Check out that thread, it discusses almost all the thief builds out there in all formats.
Disappointed you will be. There is no permastealth on the thief like the Shadow, or rogues in WoW.
Yes, this is nothing like swtor stealth. Thief has a few seconds of stealth; I barely even use it. Mobility is a much bigger factor for me, the thief is an extremely active class. You’ll be dodging and evading always. Fail to do that and you’ll die very fast and very often.
Very fun play style for me, but I personally don’t even think of it as a stealth class but a sort of duelist. So, just do not expect to prowl about in stealth.
Come to Isle of Janthir and I will teach u everything about the theif regards Shikamaru X

Thieves have a few abilities that get significantly better with traits and stealth is one of them. You don’t have any traits when you start the game. I’d suggest learning about a few other core abilities first, such as blinding and the weapon skills. As you go up levels you can change your traits to explore stealth options such as blinding enemies by going into stealth from using a dagger attack skill.
lol Sovn – I played a Smuggler in SWTOR and thieves in GW2 are nothing like that – none of this wandering around in yer stealth pyjamas doing the shopping right under everybodies nose. Its a hip de hop a hippity hop business, much faster and more about mobility and shadow stepping for me. Stealth in my play style is more defensive/evasive/situational. Gw2 is much faster imo. Mind you HUTTBALL! Gw2 could almost have something like that. The only thing I miss about that game.
