New Thief Elite Skill Idea
That sounds completely worthless, especially as an elite. I guess it could be fun acting like a puppeteer, but the fact that it does 0 damage, is able to be killed, and loses its very limited usefulness if the thief were to have reveal debuff just means you can’t really do anything at all if you were to use this skill. Plus this sounds more like a mesmer ability… I don’t play thief to play mesmer, I play my mesmer if I want to play mesmer lol.

We don’t need more mobs to clutter screen. Also, you have ambush trap and thieves guild for it.
I would like to have some short-cooldown long leap (not shadowstep) or knockback on my thief, because it would be awesome in jumping puzzles and EotM.
We also need to have some condi removal outside of stealth, so it would be a signet protecting us from these, without need of having runes of lyssa.
For constructive criticism, I’d have to say that this is a less than stellar idea. How long do you propose the elite skill stealths you for? If it’s the traditional 3 seconds heck let’s put it on par with Mass Invis and say 5, then after that short amount of time people would see the real thief appear and can safely ignore the elite since it does no damage. And it would only “attack” when you did anyway so it would be absolutely no threat. Furthermore, it dies once you become revealed is something that makes this sour. If a thief goes in stealth, it’s usually to follow up with an attack. Why don’t I just Cloak and Dagger, Blinding powder, Hide in Shadows, Blackpowder/heartseeker, smokescreen/heartseeker, heck even shadow refuge to open up an attack instead of using an elite skill that puts it on a ridiculously long cooldown for little usefulness to the problem I’m being faced with. Not to mention that those set you up for stealth to do damage, your elite skill, once poeple figure it out, will actually prevent you from doing damage since they know exactly what you’ll be doing. If the clone is running at them, so are you. It’s basically a big warning sign letting them know “Hey get ready to dodge!”
Finally, thieves shouldn’t get clones imo, mesmers get clones and stealth for a reason. Lore-wise, both professions use Deception Magic but even though mesmers can stealth, we can stealth far more in the same amount of time and have even more shadowsteps. Mesmers are also about confusion and mental manipulation whereas thieves are about speed and positioning, but no one cares about lore so I won’t go into that territory.
Overall I don’t think this would be a good idea. It lacks usefulness or rather loses usefulness very quickly, has it’s niche filled already by other utilities and those same utilities have much shorter cooldowns while offering essentially the same thing. You could argue that the clone would help in confusing players to help add new tactics to battle, I could argue that after a time people will already know what’s happening when they see a thief do a cast animation, disappear and then re-appear less than a second later, much shorter than a thief stealth should last. Let alone giving yourself away.

So I was thinking, since Mesmer gets stealth, why shouldn’t thief get a clone…just one!
Call the skill Shadow Dance and make it an elite with a fair CD, 240+.
When you activate the skill you briefly gain stealth and summon a mirror image of yourself. The clone then mirrors the thief’s movements (moving the opposite or mirror image of the way you do) for 30 sec. up to a range of 1600.
Clone does 0 damage and expires after 30 seconds, when killed or when thief gains Revealed debuff.
Would it be OP? ehhh, iono, it’s debatable. But kitten it’d be fun! =)
id put this as a 60 sec cooldown basically buys time…thats it.

daggerstorm is good for zergs yes and on a semi fair cooldown.
thieves guild i think should be 180s cooldown so a thief can atleast use it 2x in 1 SPVP match. i dont care what people say about this…they are weaker than mesmer clones/phants and ranger pets….they only get 1 util each and hit for 108 on the gunner and 220ish on the dagger thief. not alot. its less powerful than supply crate….less powerful than the moa morph…. and many others. people just get annoyed bc the thief scorp wire is more accurate and time better than human scorp wire. which is sad.
BV needs to be redone entirely. it is hands down….and no argument here (unless ur REALLY bad at math) the WORST stun in the entire game across all players at all times.
so id give the thief elites a 6.5 out of 10 having only 1 good elite thats usable however its only usable in large zergs which limits it.
It sounds awful and unnecessary. They could always just delete Thief Traps and make Ambush Trap ground target summon an evil clone that attacks people instead.
I feel something like a mass invis for 3 seconds that cures ALL conditions would be nice. Put it on a 60 or 90 second cool down, and have it effect a 600 radius. It could be called Shadow Purge.

