Hello,

I’m a few hours away from hitting level 80 on my first character (Thief).
I’ve been leveling through completing maps & havent done things such as as crafting ect.

Now that I’m about to hit level 80 I have a few questions:

Quick note: I’m mainly looking to do open world PVE & solo WvW

1) Berserker or other-stats gear?

2) What sigils/runes should I use?

3) How do I obtain ascended weapons & armour (the easiest)?

4) How do I unlock Daredevil & gliding? (I’ve purchases HoT)

5) Anything else important I should know/aim for?

Reroll asap do urself a favor

you will have to get into crafting to get your ascended armor and weapons. Leatherworker/weaponsmith the best start and take to the max.

Sigils and runes depends on your build and your style. You can not go wrong with Pack runes and they pretty popular all around with a combination of utility and raw power and precision. There are quite a few viable choices. Sigils fire/air is always popular. I myself prefer draining for wvw with interrupts on one build and absorption on another as I am a fan of interrupts and the control they offer.

I tend to always use a stacking rune in the off weapon. Another very good choice is energy for more dodges.

Again it a hard call without knowing your style of play and whether you condition/power and what weapons you use.

WvW I suggest you get some toughness and/or vitality in your build. Valkyrie always a good bet. It a different kettle of fish then open world PvE and you can go down pretty quick. Once you get a feel as to how comfortable fighting you are you can scale the defensive armor back a bit.

Dare devil is too good to pass up and most builds integrate that traitline into the build. The fastest way to get it is to get every hero point you can in HOT. There a list of which can be soloed and for the others you can hang around the point in question and wait for others to show up and help. I am pretty used to the sequence so can get all I need to full spec a DD build in less than an evenings playtime. You have to have all your other traitlines fully unlocked before you can unlock DD.

Gliding is pretty straightforward. When in HOT area check your masteries and click the gliding line. You will earn experience against that line and once the bar fills you can buy the next tier of gliding using mastery points. Mastery points are much like hero points. They are found scattered across the maps and or can be earned doing various tasks. You can see that under masteries down the left hand side of your HERO panel.

Not going to reroll having a blast playing as a thief. :-)

Yeh I dont fully understand the ascended crafting system yet,
… well in fact the whole crafting system… but oh well Guess i’ll figure that out along the way.

I guess i’m going for a power/crit build so I was thinking in buying full berserker’s but you might be right to invest in some toughness/vitality aswell.

& yeh figured out how to unluck DD aswell, (i’m so glad I did full map completions to lvl) having plenty of skill points ^^

I agree for open world pve and wvw full zerker is suboptimal. Marauder or some valkyrie should be fine. Zerker is really more used for fractals or raids.

I would recommend you to kill tequatl the sunless for the first weeks or months, its not only good loot and a good way to learn some aspects of the game, but also one of the easiest ways to aquire a first ascended weapon (with some luck), they are usually rather expensive.
Besides that the best way to get ascended equipment kinda requires you to have ascended equipment first.(T3 fractal dailies)
Dont worry about the crafting. Just use a guide to level a crafting profession, and usually you will start to understand it on the way.

PvE? Sure!

WvW? You ’ll get one-shotted. Better go for Marauder!

Air, Fire, Force Sigils
Scholar Runes: You are usually starting a fight with a burst, so also for PvP/WvW scholar maximizes your damage

Learn weaponsmith and huntsman for your ascended weapons. Ascended armor is a loooong way to go then.

Just enjoy the game and if you find some random ascended armor or weapon, DONT! throw it away. You can change the stats for little money in the mystic forge. So theoretically it is possible to get your gear without any crafting.

Just enter the HoT maps and play.

5) Anything else important I should know/aim for?

Thief is a very demanding profession – for you, for your team and for your opponents. People will hate you for several reasons. :-)
