I just created a thief and I really like how the 3rd weapon skill changes depending on what your offhand is. Even if the offhand is empty.

But I assume no one uses just 1 one-handed weapon. That 3rd skill would have to be REALLY good to justify giving up 2 more skills.
Its almost a waste to bother creating these off-hand empty skills because of that.

Has there been much talk of ever filling in the 2 last skills slots when using only a one-handed weapon? I guess if they did it for the thief, they would have to do it for all classes. That would give them a chance to breath new life into weapons that people never use.
Oh but then people would be wanting new skills for off-hand only weapons too. Some would make sense, like a necro that only has an off-hand focus. But others would be weird, like the thief would have a completely different skill set just for switching the dagger from his right hand to his left. And you would have warriors using only a shield as a weapon, or rangers with only a horn.

I suppose I see why they didnt open that can of worms. Still, its a shame these off-hand empty skills never get to play.

It would be good but remember that the off hand weapon adds to stats and houses a sigil as well as giving skills.

I always wished it’d be possible just cuz it’d look cool. There’d need to be a way to replace the stats though so focus would be a nice choice. Or just add a Thief glove or bracelet to game. XD

I still crave the addition of fist weapons as well but that would be a new weapon style in general.

true, but 2handers are still 1 sigil short as well.

Just add a trait that allows the stats of the 1h weapon to be doubled. The tricky part is deciding which trait line this should be placed in.

One-handed Mastery: Reduces Initiative cost by 1 and doubles the stats of your mainhand weapon only when one weapon is equipped. Master Trait in " X " My guess would be either Critical Strikes or Acrobatics.

Because it hasn’t been said yet: the reason thieves have “off-hand light” skills is so that when first starting the game / levelling, a thief that has yet to acquire an off-hand weapon still has three weapon skills. Without them, a thief would tend to quickly unlock Heartseeker or Infiltrator’s Strike or something, then have only that and the auto-attack until they find a shortbow or off-hand weapon.

Edit: Regarding below- To ANet’s credit, at least they’re obviously bad. Once a player sees unload, they know there’s no point in trying to make repeater work and move on.

Mixing insults with your post is like pooping in a salad.
It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.

It should be noted too that the no off-hand dual skills are mostly just weaker versions of existing ones. Repeater (pistol) is a much weaker Unload. Twisting Fangs (dagger) is a vastly nerfed Death Blossom. Stab (sword) is… well, Stab is just bad.
