Hey everyone. New player here. I am thinking of making a Thief, and I know the “common” choice would be to go with a smaller in size character like a Asura, but I was wondering if it really makes that big (no pun intended) of a difference on the battlefield? Being “bigger”?

Also, are the racials really that important? If so, would the Norn racial abilities serve me well in PvP?

Racials do not matter at all in sPvP since you cannot use them there, not sure about WvW though. As far as Norn vs Asura, the Asura draws far less attention, but against good players it won’t matter since they will just make a target on you.

I’m a fan of the Charr racials, personally, but you’re probably not going to use them that often regardless of race.

Asura or human is the best imo, but it shouldn’t really matter, not with that giant red invader tag over your name. It’s just low profile. People tend to go after the bigger targets because they tend to seem “slower” and pose a bigger “threat”.

Just my personal experience. Shouldn’t really matter though, but I rarely see norns. It might work in your favor and some people make think you’re a warrior and will probably expect fighting a warrior since most of them are big guys…

Go with race you like the most. There is no difference how big or small your character is when fighting vs good players, as said above

Pick whatever you like, small human would be the choice that “makes most sense”. Asura can give you a small advantage, cause enemies might give you less attention, however, I tend to go after Asura enemies in WvW because there’s a good chance they’re glass canon thieves.

I picked a charr thief myself.

asura is in an advantage situation, if you are going to be a defensive thief, 5 secs of confusion and retaliation till be a plus for you. WvWvW setting of course

I play a Norn thief, granted it’st he shortest Norn possible. This was mostly due to the fact that I like the female Norn figure more than any other race. From a purely Min/Max standpoint, Sylvari have to take the cake for their racials…….

The only real issue beside being an easier target for other players to pick up is Flanking Strike not making it all the way around the back on bigger models that’s about it.

I went Norn thief (and made him small as possible – he is only about a head taller than most humans) because…. Norn Beard Domination!
