Welp, the Scrapper gets AOE reveal and massive amounts of CC and durability. I get it for mesmers and annoying permaneny stealth decap builds, but why do we still have stealth attacks and steal-based damage?

we first have to see how it looks and works in reality, but that sounds aweful. large aoe and short cd. thieves need something for that whole reveal to anything debacle.
still this skill sounds like it removes stealth from enemies without giving reveal debuff. but still thats a hugh hit depending on the aoe size and cd.

Scrapper? Did they do the Engi reveal? (out of the loop)
If it removes stealth without applying Reveal, that would be a much healthier anti-stealth mechanic than they have been using thus far.
This just means that fighting engis will become impossible. Not that I rely on stealth but this combined with the extra dazes they’re getting and cc/ reveal trait they already have.. If you’re not stuck dazed you’ll be getting thrown around like a ragdoll.
Perhaps we’ll see more thieves not running SR as a utility.
don’t forget that the sneak drone gives the engi a fair amount of stealth – so that’s more stealth on classes that don’t get heavy nerfed for it.

Well elite specialisations are about playing your class in a way you did not before.
We had DD style before with s/d and pre specializations Acro but that is not important at this moment.
What is important is when the elite specs are delivered and they get balanced how good/bad do we stand then.
Well if we can not run (hammer 3) and cannot hide (mass aoe reveal) and we can not block or get immunities , then we will need more dodges. Up dodge bar to 4!
dont crap your pants. this still has to compete with supply drop, which is a better choice than anything in pvp, mortar, which is a better choice than anything in large wvw.
for roamers, supply drop vs stealth drone will not be the easiest choice, and if drone wins it will be because of cooldown first, escapability second, and messing with thieves a distant 3rd. thieves are not an awful matchup for engies and dont really rate on their “how should i pick skills” grid.
meanwhile, they are further breaking gwen by giving engies the role of superspeed and mesmer clearing.
To be fair stealth has been far too forgiving a mechanic for a very long time so I welcome more counter play to it, especially as it’s becoming a lot more common.
Try not to focus on the downside but try to use this to leverage for buffs in non stealth areas.
Maybe a rework or reduction in trick cool downs. Would be nice if roll for initiative was reduced to 40s, same with haste getting a cool down reduction, maybe even super speed.

Looking at the other skills we will likely have to use our CC more. Things such as headshot and devourer venom.
In any case I have been focusing on non stealth builds for a while. I think a combination of staff/p/p might be very doable specced for DD countering the new Engie spec. (Altough it does look they will gain access to a whole lot of healing)

It is competing. The stealth / reveal drone is their elite.

the way i read this is that the drone pulses stealth wherever it is (per MMORPG: some drones will try to follow very closely to the caster). its visibility is basically serving the same purpose as the house/bunker in Shadow Refuge, to say “aoe here”.
Basically, its going to be like a SR that moves with the engi, and once the drone wears off the engi will have ~x number seconds of stealth remaining. its pretty kitten. makes mass invis look like weaksauce (except for mass invis’s huge stealth radius)
Are you guys noticing engis are also getting more stability and might? And that it synergizes with Flamethrower? Which is the best weapon to use to catch a Thief in stealth with Lock On, which Reveals stealthed enemies for 6s and gives them 10 vuln at a 1200 range? And that engineers regen health “rapidly” with swiftness and have a popular trait that gives them swiftness every time they use a kit?
So you’re looking at perma-stability, effortless might stacking, swiftness, multiple regeneration sources, mobility, stuns, dazes, not one but TWO good stealth detectors, etc etc.

Think I will. Sounds crazy OP enough where I can take a team of 5 engineers or 4 engineers and a mesmer for the chaos storm and shatter burst (their stealth is irrelevant given their other utilities) and compete against similar setups.
I look forward to the people multi-boxing Engineers so they move in a formation trio, constantly rotating Stealth for 100% uptime and being able to constantly heal one another and alternate their super speed so they never have to slow down.
Not to mention the Orbital Strikes in perfect unison on a single target.
Won’t need multi-box, just Teamspeak and ask guildies for a premade with engis. Maybe not even that. Lots of people will wanna get in on that OP goodness.

I expect it to happen a lot in WvW though.
I remember running into a team of identical clone Mesmers once. There were three or four of them.
It was… very confusing, to say the least. They moved in perfect formation outside of combat, but once combat started they all warped to different places, then didn’t move until I’d try to pin one down—at which point he’d Decoy.
It was silly.
Frankly guys, we shouldn’t be phased by those things anymore. I got kittened when they announced revenant Facet of Darkness then i was like " oh well, i will still kill them. no pity."
Just see it as a challenge, because it is one. Nowadays GW2 is pretty much the “World vs Thieves” , and we’ll just show them that those kitten don’t even affect us us anymore.
I will keep throwing gunk at their dirty drones and stomp their kitten from stealth.
