Hi Tyrians,

Is it impossible to make “Steal” (F1) proffession mechanic to “Stealth”?

I mean thief falls short in every gamestyle (WvW, PvP, PvE, Raids) and imo it needs massive overhaul.

I know many ppl will say thief is OK, it has great DPS and mobility. But thats not the point, when i check builds on popular websites, i dont see any stealth based build which may mean those are not viable. Damage may be OK, but thief is too plain to play it.

Yes i like to see big numbers but i think thief should be more about stealthing.

It may be huge change but Thief need that huge change, what is the posibility of changing “Steal” (F1) to “Stealth” with stealth i mean permanent stealth. Is this change may break other game mechanics?

Imo, I dont think giving perma stealth to thief wont ruin the game or even ruin the “balance”. But yes i know its not that simple, they have to check on traits and other thief skills.

After 2 quarterly updates. I’m not really happy about thief changes, yes it may be getting better, but not about gamestyle. They are promoting damage dealing and evading. But no change for stealth mechanic, which getting worst every patch because they are buffing and promoting other things. That means nerf for stealth actually since its getting less and less viable every update.

I’m still having hard time to find raid for my Thief or finding a PvP team or WvW squad. I’m mostly the only thief in WvW squads. But i know WvW have bigger problems. But the worst is i’m getting bored with new Thief gameplay, it has no fun for me, its too plain.

Anyway here is a word from GW2 official website “Experts at stealth and surprise, thieves can move through the shadows, vanish into thin air, or steal items from their opponents and use them as weapons” but it doesnt feel like that false advertisement?

When i check Thief skills i really like them, stealthing, traps, poisons, but in actual gameplay they are not viable. Imagine the possibilities with those skills if they are viable.

TL:DR: I would like to see major overhaul about Thief stealthing.

A toggle able perma stealth would be horrible, but an insta cast 3-4 sec stealth that causes Aoe blindness with a 240 radius on 25 sec CD would be more balanced and fit with Thief gameplay more, but with how Anet seems to be trying to delete Stealth by constantly adding in spammable Revealed this would never happen and stealth will be left in its pathetic broken state.

Hmmm. Stealth in sPvP is vital. Its not your answer to everything, but there are a lot of situations where you need it, be it for offense, defense or just deception.
If you mean ‘perma-stealth’ do you mean a stealth toggle (already rendering all other stealth sources obsolete) or something like ‘second shadow’(broken)?
Either way this would require to rebalance the entire class around it, just changing the profession mechanic and letting everything else as it is wont do.
Depending on how high the cooldown is this could even be a nerf. Steal usually decieds a fight.

All in all I could imagine this, but rather as a function of a future elite spec mechanic.
Daredevil focusses on the bruiser type, another elite spec could improve our stealth aspect.
And bound to an activation cooldown and either a casting time or a to-hit requirement. Stuff needs counterplay.
