Title says it all. Not saying the class is bad but I would like to see more than P/D and D/D thiefs running around. I know there are some P/P thieves sprouting up ever since the patch but their damage still don’t compare to D/D. As for S/D builds that used to be viable are now only used by vets that mastered it pre-nerf so they can spank baddies left and right still.

I feel as though our weapon set is so confined and either needs the be expanded or have another look taken at it. I see threads every now and then about a rifle thief and I personally would love to see a 1200 range weapon in the works.

Lastly just to end this little post I would like to point out to anybody crying about the damage on Back Stab still (although their numbers seem to be dying off finally) that the only way to get over 10K damage is to run 100% glass cannon. I know first hand how hard EVERYONE hits me in this game. It doesn’t take much to kill me, you just need to be smart and land your kittens.

you forgot S/P still being viable. pistol whip may be out damaged by the auto attack now, but short term evasion and a short stun that can interrupt help, and it still hits quite hard. the auto attack hits like a truck, and you have a ranged daze and blind from the pistol off hand. plus IS is awesome. it makes a great WvW fighter, never played with it in structured though. would like to see P/P get some love though.

S/P doesn’t even come close to D/D damage though. I always weigh risk versus reward. You could argue that IS is a simple solution but I can get away with CnD just as easily. I’m also not draining my skills on daze. I focus on all out damage and don’t need to worry about my target using skills if they are already on the ground.

I run a P/P build and it does fine since before the patch (5% up doesn’t bring a lot although it is of course appreciated), the hardest part is to realize you have to play it very differently since you can’t rely nor manage stealth the way you would with any other weapon set.

I’d have to argue against your statement about S/D. I didn’t pick it up until after this “nerf” which was really just balancing an ability that was crazy OP. The fact you could have your opponent dazed for the entire duration you spent out of stealth before was a bit ridiculous.

It isn’t a noob friendly setup, no; but no weapon set should be. In a perfect game, all builds should require hours of practice to play well in order to balance the fact that we’re simply so kitten powerful.

In it’s current incarnation, there are certain builds that a complete moron can pick up and go gank other morons with no losses at all. Any moron vs another should have 50-50 shot in a truly skill based combat system.

i dunno about what the Op is referring to, but i believe he was referring to a tPvP environment.

In WvW S/D is a beast ( tactical strike daze is still up to 3 secsn and C&D hits 33% harder than in PvP), but in tPvP S/D doesn’t fill any role.

Stealth is a double edge sword, due to not being able to contest the point while stealthed: S/D now doesn’t have enough damage and control to bring the opponent down fast enough ( C&D+ tactical strike as a whole has been nerfed around 20 % of its damage, A HUGE nerf for a balanced dps build).

While flanking strike hits very hard, it’s unreliable altough you can move while landing the second hit, and overall very slow: you’re basically always better off by simply autoattacking.

Currently P/D and D/D condi thief are good in tPvP due to being very good harassers and duelists, and D/D or S/P burst thieves are very good for their role.

S/D, D/P, P/P on the other way have no real purpose actually: S/D before was a solid alternative to D/D in tournament ( good damage, great survivability and control, a very strong duelist like the ranger and the mesmer): now it’s totally off.

So we have all the rights to ask for other options, because currently we have none.

S/P is viable, but S/P is not as conducive to glass cannon ignore-everything-but-damage play as other builds. If you’ve already got a specific play style selected then your range of viable builds is going to be much narrower than just viable builds in general. S/P suffers from pistol whip not really having a place in PvP unless you’re burning Quickess, but otherwise it offers the excellent damage/mobility of sword mainhand with the excellent utility/control of pistol offhand.
