So I got an itch to find a successful p/p build yesterday and I think I’ve found one! I roamed silverwastes for a few hours and found myself wiping mobs out fairly quickly, meanwhile being able to take a hit (or a few) when I had to. Plus! I had a lot of fun doing so.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vZAQNAqaVl8MhenYxTwwJw/EH/E1eMDg/zPETxT0PrV4GA-TByAABHt/oETG9IA8ACSTJYWKPC4EIcp6PQYiJAACgje0je0je025OPaGtUAgtAA-e

Let me know what you think!

I also tried a few different variants with success:

Withdraw vs. SoM – More condi clear/evade vs. frequent/steady healing.

Bountiful Theft vs. Trickster – depending on the types of enemies / amount of friends/teammates and your ability to clear conditions.

No problem. Also it looks pretty interesting. I like the fact that the target can have almost perma cripple and you got some decent survivability. I’ll probably give it a shot in PvP just for fun though may not do so well. We’ll see.

I’ve never tried it in sPvP. Did fairly well in WvW (of course, this was behind the cover of my tanky warrior friend) and silverwastes/dry top/random events

The more I play my various thief versions in wvw the more I come to the conclusion that in the current state , toughness does little for the thief. The plethora of conditions make the toughness moot and the extra protection offered against raw damage I found better addressed with more damage output and inherent vitality.

As such in your build I might consider going all valkyrie armor rather then soldiers so as to get more ferocity which in turn will trigger a bigger heal from the IP. While rage an excellent choice Wyrm would also work good here for even more vitality.

That said P/P power does work best in the company of others so they can take the focus off you and allow you those unloads.

While I totally agree with you, I’ve noticed the toughness has proven useful against mobs that just hit you. The acrobatics and trickster trait help mitigate the conditions that I can’t outheal. I haven’t done all the math (nor do i plan to!) on rage vs. wurm runes, however, due to the readily available access to fury in this build, I wanted to capitalize on it (+5% damage with fury active, more fury uptime), however, I was in a hard spot with taking No Quarter vs. Invigorating Precision anyways. I think I’m gonna try out Valk gear in the near future to find out. I really don’t wanna keep changing my ascended armor and/or making exotic gear lol!

Anybody that runs P/P in PvP, my hat is off to you. When I play my necro and I see a P/P thief, I’m immediately chasing after you lol.

I’ve use this build for PvP for the last 2 weeks and i’m having fun!
I sometimes get racked by condies or retaliation, also you need to be careful with reflection, if you manage that, it’s a win!

I’ve been using this p/p in WvW quite a bit since the patch: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vZAQNAqaVlsMh2mYZTwvJw+EHyEFPHahbwXGHaao3zpIAA-TlyCABAcIEI/ECE++DpovBLlG3o+TiKBp4IEklyspfQAkCAipRA-w

Damage is not that high, but I’ve been having fun with it. Obviously some personal tweaks can be made.

p/p might seem an odd choice compared to p/d, but the use of carrion gear allows me to put out semi-ok direct damage with unload, which also helps proc the on-crit sigils with lower precision. Plus I have an easy ranged interrupt to proc more torment and stop heals or whatnot. BP is useful for the things it’s useful for.

Offhand dagger I don’t think is as necessary because the dagger toss doesn’t add anything, and CnD isn’t really necessary due to all the stealth the build already has. The only thing it really adds is additional torment from the #3, but yeah.

Im actually saving up for carrion insignias to give that a try with my build. I can see that being really effective. Also, the idea of traps never really occurred to me with this build, but that is a good idea!

Ive been using the D/P metabattle but flipped out the SB for P/P I can blast unload 5 times before I run out of Int, its amazing fun.

1. you can rip a necro out of death shroud in seconds
2. good imob helps with d/p combos
3. P/P allows for HEAVY ranged pressure
4. its very effective against squishy targets like eles, mesmers and necros.

I’ve been playing p/p thief as my main since beta, and that’s basically what I trait currently. Works very well and can melt mobs down while having great sustain. Now if only we can get ricochet back….

looks cool on paper but P/p is not a condi weapon set although it has 2 condi abilities, just like D/D. I’ll have to give it a try

Also, on a side note, Trappers Respite should be ticked a bit, the trap should be dropped on the thief’s feet BEFORE the role back instead of the at the end of the animation, it would give us control over were to land the trap, just like caltrops work instead of dropping it somewhere we don’t actually need it.

Also, if the trap should REPLACE itself as we use the healing skill again and the trap was not triggered, instead of maintaining the first trap dropped and not dropping any more traps if the first one isn’t triggered. (a thread about this should be created to don’t you think?)

P/P using trappers runes works very well as a condi build. You have access to all the stealth you need with trappers respite and the traps for those sneak attacks and access to oodles of interrupts for the added torment of pressure strike.

You can really lock a person down with those interrupts each adding on torments.

I find I really did not mind my trap from the heal coming after the roll of withdraw.

UPDATE: So yesterday I tried p/p with Magi gear and I found my heals from SoM healing about 200 per tick. Which is awesome sustain to outheal most conditions, especially if you’re like me and spam the hell out of unload.

P.S: I’m trying “out-of-the-box” gear stats to see if I can find some unknown incredible combo. This Magi one is probably the coolest one so far.

Sinister (or if you can’t afford: Rampager’s) gear would be perfect for that build. Even with no defensive stats you are almost unkillable and with sinister/rampage you would deal much more damage.

Once I started using Shamans with a Condi build to get that healing for the SOM and other sources (venoms assassins rewards) I was toying with the idea of a power set in Magi. It sounds interesting

Its actually an unconventional power build in the sense that it relies on your crits for that burst of damage. My crit chance is 60 before fury (which is up 95% of the time), I actually found that I dont need Invigorating Precision and slotted No Quarter for a noticeable damage increase. It’s really fun, but you wont be topping any charts with it.
