Hey guys. I’m still a pretty big noob but I think my theory crafting is alright so I wanted to post this idea of a build I have.

So I’ve spent most of my 300 hours of GW2 on my thief. I absolutely love it. Favourite bit is the backstab crit bit so this is my attempt of a build to capitalize upon that.
So for traits I went:
Critical Strikes> Down Middle Top
Deadly Arts> Middle Bottom Bottom
Trickery> Middle Middle Middle
For gear Im running a combination of Assassin Berserker and Valkyrie.
The thought process is to get to 80% Crit chance and then have fury up all the time since we abuse No Quarter which gives Ferocity while we are under Fury and will give an extra 2 seconds on fury every time you crit during fury having an effective 100% crit chance and then using Valks to not be such a glass cannon.
So for gear it is:
Dagger 1 Assassin
Dagger 2 Assassin
Boots Valks
Helm Valks
Shoulders Valks
Chest Assassin
Hands Valks
Legs Valks
Amulet Berzerker
Ring 1 Berzerker
Ring 2 Berzerker
Accessory 1 Berzerker
Accessory 2 Valks
Back Berzerker
The math I got with all of this is that you will have just over 80% crit chance with no buffs from just your Ascended gear here.
Runes would be Scholar for that great buff
Sigils on the daggers Im not totally sure of but one of them would be Sigil of Force for the higher damage.
The nourishment would be Bountiful Sharpening Stone
Food would be Plate of Roasted Cactus or Bowl of Sweet and Spicy Butternut Squash Soup.
Heal spell is Signet of Malice or Hide in Shadows
Utilities are Haste, Roll of Initiative, and Shadow Refuge. These can all change around depending on the circumstance. Other viable ones are Assassin’s Signet, Infiltrator’s Signet, Signet of Shadows, and Smoke Screen.
Elite Skill can change between Thieves Guild and Dagger Storm.
Remember since we did go into Trickery using Dagger Storm and Haste will allow us 1 condition removal each and will let you get out of some sticky situations.

This is my first build so all criticism is appreciated.
Thank you!!~

I was running something pretty similar on S/D a few weeks ago and worked out fairly well. I’ll give ya a few points of thought though, not necessarily suggestions since at the end of the day, builds are all about personal style, and because I don’t feel like working out all the math lol. If anyone does i’d be interested in hearing it as well. Anyways..

- Flawless Strike (CS) is very situational. 90% health is not much, especially on thief. I know you went for several items with Valks, but find out what 90% of your HP is, and keep an eye on it during fights. If you find it staying below for the majority of the fight, I’d consider Side Strike instead. A simple matter of positioning yourself in a fight would add 7% to CS chance, allowing you to maybe swap a piece of Assassin gear for Zerk, getting you more power and still maintaining your base 80% crit chance. Same idea for the Scholar Runes. If you’re not over 90% HP most the fight, it’s pretty useless. The 1-5 stats on the runes are great and always welcomed but if Rune#6 isn’t being utilized for the majority of your fighting experience, you could swap that one out for another rune with +power as the 1st bonus.

-Shadow Refuge is amazing in PvE and probably my favorite skill in all of GW, but if you find that you’re not using it often, you could run Signet of Agility. Again, the idea being to back out of some assassin gear and opt for zerk. Plus, the active on it is pretty useful in certain situations. Yes, if you activate it you won’t be perfect 100% crit chance for 30 seconds, but it will still be high that every hit you do while it recharges could still crit and you wouldn’t even notice you’re not 100%.

-As far as not feeling like a glass cannon, toughness can also negate damage as well don’t forget. Unfortunately there isn’t a Valk equiv gear with toughness instead of vitality but keep in mind that the more HP you have, the less effective Signet of Malice will heal. Toughness will keep you less glassy AND keep your HP pool lower, letting you heal more through SoM and perhaps keeping HP>90% easier through fights, letting your scholar runes and Flawless Strike work more often. A mix of Knights or Cavaliers might make a nice blend instead of some Valk pieces but yeah, Toughness is the main stat on those so DPS might take a small hit.

Sorry for long winded post but I really enjoy build threads and theory crafting lol. Again, not suggestions but just ideas to think about and keep the brain storming going. In the end, just have fun =D

As a thief you don’t need Vitality or thoughness. In a good group you’re just melting bosses everywhere and you just need to learn how to dodge the one shot attacks.

Full ascended Berserker is the best option, it gives near 60% crit with MAX power which is the best DPS.
In a good group, you’d have Banner of Discipline which is 170 more precision, and if running with a ranger you also have Spotter which is 150. Also Signet of Agility is ran 100% in Dungeons. You’d have about 98~% crit chance with Spotter, Banner, Keen Eye and Signet of Agility, if you want to reach 100% crit, the magic number is: 2171 Precision. With just full zerks and signet of agility you get to 2141, so you’re only 30 points away from it, just use precision infusions and you’re set to go.

What would your suggestion be for my weapon sigils? Force in one but what about the other?

eh could really use any. Fire or Air are relatively cheap and would work well. Depends if you want to do more AoE or single target. I would probably go Fire for PvE though
