I’m looking for a good thief build to give to a friend without HoT so we can do ranked without getting trashed. Metabattle didn’t have any.

Something like this should work for ya. It’s basically the metabattle D/P Daredevil build, but with the CS line instead of DD and with Basilisk Venom instead of Impact Strike:

You should still have some flexibility with utility skills and runes/sigils if you want though.

While you do lose out on some of the dodge utility, there are some benefits that keep this competitive:

• Better condi clear against damaging condis
• Stealth on revive
• Longer stealth
• Damage reduction in stealth

Also, since they buffed Basilisk Venom, it’s more competitive with Impact Strike and works well against Dragonhunters and Scrappers since they have so many blocks.

I played old fashioned DA/SA/TR (http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vZAQNAoaVl0MhKnYpTw7Jw/EHwEkOBBY3+0cm2w7RM2BA-TZBFABiXGotDBAS7PAwDAQgzAAA) dp build with scrapper runes (can take any other common runes, scholar and co.) till end of ruby. The amount of revs in higher divisions forced me into daredevil, the brick wall of imbalance is too great.

Does your friend want to play thief exclusively? Staff ele and fearmancer are pretty good even w/o HoT.

Yeah, he’s pretty into thieves, but he’s rather opinionated and feels necros are OP. I’ve told him to maybe loosen up a bit. =P

(Necros are op) But not op in a way like eles or scrappers. And as a thief you are one of the professions that actually can fight necros pretty well. Dont even wanna now, how you want to pull it of without UC and EA tho.