It’s not the same. Clones are the Mesmer’s unique profession mechanic, stealth is a mechanic that all professions can utilize (some only through allies).
Though thieves have much easier access to stealth, it’s not their unique profession mechanic. Stealing is.
Clones of any kind are a mesmer thing. I think us being masters of stealth, we hould get some sort of aoe stealth for groups (like wvw). Sr requires people being in the field and only afffects 5 people.
Id prefer a thief’s dirty alteration of veil
Shadow Curtain- place a wall that grants allies stealth an reveal to enemies.

there is, it’s called Shadow Refuge 60sec cd(48 with trait) 12+ sec stealth. Best troll stealth skill for Backstab.
But as for me, problem with Thief doesn’t lie in special ability skills or elite ones.
D/D – should be the mandatory of any thief, should be hated so much that makes people rage – it doesn’t.
Death Blossom – small evade + 3 stacks of Bleed. Would be great if that bleed at least did cause some sensible damage, or if we did like 6~9 stacks of bleed, it would really hurt – but it doesn’t :|
Dancing Dagger – it gives a cripple debuff for 3 sec, so it’s obvious that we do not spam it, but 4 initiative? At least could hit 2 times harder and animation….if someone have seen or played Neverwinter Online, Trickster has an ability called Blitz – he steps back by 2m and throws 3 daggers forward at angle of ~100(honestly I would put that into gw2)
Cloak and Dagger – I kinda can say, this skill is pretty much useless, unless you’re facing total noobs who act like they have 2 000ms spikes. It’s a hug-range skill, animation is utterly slow, 3 sec of stealth and on top of that costs 6 initiative. If we’ll hug stealth, any decent player will aoe, or roll twice forward or on the sides. It’s such an obvious skill…. Backstab is a big no for it.
So any sensible wepon setup is D/P.
Shadow Shot – blind + pull yourself to target + Unblockable / can’t make something sensible like this for dagger in off hand?
Head Shot – Daze, very short, but can save your butt by disturbing oponents
Black Powder – aoe smoke with Blind effect.
I’m not hating here, or making it look like Thief is weak or bad since I saw many good Thieves but having a normal 2 base skills in D/D which matters…..
If it comes to Elite skills:
Thief has very good Elite skills, where sometimes I wish I could choose more than one
- Dagger Storm / no need to explain
- Thief Guild / funny skill, that brings more chaos to battle
- Avatar of Melandru / Stability for 20sec, OP
- Repear of Grenth / I would prefer some nice boost to damage and crit damage, instead of some poison with chill – no need for chill, we have Heartseeker for that and Steal.

Should really read before posting. I’m well aware of sr, it’s the mechanics that don’t make it reliable for group stealth for havoc squads, and even in small roaming groups your sitting ducks until the house goes away (can’t dodge forever in there, susceptible to knockbacks/fears/launch/etc).
Blinding powder +BPS is good but again, 5 people and a very very small radius of effect.
Mesmer gets mass invis for 10 people in a huge aoe, or veil for unlimited number of people. I’d say they have the better side of group stealth by far. Thief wins pve group stealth due to shorter cooldown and the fact that mob’s can’t target stealthed allies so there is no need to worry about being in such a circle but…. who cares about pve.

A trickery skill :
All people who have you on target lost the target and you can’t be targeted for 5sec
But you are not invulnerable
So its not OP if you are a melee thief, because AA, melee attack and AoE can still hit you
But better if you are a distance thief P/X or bow thief, because you kite enemy so you are not in melee, and all skills shot, ranged attack or jump attack who need a target can’t affect you, you should be only vulnerable to ranged AoE
In PvE don’t know how it woud be work, maybe mobs ignore you like you are in stealth ?

Nothing serious maybe 30% stun/knockdown reduction time. Not immunity by any means. Since we have I think 3 stun breaks and one stability which is a different elite I would love this.

my idea is a shadow “Behind the Shadow”
when you use the elite you will get stealth and away from your enemy but cant use any skills and move, you can take damage while stealth so use it wisely! then a shadow appear with 3 to 5 skills of the shadow you control it for 7s? until killed or swap to your main again.
im not good at english :P
