I used to get so mad at thieves in sPvP, so I decided to roll one to figure out how to counter some of the abilities. What I found instead, was a new profession that I can switch to when frustrated over just about anything in-game, one that makes me a little happier and less frustrated. Here’s why:

1. I work with three buttons, one to stealth, one to open, and one to spam. <3 it!

I’m not making fun of this profession, I’m not being sarcastic, I honestly enjoy the playstyle. Yes its the easiest thing in the world to do, but when you’re frustrated and need a break from whatever you’re doing, easy helps.

Now before anyone comes in here dogging me, let me say this, I get just as many glory points if not more while playing thief as opposed to my main. I don’t care if I cant stand up to anyone in a 1v1 with the class, I kill multiple folks in a short amount of time when I run in to a zerg with my own zerg, and I enjoy myself doing it.

No no no. That’s if he was like “hitting someone for 15k with one button feels kitten amazing, period.” They just won’t say that in public, in fear of someone noticing and nerfing though.

It’s the same for me when i play most other professions, but mostly Mesmer and Warrior.

I do nearly the same damage i do with my Thief, just that I’m basically immortal and have to care about nothing.
It’s absolutely rediculous, and after playing those professions for quite some time (which is terrible, terrible boring since there is absolutely no challenge on anything with them) i ask myself how you can even die playing a Mesmer, or to a lesser extent Warrior, too.

Then i go back to my Thief and at first i simply die to everything, since i completely degenerated in skill from playing other classes, since you don’t have to care about positioning, timing skills, decision making, escape plans, picking targets, managing a ressource… nothing.
Just sitting around and pressing what’s off CD and remotely useful.
It’s a joke to play.

But at least i recognize that i would completely suck at playing these other classes in high level PvP.

Fazit: Everybody can pick up certain different classes and absolutely wreck with them in the lowest of the low PvP bracket.
And if you (can “effectively”) play Thief with 3 buttons, you definetly belong to the lowest of the low.

Screw that playstyle, sure I rolled a thief to backstab some people, but quickly moved on to the superior D/D condition build, got bored of that, changed to a venom share P/D build and haven’ t looked back since. It is quite satisfying to watch your foes get eaten away little by little from sneak attacks while you juke around and outplay them.

I can only contrast Ranger and Thief as they are my only fully exotic geared 80’s… I have played everything else in PvP though.

GC and condition builds are fun on both. The thief is harder to get right… but much more rewarding when it is done right.

Yup, same thing happened to me. I now use a thief to rank up in sPvP because it requires little thinking and I can easily get 400+ rank points per match just by spamming kills. I can see why a large number of people enjoy playing it.

You are making a confusion here, although i kinda understand your statement.

The thief class is by no mean a class that requires “little thinking” with easy rewards, thats presomputous and arrogant, to put it bluntly.
Most builds will actually require a lot of reflex and awareness of your surroundings, along with precise initiative and CD management.

If you’re talking about BS, yea it works pretty well in spvp because many players are still completely clueless and can’t defend themselves.
If you mean you just get in spvp, pick a target and 22222222 yea it’s totally kitten doesn’t require any neuron whatsoever, and gives great results rewarding brainless gameplay for a way too low initiative cost, autoaim and pretty decent gap closer (especially combined with the autoaim).

Otherwise if you try to be a bit more creative, P/P, S/P and D/P aren’t the cheesy walk you try to make it sound it is.
Don’t confuse skills that need tweaking and a whole class itself.

It’s like the suggestion forum crying “NERF!”

It seems like people even trying our class have some grande view of our class being the simplest thing ever YET I’m constantly on the move and hate to play thief without my gaming mouse simply because of all the keys I hit in succession to play well. Sorry but I must agree that if you think playing a Thief is mind numbing your seriously talking out of your kitten

The thief is the only profession in this game that requires skill. This is largely due to initiative.

That’s not how it works either man, pressing 1234 doesn’t require skill on any profession, skill is postionning, management, anticipation, using a rotation and knowing when you will have to step aside the usual one, efficient knowledge of your class and how you will build it (as opposed to google > copy/paste), knowledge of you you work within a team and on your own, etc

Let’s take the infamous 100b as an exemple.
A terrible player will only get kills out of it because soon as he sees a target he will launch his rotation. Most of the time he will fail, and sometimes he will land it on a exhausted opponent who is out of means to counter it. And while it’s on CD, he will be nothing more than a cleuless sack of potatoes randomly hitting stuff hoping it drops.
The good warrior will pressure his opponent and create opportunities where he will lead his opponent to exhaust all his options before the warrior uses 100b.
There is no skill involved in pressing the buttons that activates the rotation in either case, the difference lies where you play your mind game, and it goes like this for every class.

Balance should take that into consideration, and this is why i am way more reserved with things like pressing the same buttons over and over again until the target dies without doing anything else than hit it ‘til it dies.
Currently that is what i reproach to 2222 thieves, some tanky builds with guardians, eles, engies, builds that are way too forgiving regarding the fact that they all revolve around hitting stuff until it dies while not having to care about strategy or one’s own safety.
This is by no means a statement about how classes are easy, this involves an issue with balancing some skills themselves.

Nice OP, i agree with you , sometimes you find other classes more efficient in sPvP.
As an main thief /alt guardian -both top items i play sPvP with an lvl 1 warrior -rifle gs.
I find funny that i can hit 9000
damage / kill shot from 1500 range twice in row (10 sec cooldown) unless i target an class with aegis up.

Superior condition build? Are u kidding me?

Ask people to play bs or condition thief, all can play condition thief very well after 10 min of practice, but no one of this can manage to kill multiple target in bs build after 10 min of practice….and no…no also after 1 week of practice.
P/D is kinda predictable if you know what that class HAVE TO DO to kill his target.
