Marauder assassin berserker
Berserker offers more damage than Assassin and Marauder. I calculated this before. I would guess Assassin offers more damage than Marauder.
In practice, where you can be killed or pressured to disengage, Marauder offers more because it gives a class with an already tiny health pool, much needed vitality. Vitality enough to stay in the fight longer.

Assassin is junk. I’ve played with both Maruder and Berserker. I’ve had a lot of success with Berserkers just because it offers the most damage. Zerker with staff is amazingly powerful, Vault can crit up to 9k and Weaking charge is even more powerful. The only downside to Zerker is you’ll be extremely squishy. But imo the 500 extra hp you’d get is totally not worth the power of zerker. And since DD has so many dodges anyway it’ll be hard for ppl hit you and when your dodges run out it doesn’t matter because they would already be dead. The only trouble I’ve had is with condi heavy classes but again, not really a problem if u kill them first.
A mix of valk, zerk, and maruaders is optimal for WvW. For pve full Zerker is best.
Assassins is fine IF you are building around a High crit rate and proc on crit effects.
As example an IP build and if in WvW using that Boon duration and might on crit food. If every hit a crit then every hit a heal and if every hit a crit then every hit is might. If you are not going proc on crit effects then it much less effective.
If you have a high crit rate and Vault into a group of enemies with IP running you can get multiple crits and oodles of healing . As such this does not work as well with weapons where there little chance of cleave or of an AOE attack. (it how PP worked so well with IP and the old Richochet ).
If you can vault into five enemies and crit them all with a base of 8k damage on the vault, that a whole lot of heal per vault.
If looking at JUST damage you better off Zerker if you can manage it.

For PvE, and straight power build, it’s still Zerk; which gets closest to the mathematically optimal Pow, Prec and Fer ratio.
But if your build has lots of ‘on crit’ extra damage, then feeding in a couple of pieces of Mara (and not Assassin’s) can increase your damage further. For me, full Zerk except Mara legs was my highest damage output, but that’ll be different for everyone depending upon traits and whatnot.

Darnit I always think in terms of PvP even when PvP wasn’t mentioned.
In PvE, the short answer is berserker is better. The long answer is that there’s a point when precision becomes more valuable, that can only be reached with ascended gear, so you’d need a mix of assassin’s and berserker’s to get the most damage potential.
