Marauder vs Berserker
For WVW I prefer Marauder. The damage loss is minimal, but the increased vitality is worth it in my opinion. When I do happen to do PVE (which is minimal) I still use my marauder set. I’m too lazy to keep separate gear sets.
For heavy coordinated PVE groups (fractals, etc.), Berserker should be better, since thief role is DPS. PVE experts should advise you on this, I’m no expert on high-end fractals or raids.
For every day use, there is no cons as to going marurder over beserker stats… That being said I would only going for weapons and armour and keeping Trinks bersker. I persoannly use scrapper runes over other offensive runes as I still get added power bonus with some nice defence stats too. I will post a link of my current gear and stats but it is all ascended. The stats are my preferred min/max so don’t worry about the odd cavalier piece.

I also use marauder armor and weapons with berserker trinkets and scholar runes, it’s a solid mix for a number of builds and 18k health with food is a very nice amount to be sat on. Exuberance are good, but honestly I think thief gets more out of scholar with the way our damage multipliers work.
Marauder isn’t much more expensive than zerk atm, you don’t get it in chests but if you’re crafting it it makes no odds really. If you’re going marauder it would likely be cheaper to make exotic marauder insignias, the cheapest ascended armor possible (last I checked it was rabid) then reroll the stats, you’d need to check that though.
I mix in cavalier trinkets for WvW as I’m stubborn and play S/P, but I have full zerker trinkets for D/P/PvE/when I’m feeling ballsy. It’s the simplest way to find that ideal balance I find. My build is in my sig.

That’s what I was thinking as well, and I’ve realized in some places you just have to take the hits either it being running out of endurance or not having a place to dodge such as being on a platform (ex. uncatagorized harpies). Even though that’s a small part of the world, but anyone that’s done that level on +T3 knows the struggle lol. I just don’t want to end being being constantly downed.
For most of the game Marauder is going to outperform Berserker; it’s a lot of health for a negligible DPS hit.
The one big drawback of Marauder is that it wastes stats in raids. Berserker gear with critical strikes, banners, and spotter gets you really, really close to the crit cap (~10 precision away), so swapping to Marauder ends up wasting stats and actually underperforming Valkyrie as a result.
I always ran full Berserker stats. I changed to marauder gear, zerk weapons, amulet and backpiece, and zerk+valk trinkets a few months ago. The damage reduction is minimal to a point of not even visible. The sustain though, from the extra HP is a godsend. Being full zerk for a quick gank ( at least for me in wvw ) is not a viable option anymore with all the passives on hit floating around.
Marauder is really nice choice if you don’t mind losing a bit of DPS, as it’s only useful against reflect damage-types passives, since dodging is what you’ll be doing most of the time anyway. However I’d say marauder just because the extra HP can save you if you do mess up a dodge.
