Playing both a warrior and thief, I must say, the thief is a lot more powerful. A warrior, when fully geared towards bursting damage, has one trick up their sleeves every minute or so. That trick is easy to dodge, or when caught, you just need a single stun breaker (remember to keep one against a warrior). The thief, on the other hand, can just recover using stealth and try his one-shot-kill move again.. and again.. and again. Until you succeed, or give up and walk away (in case of bunker Guardians and Elementalists).

Please explain how the thief is using steal (part of the “1 shot kill move”) again and again and again and again. Steal does a good amount of damage, and applies poison (another 10% for your typical 30/30/0/0/10 build). Yes, they can keep using backstab, but you can counter that (generally) by moving away from the direction the thief was going when he stealthed. Warrior can use bola every 20s (i believe), and HB every 8(6 traited) seconds.
Not that I’m claiming warrior is OP, or thief UP – just pointing out the flaw in your argument.

I am not a active member on forums becous of my english but i am playing GW since day one. However this is my first post becous i must say this is not funny anymore. ANet nerfed Thiefs to much, once i loved to play with them, but now i made a new Profession just becous of the nerfs. I hope ANet will not delete Thiefs, but everything is possible if they continue listening to random kids…

I’m also playing thief and warrior and thief is soo much stronger than warrior atm. Yes, in a fair 1v1 a good warrior can actually win against a thief. However, in teamfights thieves completely dominate over warriors. Warriors get completely wrecked by conditions, stuns and dazes.
i had invested too much in my thief to reroll to another class, i invested 300 gold in 1 char, and i am not Pve player. I am not ready to reroll from thief to warrior or elementarist, so i gues i will drop WvW for Spvp if thief will get any nerf

whats this magical one shot kill move you speak of?
Cause Im Traited for 30 pts in the power tree, 30 pts in precision, 10 in trickery, and have nearly FULL berserker +crit dmg gear on (about +100% crit dmg)
And my backstabs hit for about 6.5k on people in WvW. If you have Less than 7 thousand health in WvW, something is terribly terribly wrong.

It’s possible to burst about 10k when conditions are perfect, but that gets increasingly rare as player skill goes up, and can only be done every 45 seconds or so…

I strongly suggest you don’t try again if you fail initial burst.Without Steal Mug,Steal itself ,Basilisk Venom,the might from the Signet activation,the buff from the Signet itself,the buffs from the Steal(they actually last 10 sec so maybe u can steal have time left) you will do a lot less than you will do just spamming Hearseeker.I suggest if you fail switch to Bow and Infiltrators Arrow-the hell-away while you can.
…And as far as the burst Warrior,I fought some good warriors,and they can make your life like hell.They don’t just rely on Bulls Charge/Haste,in fact they keep Haste for a proper timing.They use Shield Bash or Hammer Stuns,paying close attention to the fight,pressing you to use your Stunbreak,and then strike you when they are sure combo will deliver.

I kind of did expect this kind of biased response. Yes, warrior can be pretty nice if you play it really, really well. Do note that you really need to be great to have a decent performance. If you are great on a thief, you have a great performance. So if you aren’t on-par with the best players in the pvp community, and it is no secret that I’m not all that great, the thief is a lot more lenient to make mistakes and escape. We have stealth, teleportation, consistent C.C. (depending on weapon setup) helping us out to recover from a poor attack and escape to have a great chance to try it again and learn from our mistakes. A warrior dies and has to respawn, re-run to the combat area, and that’s really a big hassle and not fun at all. Note that the warrior has really poor C.C. and those that played it know that hundred blades is totally worthless as it roots you and prevents even camera changes. That is why they need knockdown/immobile and those are very easily countered with a stun breaker/teleport/dodge.
For those that wonder about that simple burst, it’s really simple, start with backstab, then do 2 auto attacks, then steal with stealth trait and backstab again. Again, 2 auto attacks, heartseeker, CnD and backstab again. Pretty much anything would be dead, unless you attack a blocking character or something stupid, or they are good and will throw you around and start attacking ya. At any given time when you screw up, teleport/stealth and escape. Come back again to do it properly.
This is why the thief is perceived as OP. It’s easy to play and mistakes can be corrected.

Kind of amusing to see theives nerfed so badly when you got warriors running around in their current condition.
But then again, Thieves were really OP when the game launched and they had to nerf them so badly to calm people down. The thing is, people seem to get agitated every time a thief hits them.
This is why the thief is perceived as OP. It’s easy to play and mistakes can be corrected.
Macroing a glass cannon bs opening does not count as playing. If I as a thief can get out of the initial opening, turn around and smack the thief in the face the warrior has even more of a chance.
And all that about running away… please. Good luck at catching a warrior with signet of rage + gs + shake it off. And good luck if you used your initiative or utilities to catch up with him.

Also a game should not and will not ever be balanced based on “first look” impression(or the fact that some classes are more Prima Vista-friendly).The fact that my grandma can spam “tab” and “2” and will score a first kill sooner than with Warrior proofs what?Guild Wars 2 is a AAA quality game with big plans and ambitions.It will have many Patches,expansions,new skills,new weapon sets(hopefully),so it is ridiculous to label a class to be OP,right at the beginning of a very long journey,just because people aren’t put a minimal effort to begin to learn to play.I play a condition thief,i play VS same amount of BS thieves(and warriors) as everyone else,and to be honest i am much more concerned about other Builds(like demigod Guardians who can carry on 5 people damaging them for minutes w/o losing half of their HP).

