Making a Thief?
I use this http://bit.ly/Tkp1ow
Ignore the runes/trinket.
Based around Blind, and mobility. Using high number of hits and high init generation to self heal. also uses poison to weaken targets. Its kinda an all-round build.
mainly for pve/dungeons however it works in pvp, dont expect to be insta-killing other people, however do expect to be slippery and annoying.
I like this as it does not require stealth, however i can produce stealth using pistol #5 +dagger #2 or AoE stealth with pistol #5 and shortbow #2.
I would probs label this as a dps/support build.
(yes scorpion wire is amazing as it is a knockdown, pull and projectile finisher all in one)
Edit: i also use this in WvW… occupied around 20-30 people as they chased me around the map… lol
Why using class mechanics is called abusing of something lol ? And speaking in spvp…just turn all the chat off lol. Every time I use HS to close gap or finish someone when they at 25% and fleeing like little kittens i see this “222222” . Good thing i dont play spvp much. Strangelly, few nights back i have created S/D full bunker bunker thief and i got flamed couse of beeing too slippery and lame by an actual 25/30/0/0/15 2222222 spamming thief and a gc warrior who had bad time speaking english o,o

- I’d only consider the person actually dying to HS spam a noob >.< Our class design punishes spamming badly. Making them waste all their initiative then putting their lights out is crazy easy.
- Backstab is actually REALLY hard to pull off vs a target who actually moves around during a fight. Ofc if they go all WoW style and just stand there….well they ahd it coming. So, most definitely not noob.
- Well, even I have to admit this build is really broken, however you can stalemate it pretty easily with condition purging and good healing, two things no one should enter any form of PvP without.
@Karolis – People who run noob killing builds generally get frustrated by someone who runs a real PvP build….
People who complain about thieves being noobs are generally noobs themselves. When I use to try a condition build people would complain about how quickly i could apply bleed stacks when they would make no attempt to move out of my caltrops, or how OP backstab is with basilisk venom when they didn’t use a stun breaker or try to avoid it.
The profession has some very strong abilities when other players make no attempt to counter them. Play against decent people who know how to deal with these builds and you’ll see the profession isn’t nearly as OP as the forums would have you believe.
With that said, there are some gimmicky builds that can get cheap kills, which are annoying, but there is a difference between cheap and OP.
backstab and bleeding thieves are not noobs but heartseeker spamming thieves are noobs cuz u have not skill and all u do is spam heartseeker. But i would try and pistol/pistol build with sword/dagger build.
Playing a thief you’ll come to understand anything and everything we do is either considered OP, newbish, or unfair. Just play to your liking and as long as your having fun with it, who cares. Like Alex said, “People who complain about thieves being noobs are generally noobs themselves.” When they say stuff like that, just toss em a /laugh and proceed to backstab/HS them and enjoy the kills.

Yeah, it’s a noob build, but can’t kill anyone who isn’t a noob. HS spam is altogether a L2P issue, both for the thief and the person actually dying to that.
So is there a way to actually play thief – one of most op classes in this game and don’t get flamed ?
Getting flamed in pvp, especially this kind of pvp, is a compliment.
Im kinda afraid that at some point those comments might seriously hurt my gameplay.
Turn them off.
THFs mechanics require use to abuse our abilities, hence initiative. Those who get beat by thieves just need a reason to ease the kitten kicking they just received and call us noobs. If they die to HS spam, they are the noobs (as others stated)

I’ve played every class in the game now pretty extensively in PvP and I can honestly say vs a truly good opponent, the thief has some of the most difficulty actually winning in any 1vs1 encounter. (With the notable exception being the “training wheels” build of P/D bleeds. In which case, just walk away, they can’t catch you utilizing that weaponset, force the swap to mobiliy set then put pressure on them.)
Those that complain run PvE builds with little experience in the other classes. It is impossible to counter something you don’t fully understand without first hand experience using the mechanics you intend to counter.
