New to thief
hello,
For levelling :
First, choose weapon you like
Also, take a short bow, ranged aoe weapon is priceless during event !
Dager/dager if you like to stealth
Sword / pistol if you like to tank
I liked to use weakness on poison from deadly art
Trickery is good, more initiative, steal is buffed
In pve, you don’t really need Shadow art and acrobatics, according to me !
I tend to prefer Deadly art over Critical strike.
Sword/Pistol is the best option for open world pve IMO, with Short bow as your secondary weapon.
For heal you want to use signet of malice, which heal you a lot with skill nr 3 on S/P. For utilities I’d use shadow step, signet of shadows (can be switched out for anything) and haste.
Take either Thieves Guild or Dagger Storm for elite.
Traits:
Deadly arts: 2-2-1
Critical Strikes: 1-2-3
Third trait could be anything. Pick Shadow Arts or Acrobatics if you feel squishy or trickery for some more DPS and a stronger steal.
Good luck!

Now days I just roll a D/D venom spread condition focused build in general PvE for the heals, might and DPS I add to anyone else around but I pretty much rolled a D/D Death Blossom spam and caltrops build from release while I was leveling and it’s a good place for new players to start imo as your pretty much dealing with grouped trash mobs 24/7 and stealth DPS builds tend to be overkill and too single-target focused for that.
It’s really dependant on what weapon set and play style you enjoy more as in all honesty anything works in 99% of general open world PvE so you might as well experiment and just go with what you personally find fun to use.
Best of luck and feel free to hit me up in-game.

Does do you mean by “2-2-1” and “1-2-3” exactly?

He’s referring to which trait positions you should take for each tier. I think 1 is the top line, so 2 is the middle and 3 is the bottom. So 2-2-1 means adept 2, master 2, gm 1.
