Is the D/P build on metabattle currently the best bang for your buck in terms of success in ranked?

I wanted to run D/P with a build similar to my WvW build but i ended up switching to Power Staff… Staff / Shortbow is really strong in ranked! at least for me.

Just play something else, man. Sad to say it, I really am. I’ve loved Thief since beta, but as of now, when I played my Thief, I lost just about every ranked game. Swapped to a support Ele and started winning.

I wish this game were more about skill than about the class you’re playing.

apart from your own skills and playstyle, d/p is by far the best competitive build. dont get me wrong im not trying to clarify my position (im s/d thief for 3 years) and i personally dislike the style neccesary for d/p.

maybe you started winning with support ele because it actually requires less skill than thief.

anyway success in ranked is ofc possible with thief, thief got sufficient buffs that make him at least viable in ranked gameplay.

there is no actual rotation just combos and reflexive intervening to keep control over points and teamfights. in fight every skill and move u do next depends on your enemies reaction. thats why u cant find simple rotation on metabattle.

this is half the reason why i play unranked more then i play ranked, simply because of s/d. i get bored of d/p win a few games, lose some… then i just go unranked and do a marathon as s/d.

but yes, d/p is and always be the best set for competitive play.

I find S/D to be more to my liking than D/P

i love s/p in Ranked but honestly i feel like i get carried almost every game. thought i been doing a lot better now that i swap in dash.

It is is yes. S/d isn’t bad, its viable, but D/P is the best bang for your buck.

I think Caed’s D/P build is pretty much the best overall for solo/duo que on NA. Sindrener’s D/P build would be better under certain circumstances such as playing in more coordinated games both with and against skilled players.

When condi rev was meta last patch, I played a bound build with channeled vigor, condi clear on dodge, and revealed training for a pseudo-sustain/1v1 build. This build basically used the additional dodges from channeled vigor to help repeatedly re-enter stealth for additional backstabs and maintaining the power bonus from revealed training. I imagine it would still be really good in certain matches like fighting multiple revs.
