According to some random pastebin ( cause random info found on pastebin is most reliable source of information ever) thief is going to get a new elite skill, and in every thief favourite category: trap. YAY!

Repel Trap (Trap)
Set a trap that launches foes away when triggered.

After thinking for a while of all possibilites to use this awesome skill, i think i found the most awesome one: I could pop my lyssa runes with it! Doesn’t it make thief too strong this time?

Okay, but seriously, our traps are so bad because usually random things walk into them instead of actual players. To make them even worse, they can be dodged. With exception of shadow and ambush, they need redesign.

It would be totally useless anyway. An elite skill should represent it’s owning class in a unique way, an invisible trap with a hilariously weak effect most other classes have a simple weapon skill, is not worth to be an elite skill. Not to mention that most of the forum users think only in PvP / WvW dimensions (even those who don’t come up with a “NERF THEM TO DEATH! Already there? Even more then!” thread daily). A simple knockdown is useless in PvE as an elite skill even more worthless than the new venom healing skill.

Id actually try to use such an elite in Eotm, but its cd would probably be really long for some reason to make it not worth it.

Not to mention that traps are easily dodged if you’re paying attention to the opponent’s animations and know the radius. Being on a long CD would just add insult to injury, and I would rather slot Tripwire which has a 3s knockdown and 5s of crippled, along with a 24s CD when traited (10pt adept).

I can’t imagine an elite having a 24s CD, and it would need an added secondary effect to make it worth taking over the 1.5s stun of BV.

That’s what I thought as well, but in all honesty, if the new trap launched the opponent a significant distance (900, more than guardian banish) and had AoE potential I could start to see it being relatively useful, especially if it had a ~60s CD that would be traited down to kitten with Quick Traps.

First thing i looked when i saw those leaks was if the thief elite was a trap in order to see if i could trust them or not.

a trap used for …..defense? launch foes away…. sounds bad.. BUT if u imagine how u can use it:

1. laying trap , step forward/around your current enemy launching incoming foes behind your start position away – with a CD of max 45 sec – nice.

2. cliffside – ok^^

i also want to mention that the trap will be blockable – ok one foe will evade and trigger but other foes will be launched away, in my opinion..

@warrior: who can remember which nekro elite skill from gw1 warrior will get?^^ in addition with a second (normal) skill from gw1

wont work next to a cliff bc u would have to be between cliff and trap andits usually the other way around.

to evryone: this is another joke of a useless trap. will be a small rectangle and affect 1 person.

I expect there would be long cooldown, powerful skills within the kit, but you can switch to the kit any time you like.

a ae/cc trap …. << hmmm . on 30 sec cd… maybe … hmmmm << …. better then a single venom stun …. hmmmmmmmmmmmmm…. XD … could be srsly funny

I see also a good counterplay against shadow refuge of stealth thiefs … hehehehehehe

I still can’t see anyone ever use it except in one of two places:
— skyhammer
—trolling in eotm

In every other situation, one of the existing elites would be better.

I still think thieves need a signet elite.

Actually there is an Asura you meet in the personal story (the Asura story and later on you meet her in Orr again) that fights like that in Orr.

I’m pretty skeptical about this “leak”…but it seems like just about every time in the past when we get leaked patch notes, they turn out to be legit.

I actually don’t mind having an elite trap, but if they want to fix traps, they need to improve the current traps instead of just trying to tack on another.

This is why adding a venom heal didn’t fix venoms. In the end, you still sacrifice too much dps to make a venom build really viable in PvE and you lose the condi/stun breaks that you need in PvP when you fill your bar with venoms.

I’m all for venoms and traps being made viable…but I hope they balance devs realize that this can’t be achieved by simply tacking on another skill.