Can some1 explain me why ppls think thief is op cause I rly don’t get it.
1. My memser kill them easy trolling around with clones no matter what build he is backstabber or pistol whisp or pistols or what ever (lot of tou)
2. My bunker engi laugh a lot too even if 2 thiefs jump on me reflect kill them when I do nothing just tank (lot of tou and hp)
3. My guardian loling around too cause they can’t do NOTHING to him, guardian just over heal their dmg (lot of tou and healing)
4. My necro conditioner/tank just make on them 10 bleeds and they mostly gone with doing nothing (lot of tou hp and condi dmg)
5. Warrior half bunker with shouts loling around too cause heal > thier dmg (lot of tou healing and hp and condi dmg)
6. As plaing as thief there is no way to kill any bunker in 1v1 while you get owned badly tell me more thiefs is op when there is immortal bunkers in 1v3 in game
7. Only class that got right to use berserker is thief, rest of you change your builds a bit and you will get profit, cause if you play glass cannon other glass canon kill you easy, don’t QQ if you got 0 def and hp you get owned by 1 combo from thief cause my heros got lot of tou and hp and can can even 3 thief when jump on me easy
thief glass canon > any other glass canon in game

A warrior is in the same situation if he used Shake It Off, which has a 20-second cooldown at least, and which removes one or two conditions, depending on whether he has Soldier runes. So you can just use Infiltrators Arrow and cripples, and if he’s got poison or bleed on him, he can’t even get out of that. So catching them is easy, granted you have at least some initiative. If you wasted it all, you didn’t leave room for yourself to escape and that is bad too. Now, a thief that needs to get out.. stealth. Done!

My rotation is nonsense? It works on pretty much everything for me, and if it doesn’t, I did something stupid such as attacking a Mist Form or Endure Pain. I get into stealth using a stealth skill, of course, such as using my heal. If I can get them in one go, it’s just a stealth button to me. I always leave Shadow Refuge for OH-kitten-THEY-DIDNT-DIE situations, and of course, endurance to dodge the pushes out of the refuge. Sure, the classes may be balanced more in the future, and I really hope they are, but that does not take away the current state of the game.
The fact remains, thieves (and as commented, the demigod guardian) can excel while played by mediocre players such as myself.

His argument is 100% valid, but it is not something ppl want to hear in thief forum. I have full zerker thief 0/30/30/10/0 and i can easily take down ppl in wvw in 3 hits, longer if more skilled and geared. Only thing which i fear is D/D well played elementalist or well layed shatter mesmer. Very good healing comming from stealth, removal condition comming from stealth, repeated backstab combo every 5 sec? As i also own warrior i can tell you that warrior is rubbish in wvw vs decent thief.
On the other hand thief is very boring class to play and is severely lacing in PvE world mainly in dungeons where warror can shine with proper build. Also leveling warrior was like 3 x faster and easier than my thief. All this crying about nerfed thiefs makes me giggle somewhat, there wasn’t anything what i would called nerf for WvW thiefs. Who the hell use dancing dagger for damage anyway?
I switched to D/D ele now and is my primary toon, not exotic yes but hopefuly soon. That class takes enormous skill level to play correctly but compared to thieves it is fun and i woun’t “hopefuly” be called cheap-kitten or noob after i slaughter ppl in WvW as with my thief :/
I personaly thing thiefs deserve the true WvW nerf, and not just this tickling to finaly separate good thieves from bad ones.

For me it is NO proper PvP,just a lame competition of who has more gold for gear and better video card and more RAM (but hey it’s my opinion,what do i know). Thankfully in SPvP/TPvP where as you know armors are normalized things are quite balanced ….

Do you realize you are saying that I’m right? That thief has no initiative after chasing (and opening) and IF he has a stealth left he has to try to stealth and run away? And at that point the warrior has effectively and safely disengaged as he wanted to? And even more if the warrior is watching what hes doing?
Or is it one of those thief “builds” where you backstab for 100k and have bleeds and poisons that last 40 days and nights and can reapply on demand and switch weapons back and forth constantly?

Yup, that’s what i hate on spvp and tpvp that everyone has everything and is skill based only, i prefer compromise of equipment/skill based enviroment which WvW is close. But i agree it as to do alot about HW also:D

No? You’re seeing initiative as a big hurdle to overcome while it really is not. What I’m describing is all on auto-attacking and stealth/backstab with the occasional cloak & dagger. Infiltrators Arrow burns initiative yeah, but that is an example, you can use Shadow Step, Steal or even your trusted sword if you’ve got one for a much lower cost of teleportation. Initiative is not an issue unless you want to 2222222.

Right, coming from a guy who constantly complains about thieves, rerolled a warrior and fails to even make a proper quote, this is amusing.
Holy crap, thief forums really brings out the kitteny players. Look guys, you have these things, there called, uh, abilities that you can use when a thief jumps you. Hell, even on my thief, I sometimes get ganked by another thief and yes, sometimes they get me, but a lot of times they don’t. It’s called being aware, not just standing there spamming your aoe into a crowd, not paying attention to the theif or whoever. Thiefs are a bursty class, that is the way they should be because no matter how I spec or gear, if I leave my kitten hanging out in the breeze for more thatn 2 seconds, I am dead. I think the thing that pisses people off the most is they want to have that burst but you cant see, cus you have other abilities, and more health, and other traits that come in usefull in other ways. Learn to play your class and quit boo hooing, its just sad.
