New to DD and HoT, need urgent help!
D/D sucks in PvE, sPvP and WvW. For PvE, switch to Staff, S/P or P/P.
I personally like S/P since it hits like a truck and evades the entire time it is damaging. However Vault from Staff is a PvE mob buster. As far as a complete set, I really like Staff and P/P together.

By DD I meant Daredevil hehehe, I use Staff/SB for PVE. I can’t properly land my vault survive, because usually by the time I leap 4 devils already stomped my corpse.

D/D sucks in some PvE content but right now D/D power is one of the Meta Thief builds for raids and for Fractals it has very high single target DPS.

that should help you.
If you’re using the build that Kingsdavid linked and are still struggling with survival, you could change the Heal to Channeled Vigor and use Invigorating Precision in the Critical Strikes trailine instead.
Staff and Sword/Pistol are both solid sets to help in survival while provididing the (cleaving) damage that you’ll need.
That build leaves a lot to be desired as far as survival goes. If you want to improve your solo survival, swap out shortbow for pistols, drop deadly arts for acrobatics, exchange no quarter for invigorating precision, and bounding dodger for unhindered combat. If that isn’t enough, swap in some marauder gear as well.
Utilities in that build are solid for solo open world work, but I would swap the heal for channeled vigor and put bandit’s defense in the empty slot. With a passive stun break from acrobatics and a short cooldown stunbreak you’ll have two get-out-of-jail-free cards if you want to go aggressive. And stacking invigorating precision with heals-per-initiative in acro means you gain a ton of health when you go on offense.
If solo survival is your goal, I think these changes will produce much better results.
This build is kind of an easy cop out build, it will get you though all the heart of thorns solo. Every time you kill a foe you’re endurance is fully recharged so you can just dodge and kill everything.
I use Carrion equipment, but you can go anything with condition damage if you want (Viper’s, dire, carrion, Apothecary, Rabid, Sinister)
All the dodge!
Invigorating Precision will solve your problem.
