Logic behind more mobility?
BAD move Anet. I seriously /facepalmed as well with this single change. I’d like to hear the reason behind this one from a dev. Maybe for a future ‘tuning down’ of stealth?
(edited by Khenzy.9348)
Could be preparation for introducing a hard-counter to stealth. I can’t follow the reasoning for it either. I wish they’d annotate the patch notes with their reasoning instead of just “X now does Y”.

You mean like they did with Gw1?
It’s just a huge facepalm. It’s already hard enough to guess where the permastealth thief has vanished to. But with more speed it’s even worse now. I doubt that there is any reasoning behind this. At least no rational reasoning

You always hear people say a counter to stealth is aoe, and when I stealth people always aoe a million miles away and I think to myself “wtf I’m nowhere near that” now with this, I might be running into it since I’m moving that much faster, that’s the only thing I can think of
A lot of the profession changes are kind of “huh?”, and I’m guessing unless we’re ranked in the top tPvP teams you probably can’t fathom the reason they changed it. (i.e. ArenaNet is probably making changes based on how the top teams perform)
You always hear people say a counter to stealth is aoe
Those people are, and have always been, wrong. AE isn’t a good counter to stealth, and people only say it because they’ve heard others say it, not because they’ve actually implemented the idea and found it effective.
At best, AE is a better counter to stealth than standing around doing nothing, which is what a lot of people do when confronted with it.
Im giving up falling damage for it.
So you could probably jump off a cliff and I can’t follow you :P.
Prob because Rangers/necros are getting a 25% passive speed increase(I think eles too) sometime in the future, making signet of shadows obsolete against those classes. Let’s see how it plays out before we jump to conclusions.
Because apparently thieves have a hard time escaping from battles
But now we have: 25% increased move speed. Short bow teleport. Stealth stacking AND 50% movement in stealth.
I dunno, it’s bizzare is all I’m saying, I will abuse it on my thief while it lasts I guess but I still think it’s just a wrong move lol.
(forgot the steal teleport and shadowsteps!)
This change is going to entice me to remove my 50% fall dmg and also replace 25% runspeed with blinding powder so I’ll be slower over the distance unless I use all my end and init chase and I won’t be able to ninja off cliffs anymore. Still torn.

just tested it out. not working. still giving only 33% not the advertised 50%
I doesn’t look faster than Swiftness indeed.
Maybe they added because Ele’s can now catch up to us, if not argueably move faster then us?

It doesnt work I dont think, I cant feel the difference at all.
Camelot Unchained is on Kickstarter.

I assume they only buffed this because they made the IMS signets for the other classes from 10% to 25%. I’m w/e with it but I’m sure they could’ve buffed pistols a bit more -
Edit: Can’t tell if working. Thought I moved faster, then realized I wasn’t wtf.

I guess they had to fix it – couldn’t have anyone killing the darling profession of GW2. :p

80 Ele (2), 80 Engi (3), 80 Rev (2)
Bad change for everyone involved. More people rage quit against thieves, so the thieves are left to fight what?
Yesterday someone was complaining about how a 25% movespeed to other classes would kill thief. I guess this was done so that thieves wouldn’t die from the massive 25% speed buff.
95% of thieves don’t even use that trait
what’s the complain about ?
personaly i don’t even consider add more points in acrobatics, or to change falling damage for that trait: advantage is to small compared to the other traits
A-net buffed this trait to compete with the others in that tree : might on dodge /vigor on heal / cloack on falling.

That about sums up it up. None of those other traits were too strong. 33% was just not worthwhile.

Not long ago stealth got nerfed in that using Shadow Shot now causes you to drop cloak. It used to be you could Shadow Refuge and double bowshot away before you were even visible.
Most other classes probably didn’t even know this. The 50% buff to run speed in stealth offers similar escapability, but now you must trait for it.

as a guardian id like to have atleast 1% of that speed boost not joking we have zip notta.. as a wise man once siad " we are the fat kids in a game of tag "
guardian can run around fast
you have a bunch of skills that grant swiftness, and then the greatsword leap covers a good bit of ground
mesmer, though, had awful out of combat mobility. I hope this change fixes the problem
we have 2 speed boost both on 30sc more cds everyone else perma speed boost and leap skill

A net said they will be nerfing AOE soon….

