I’ve been a little obsessed with bunker builds lately. Thief bunker builds to be more precise…
They don’t work, at least that’s what people have been trying to tell me.

Void.4239 came out with a build and posted it not long ago (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/PVP-bunker-dodger-build-New-Vids-Part3)

I looked at that build and instantly felt the need to thank him. He had found a way for a thief to hold a point without stealthing. The following is my take on his build. I changed a few things but the bare essentials are what really define it, and I toss all credit to the original build-maker.

p/d is fairly good bunker build: when you aren’t in stealth, you are evading.

I’m gonna be toying around with the idea for a bit, possibly making some changes in the near future. I was thinking of going with a Sigil of Geomancy in one of the daggers, it might add some killing power…

p/d doesn’t work well for bunkering at all… it has no built-in evade like sb, d/d, s/d and s/p and it has no blinds like x/p. It’s probably the worst set actually. Your only “evade” is a skill that shadowsteps you backwards out of the circle vs melee and is useless vs ranged.

p/d is fairly good bunker build: when you aren’t in stealth, you are evading.

I might have to give it a go considering the potential Condition Damage mixed with manoeuvrability. I’m hesitant though because it seems (speaking from when I used to play d/p) that the weapon set focuses on CnD a little too much… I guess I could try just avoiding it like I do on the d/d but it’s just so darn tempting xD

You are just doing it wrong. When specced right, it has lots more defense than d/d:
d/d wastes it’s initative on that useless 1/4 second evade, while p/d saves all of it’s initiative to gain 4 second cloack and can also stay at range. The constant cloacking gives also very good counter against conditions.

d/d works much better. You keep CnD, you can apply weakness with 15 DA, you have a higher potential damage output if you need it and the bleeds it applies last a lot longer meaning you don’t need to be in active combat for quite as long + it has a built-in evade. You only lose range.

I think you’re missing the point here, in PvP you can’t hold a point if you’re in stealth and therefore every second that you stealth your enemy is capping the point you’re trying to defend. That’s why people attempt to make bunker Thieves that dodge rather than stealth.

The only reason to go bunker is holding points in spvp. Going bunker in wvw is a waste of time.

Pretty unique build. Not much of a fan in traps though as i whole heartedly believe they are just too underpowered. 3 utilities i can suggest is Roll for init, shadow step, and caltrops to make the build more viable and actually able to assist you to kill people (if you have to). I’ve actually been a non stealthed thief (P/W lol) and still is since prelauched. I tested the traps and really really wanted to like them.. but they are just kinda bad…
