will never be viable all that choice starts to fade.
Ideally what should happen is people discuss both in a rational and semi-thought out manner at the least, however this being the internet the best we can really hope for is equal amounts of hyperbolic spam either side with the occasional good posting about both sides.

I changed my Enginer for thief exclusively for shortbow. Sorry, kitten adaptation. I`d rather just roll another alt with mechanic i enjoy rather than playing a class where the main thing i enjoyed is reduced to “lol shadowstep utility”
I’m still using Mug for my tPvP build. Staying power is lovely right now /shrug
Resident Thief
wait what? there are complaints about this patch? thieves got buffed for once. you can’t be serious. i am having such a good time right now. mug is now a SICK mid-combat clutch heal and finisher. I am loving it.

There are ppl who think steal is only good as opening strike. But agreed though, I like the change to mug.
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
I switched fro mug to 10 in trickery to get might, fury, and swiftness, plus 3 ini on steal. I’m also trying out the stealth on steal. So now I use steal as a counter punch type move.
I’ll probably switch back to mug and see how it works out in the same situation, as a recovery/counter move. The stealth on steal also doesn’t seem to be as important as, say, condition removal on stealth.
Because all the QQ’ers are jumping here all the time. I’d we don’t defend our class it will be completely destroyed.
to the op: the door is that way →
How about we just scrap the Thief class completely and see what other class is the next poopstain of the month…
I don’t understand the hate for the mug nerf. It can’t crit now. And?
It’s still extra damage on Steal, which is nice. It also heals now, which makes pinballing around groups and stealing mid-fight a little more rewarding. Sure, the huge chunk of burst is gone, and I notice that, but it’s not like they murdered the skill.
From the beginning I’ve enjoyed how you could customize Steal to work for you, and it still has that. Even if Bountiful Theft kind of sucks in the Might department.
They’re going to add Shadowstepping to it, right? Even better.

My secondary is a Ranger. I thought that was them.

Im betting mesmer or ele would be next, after they get removed who knows.. maybe guardian then open season.
People’s complaints are valid. There is a reason why the majority of people play high burst, glass cannon builds. Thieves provide good burst damage and.. er… well that’s about it. With the nerf to mug they have also nerfed arguable the most effective thief build. Many would gladly swap the 2k heal for the ability to crit with mug again.
Now i’m not against this change. I understand why Anet want to move away from high burst damage and create more interesting gameplay with thieves, but you need to offer a viable replacement to glass cannon build. While there are some more balanced, survivable thief builds, these come with drawbacks and limitations and I would have trouble justifying playing a thief to fulfill this role over an elemnetalist for example. For it to be balanced the profession should be on par or superior to other professions in this aspect, which i don’t think it is yet.

I bet it’ll be necros.
but..but…but…but…but….
…but what about every other new or old player who whine in the last 8 months, helping anet to nerf thief to this?
..
This post was ment to be a positive thing, yet people are taking it offensively. Lets bring it back to what we can do as a proffesion to move forward. My goal is to avoid the negativity and move forward while sharing positive thoughts and ideas. As is, Thief is still a pretty powerful proffesion in all aspects of the game and I truly believe we can come together with some new ideas and builds to make gameplay even better than before.
I’m not saying ignore the things that are bad (IE. Shortbow changes). I just want us to be more focused on bettering our proffesion at this point, rather then dwelling on something that’s already done and won’t be reverted for awhile. Thats all :]

Right. They’ve said that they know about the non-viability of other builds, and they promised to fix it. It’s just a matter of will it be fixed in 2 months or 2 years, and what are we supposed to do in the meantime?
It’s really just a matter of numbers’ adjustment… not a ton of design work. Pistol #2 needs to do more damage and have its initiative cost reduced. Healing power needs to scale better. Venoms need to actually DO something. It’s not hard, really… Unless they are working with a 2-man dev team or something.
