New Thief, need help with build
You need 30pts Trickery for Condition Damage. You will need 30pts in CS for “dealing decent damage”. You need 30pts in SA for survivability. You need 30pts in Acro to efficiently dodge attacks. And 30pts in DA if you want to use Venom.
Unfortunately, you only get 70pts. :/
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.
Hi Rogue, I hope I can be helpful for you.
a build that uses conditions a bit while still dealing decent damage without it.
Typically this is an either/or scenario, but there are such things as “hybrids”. Generally, however, hybrids are lampooned for not being great enough at anything in particular. That said, you can only really find out for sure by doing it yourself.
I am going to use d/d and s/p for the weapons and my skills
That’s a decent pairing. For condi’s, though, you’re missing out by not having pistol/dagger, since the torment there can be applied more often than skale venom (and frees up a util slot). Also, pistol is a nice ‘hybrid’ main attack, some physical, some condition. For this reason, many players call for it to be better at one or the other, because like I said many players dislike the hybrid approach or philosophy.
my skills while be hide in shadows, smokescreen, needle trap, scale venom and thieves guild.
Take anything anyone says (myself included) with a grain of salt, and find out what works best for you, but my suggestion here would be to drop needle trap for caltrops. There are plenty of other sources for poison, and needle trap doesnt actually affect multiple people unless they happen to trigger the trap in unison.
Smoke screen is great, especially in pve. For pvp/wvw, just make sure you leap combo inside of it for stealth. Many would argue there are better things to put in this slot which accomplish the same thing, but i have seen Smoke screen used to great effect so I dont knock it.
Skale venom is fine, if you went for p/d it would be less required, but still decent. Generally speaking, venoms are on too long of a CD for most people to stomach, and they are easily countered by dodges. For PvE, however, its fine.
If you are doing to pvp any, slotting one more stealth util would be helpful.
On to your real question, what point spread to use?
Well, for your theme of “decent with both condi and physical” I would say 10 into DA is a perfect start. Take mug.
That way, you get a nice heal, a lil damage, and poison applied with each steal.
Next is the hard part. CS is for physical, SA is for stealths (which you lack, for the most part), acro is for avoidance (which you did not mention a desire to have) and trickery is for condi damage and steal reduction. So.. I would say, out of those listed, trickery is a great place for you.
So 10 DA, 30 Trick, only 30 points to go! I personally take 10/0/10/20/30, then again I’m pretty dumb (ask the trolls on this forum!). I could see you doing something like 10/30/0/0/30 for pve, or 10/15/0/15/30.
The most acceptable answer to your question, by the community at large, might be 10/30/30/0/0, and just slot condi gear, or 0/30/30/10/0 with the same. But in that case, they’d want you to reslot your utils. As it stands, you don’t have enough stealth to go very far into SA, but it’s widely held that SA and CS are our best lines.
