New Stealth Mechanic - "Stalk"
lol, aoe’s are EVERYWHERE in wvw, you would be revealed like 95% of the time.

Ragnarok players should be familiar with this skill, it could be interesting for stealth mech to change into this, which could reduce the amount of QQ on stealth.
basically “stalk” is a stealth mechanic that leaves a subtle trail of footprints, so you’ll still be able to tell where the thief is, but the thief will only be revealed if hit by an aoe or etc.
Please change the title to “Stealth nerf”, because that’s what you’re suggesting. Also, you’re not the first and you won’t be the last, that should indicate something to you.

The idea could use some tweaking, but it could potentially work. Unlike in other games where there is a passive way to find the rogue archetype, i.e if they pass right in front of you they pop up in stealth, or subtle sounds that tell you if a thief or such is nearby. Because once a thief is stealthed, you will never find him unless you were to put down a stealth trap, which is kind of cheesy.

You could just…swing your weapon.

No, in this game you can swing your weapon without needing target (both melee and ranged), have easy access to AoE, and of course have unlimitted mana to spam it.
The only interesting viable option to stealth would be death shroud mechanism. Activate it and use as long as you have -the power-, breaks on attack or when exhausted.

i approve the stealth nerf !
I actually believe that the current stealth mech fits rangers most or will fit them better.
-It isnt a nerf, but a completely new stealth mechanic.
This is permanent stealth and will only get revealed if hit by aoe, but remember there will be visual cue/s like footprints for an example since we already have that feature on legendary weps, it should be easy to incorporate that to this skill.
-Swinging a weapon isn’t aoe.
-Ragnarok did have aoe spammers too, but it worked. You will see bigplays from stalkers calling the whole guild into emp room. Promotes sneakiness on thief and smart play, not just oh im dying > Bam! stealth skill easy getaway with players getting away unpunish from having complete disregard to positioning and absolutely removing the “risk” factor.

i am proposing that, while in combat, you get the revealed “buff”
Thieves aren’t hard to predict. Play one to 80 and you’ll see.
Only a fool would need this mechanic. And as said above, WvW is AoE Central, I would just spec warrior and be done if that happened. (Or elem)

Once more, play a thief. Its almost a compliment if you get a thief to run away while you have full health. Only the ones that come back 10-20 times think they are leet360noscopemlgbackstab.
Not to mention how mobile we are with sb and shadow step. We don’t need stealth to gtfo…

Actually, this could work, not as a REPLACEMENT to stealth, but as an ALTERNATE to it.
Every class is getting new skills, right? Maybe one of the new skills provides a new form of stealth.
Burglars Signet:
Passive: When not in combat, automatically enter stalking mode. While Stalking, you remain stealthed, but move 25% slower, and will get the revealed debuff for 6 seconds if you take damage.
Active: Gain swiftness 8s. If you’re stealthed/stalking, also gain revealed and quickness for 3 seconds. CT 1/2, CD 75s

While this is a much better suggestion than OP (Since it is actually a different kind of “stealth”, rather than a stealth nerf labeled as a stealth change), this particular skill wouldn’t work well.
Any player capable of AoE (almost everyone) would hit the middle of a point and drop an AoE, effectively neutering this signet completely.

Someone should make a flowchart.
Does the thief have less than 30% health? If no, he sticks around. If yes, proceed.
Do you have less than 30% health? If no, he flees. if yes, he’s sticking around.
Is he sticking around? Dodge after 3 seconds and stand in your AOEs.
Stealth is harmless.
