Yaks Bend
LocknDog- level 80 thief
New GM trait in deadly arts.
5% extra damage for every venom applied on your character. Applies to allies
I doubt that would do it. Sorry to shoot you down but what will “fix” venoms is making the GM trait Venomous Aura part of the venom’s effects, at minimum.
And by “Fix” i mean make more appealing.
Venoms are garbage, you lose far too much utility to use a build based around them.
They would need a total redesign to be worth using.
Look at how venoms are used currently, a condi build will use them upfront in the fight and hope the target doesn’t have burst condi cleanse. Power builds rarely use venoms even though they would certainly benefit from using them (not in their current format tho).
3 of out of 4 utility venoms are for control, only 1 has a high dmging condition (torment).
As a thief that wants to use some additional control in my power build, what do I get?
1 use of control condition every 45seconds, even with the proposed reduced cd, it’s still way too long cd. The insta cast allows for good timing but it’s still on long cd. Compare this to sigils that gives same condis:
Ice drake venom 3 × 1s/45s cd VS ice sigil 2s/10s cd, hydromancy 2s/9s cd
Skale venom 3 × 5s/45s cd VS sigil of torment aoe 5s/5s cd
Spider venom 5 × 6s/45s cd VS doom sigil 6s/9s cd
Devourer venom 2 × 2s/45s cd – no immob sigil
So if I want to use the venoms, I get the desired effect once every 45seconds and while I can control when venoms are applied, with sigils I can get the condition far more frequently. Some even allow for partial control for when I can apply them (wep swap).
Frequent application for control condis with short duration is far superior to possibly long duration with long application cooldown. Don’t forget the target will eventually cleane condis on him.
If I expect my target to heal soon, why would I want to use all poison applications on him all at once cos if you want to keep some of the applications for later, you can’t attack LOL.
In my ideal gw2 world where venoms are useful, they work SAME WAY AS MANTRAS.
It has been suggested many times but Anet is too busy fixing venoms their way.
Using traits to do it is not the way to make Venoms good.
That’s an interesting idea, Jayden. Treating Venoms in a similar fashion as Mantras could -at least- allow for them to be rather “stored up.” Another idea I’ve run into on this forum is to convert ’em into F-Skills.