Class balance philosophies
We normally try to employ metered and controlled balance changes with each pass, rather than huge reductions or improvements to classes. We want to get all classes on the same playing field, and we want to avoid “whack-a-mole” style balance. HUGH increases and HUGE decreases lead to meta instability, and thusly, we try to make multiple small tweaks rather than putting in massive changes that we have to later correct.
When designing and balancing the classes, we try to make sure that class roles and identities stay intact. So, in doing so, we make sure that there are rules and boundaries outlining the capabilities and weaknesses of each class.
Thief
Thieves are the masters of mobility, stealth and high single target damage. They can be very fragile if you counter their stealth with area of effects or large stacks of conditions, but they trade this fragility in order to have some of the highest burst damage in the game. They are able to help allies through traps, venoms and the mobility to flank most encounters.

Incidentally, neither of these are effective counters to stealth, especially conditions if the stealthed thief is running condition removal on stealth.
So, yeah, I’m saying ANet doesn’t know what they’re talking about when it comes to actually combating stealth on the field. Maybe they intended for AE and conditions to be effective counters, but they aren’t.
this is kitten its not like PD thieves were already awesome. I suppose it does also help sword dagger position better for the daze strike. But… really. Plenty of other fixes would have been more welcome. pathing on flanking strike for example… considering the buffs to other classes, this does not look good at all to me

Maybe they should hire you to explain them….Anyways….Do you realize that none burst thief have point in Acrobatics, and every Condition thief have Power of Inertia instead of Fleet Shadow? Is the new E-Sport to QQ for the sake of QQ-ing?

AOE and conditions are definitely the counter to stealth. Those of you who disagree have no idea what you are talking about.

I’m not saying I know it better, but I can say I’ve pretty much played on a p/d thief so I’m pretty familiar with stealthing, and watching people use aoes while I’m stealthed, soooo ……….

Sooooo since you are P/D Thief do you have Power of Inertia or you have the new-OP-trait-Fleet Shadow?
Edit:Just to clarify:I don’t have it either,neither i use Shadowstep as a stunbreaker,neither i use Shortbow(that’s the Ususal Suspects for the thief hyper-mobility).I don’t defend my playstyle here.Actually i feel safer close to the enemy,where i can C&D.
But the whining for the sake of the whining annoys me,that’s why i argue with you.

All this QQ for a crappy trait buff lol wow. Clueless indeed.
No skilled thief is going to use this, not even for a second. I own’t even bat an eye at the trait tbh.

I’m not trying to argue, my op was pretty much just saying how aoe sucks against stealth
this is just another thread for every non-thief to complain about how OP thief is.
A patch that does not include a 50% damage nerf to a thief skill is a good patch.
My ranger also got a very nice set of boosts.

It doesn’t!!!! SUCKY player’s AOE sucks against stealth, like every aspect of their gameplay.Yesterday i fought a very good Warrior(i won’t say his name cuz he is arrogant, but he knows who he is). This guy knew where i am in Stealth and was completely destroying me not with real AOE,but with the GreatSword semi-aoe skills.
The Opposite example:Warrior who have not even Shake it Of and just staying on top of the caltrops slashing the air in panic. The difference is huge.

Honestly, I think Eles are capable of being faster then Thieves, even with this buff.

Quick question: does this boost make us move at +33% speed in combat also?
Cause we get slowed down in combat, does this make us normal swiftness speed even in combat?

Being in combat gives everyone a 30% speed nerf, so with a 50% speed buff you would be running around with 1*0.7*1.5 = 1.05 so you’re running 5% faster than a character out of combat without a speed buff.
GJ arenanet u are ruining the game , thief are OP now so just buff them more gj!
This is the perfect example of a whiner.
They buff a class that isn’t the class you play, you come on the official forum and start whining saying “X is OP gjgjgjgj nerf plz”.
