To be called a p/p scrub since october when i made myself a sweet build based on this set + sb.
Nah more seriously i like the dynamics and designs, although i’d really wish they allow us to shoot better than 75° around us without interrupting unload.
Sure isn’t as easily rewarding as 22222222222222222 but once you understand you aren’t a stealth thief you’re going to give them trouble.
I like P/P for its poor utility, low damage and no access to stealth and mobility.

as i said weplay games to have fun right ?
if running about with P/P is enjoyable then thats all that really matters.
and besides a P/P thief that nows how to use the aoe targeted stealth is really handy for stealthing downd ppl and ressers. its just a point of view i guess.
then again us till think damage is all that matters, not the fact u can do an entire fight as ranged with no melee and not die like msot melee zerker thiefs do every 5 seconds which is a utility in its self as u dont cause ppl to spend time ressing u and not “dpsing” hehe

I like its access to Vulnerability and Daze conditions. Although it would be better for support if the conditions would last more than 5 seconds. Maybe one of these days I’ll try making a p/p build that is loaded with Vulnerability augmentation.

I use P/P in PVE more than anywhere else. Against world bosses where conditions are nigh useless, what I’ll do is make some changes to my traits that allow me to have a ton of initiative regeneration, and then I can spam Unload for the entirety of the fight. It has pretty good DPS, too, so I do a lot of damage with it.
If I’m fighting champions who are by themselves with a small number of people, the P/P is pretty good, too. I run a carrion set, so the conditions are pretty good. One of the things I like to do is use Headshot to remove all stacks of defiant, that way should the situation arise another player can use meaningful control against the champ. Sometimes what I’ll also do is, if there is something like a fire field up, I’ll spam Body Shot to confuse, burn, chill, or steal life from the enemy.
Best defense at point blank is definitely black powder, though. Just pop that and watch as groups of enemies miss. Though that is much better for sword/pistol, since the sword cleaves.
My set-up in sPvP is D/D and P/P. Generally I pew-pew at someone until I decide I’m in range (or they got in range of me) for the super crit Cloak and Dagger/Backstab/Heartseeker combo, or I use them to help in fights where my help is needed but me going in face-first is just going to get me killed.
Yeah, I suppose the short-bow does that as well, and probably better, I’ve yet to try it. But Unload just feels nice to do and Head Shot can stop an execution in its tracks, I’ve saved many a teammate that way

I don’t play it, but Antonio Banderas in Desperado and Chow Yun Fat in Hard Boiled. Coolness and sweetness.

I’m using S/D + P/P mainly because I hate SB outside WvW and there’s no other ranged weapon, so I’m using P/P by default.
If we ever get another ranged weapon coughriflecough, I’d change it in a heart beat.

P/P is terrible. Even as a 30/30/0/0/10, it does crap damage.
The damage itself isn’t bad with that build, but the damage is slow and easy to dodge/mitigate. With a build like that using p/p you can’t get away from anyone. You will just die.

I’m not sure I understood you correctly.
Are you saying that you use shortbow only in wvw or only in spvp?
Shortbow is actually way more effective in spvp than it is in wvw due to all the objects you can teleport onto an through in spvp.
Headshot, Unload and Black Powder are all nice abilities that could just use some massaging … but mostly I like it because it looks really danged cool. Also, a bow just makes no sense for my character, rp wise, so I refuse ta use one. (and when I swapped a skin to turn my bow into a slingshot I was still bored with it)

This is why shortbow is amazing in spvp and not as useful in wvw.
You can use shortbow to get to places you can’t normally walk to in spvp. You can’t do that as often in wvw, although certainly possible, but not applicable as much as it is in spvp.
In battle of kylo if you use shadowstep or infiltrators arrow in the correct place you can teleport inside the clock tower from the ground outside…
So you are about to get zerged by like the entire team, just port inside to avoid them all together. I’m sure you can use your imagination from there on.
All maps have spots like this. My favorite is Forest of Niflhel. If you are on the stairs in a certain spot you can teleport to top of the gate that can only be reached normally by running up the path where chieftan or svanir are, but thieves can just port up.
I have avoided certain death from porting up there a bunch of times.
EDIT: If you are using shortbow to shoot people in the ledges of keeps/towers in wvw, you are not a true thief. Also, it is quicker to spam heartseeker while having swiftness or fleet shadow than it is to use infiltrators arrow to travel.

I admit that many thieves are very good at using shortbow, I’ve seen it first hand.
I carry weapons that I believe to have value in certain situations and shortbow is the only weapon we have available that has the longest range, thus I value it in WvW.
And no, I don’t “shoot people in the ledges of keeps/towers” because that’s just a waste of time. I take out siege engines (except golems), I use my shortbow to get to the siege engine while in stealth and use my mini-100 blades against it. That’s one of the ways in defending the walls.

Why would that make you “not a true thief”?
Cluster Bomb, scorpion Wire, Devourer Venom are some of the best skills available for defending gates. Cluster bomb is one of the only AoE’s in the game that can still bypass the 5 target limit, you can fire it from further back on the wall than the attackers can AoE, and it hits like a truck. You can pull in and then immobilize ranged attackers who are laying down AoE on the walls, opening the area for more of your teammates to fire down at the gates.
I suppose you think it’s more beneficial to your server to roam and take out solo people who aren’t even attacking your points?

I use P/P as #3 spam is your only way to reach mediocre DPS outside of 130 range (as SB Cluster Bomb stops being DPS at range as it changes to a lame 3 second lob), thus making it your boss weapon as half the bosses in the game have constant aoe kittens if you get near them. Though once you run out of initiative, you become the worst ranged DPS in the game.
I used to use P/P because I thought it was cool. And then after I left early game and found myself NEVER using them except on a champion as they just slowed me down on killing things and offered nothing in return for that lost DPS, they have since gathered cobwebs in my inventory to only be pulled out on those anti-melee bosses.
I want them to be awesome, as it is awesome to run around with dual pistols. In fact, I feel that thief P/P should be the most damaging ranged combo in the game – you are giving up stealth and mobility on a minimum HP, meh armor, no survival buff, meh heal character. A kill or be killed cannon should be given in return. They’ve talked of giving it some mobility, but the thief already has many good mobility options, so I’d rather this be the bullet hose that has people wanting my thief in dungeons or CTRL + Clicking my char in a hurry in PvP as they know I’m an easy kill that can also kill them easily.
