Hey guys, decided to try out thief and I’m wondering what the lowest amount of crit chance effective for high damage is before fury. I believe generally it is 50% but since its thief, is it something higher cause of the lower hp?

If not using hidden killer trait or PvE I’d shoot for around 50%. In WvW with hidden killer trait (100% crit from stealth) I like going for 30-35% chance with some valkyrie or cavalier pieces for some survivability.

The really issue is finding that balance. When you increase Power for example, your other stats will suffer. Thus when you increase Precision, your other stats will suffer.

Now the question comes down to, which stats you can live without any increase? — meaning leaving it at base value. Because to have a 50% before Fury, you’ll have to sacrifice a lot of points from somewhere else.

From the number of builds I’ve seen myself, the target crit chance with minimal sacrifices is 30%, Fury will bring that to 50% which is enough in most cases.

However, in a team, you can focus on dealing as much damage as you can possibly dish out since you have team mates to watch your back. So depending on where you intend to use your build, the crit chance has to be at least 30%.

how is 2k power with 50% cc (before fury) for damage?

Depends on your needs and your build, really.

All that’s really “necessary” is around 30% on a HK stab build. Power is more important, generally speaking, though.

Running non-stealth/non-stab, you’ll need closer to 50%.

Of course, the higher crit chance you have, the better your DPS, so it’s just about striking a balance where you have enough to survive most situations and kill people at optimal efficiency.
