New player, have weapon question
Sword/Pistol with shortbow is good for levelling in my opinion
when I was levelling I used signet of maloce with caltrops and s/p when facing large mobs
you can also use sb skills 4 and 2 to spam area weakness on enemies

Shoulda rolled a sylvari thief! So many people would’ve been like, “Man, this guy’s pretty cool. I wanna give him free stuff”. /serious <on>
Basically just stick with S/P and SB. Both have good utility and AoE damage. Gl with leveling!
The value of caltrops to level can not be overstated. It one of your utility skills and one you should budget for early. Drop them at your feet and watch your damage shoot up as the critters come to you.
Thank you everyone for the advice! I am enjoying the journey so far!
I am currently levelling a char thief (almost hit 40), and I currently run S/P + D/P
SB’s AA seemed to get me into more problems than 4+2 got me out of…
D/D and P/P have their place as well, depending on the area.
I personally do not like P/D. P/D’s 3 attack is kinda counter-intuitive for a ranged main-hand (I think D/P and P/D’s combo attacks should be switched).

I don’t find it counter-intuitive.
P/D is a set meant to fight at range. Shadow Strike helps you maintain distance from an enemy that closed in on you. D/P is a set meant to fight close-up. Shadow Shot gets you into range.
Why would a main Pistol user want to keep getting close to a target? Why would a set without a ranged damage ability want to create space?
Your best friend leveling up is Ambush and Acrobatics 10 – Master Trapper. It will make all fights ez breezy.
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.
I leveled up using S/P against mobs my level, and D/D when against mobs higher than me. Caltrops skill, caltrops on dodge, and death blossom melted everything and it was pretty much risk-free. Lots of bleeds and cripple. Stack them up while evading, then walk away while they limp after you, dying before cripple wears off. Stealth when needed too, in case you’re caught and need some breathing room.
