Need help being a better Thief
I do not consider myself a pro thief, but I have played this profession since beta. For PvE it is really straight forward Sword/Pistol, drop Black Powder and auto attack = win. In almost all cases really. :p
As for PvP. All high tier thieves have learnt other professions by either dueling them or playing them. The thing is to know that to do at key moments. We are squishy, and we always will be. Therefore it is vital for us to know when to dodge, what to look for and where we stand – position and awareness is everything! Look up Sizer, Menzies the Heretic and Caed on YouTube and Twitch – these guys definitely know how to play this profession in PvP! Also, our role is roamer, like 90% of the time. We have burst and mobility – use it! We can get around maps to decap and easily burst down weak targets. Start from there and learn as you play.
For WvW I dare say that Yishis is one of the best thieves around, at least with daggers. You should also check these forums because there are quite a few roaming vids out there that explains a lot.
I can’t join up with you in-game currently since I am on holiday, but I hope this helped! Oh, and check out my under construction guide that I have linked in my footer.
Cheers and best of luck!
Watch videos. Those are the best guides for beginners.
That’s where I started though.
The Thief profession in GW2 is quite unique, but definitely not difficult to do well with (although I consider it the hardest to “master”, along with Shatter Mesmer).
Yea- videos. There are incredible videos of guys 1v5ing with seeming ease. I’ve picked up a lot from watching them, but I still don’t have the skill to 1v5-10.
There was a video about a month ago of 2 thieves against 15-20 that was very impressive.
One of the first steps to becoming a good thief from personal experience even though I’m not great- Get familiar with the utility “Shadowstep”. I’d say about 90% of thieves use it and for good reason. It’s a double stunbreak/double teleport, its fun as hell, adn you can really pull off some crazy kitten with it. Also, learn to time pre-casting CnD/backstab with your teleports. It’s easy to do, but its improtant that you can do it with like 99%+ success, because if you miss time it your combo is kittened and you’re probably dead
