We don’t even know the exact full patchnotes coming out. All we’ve seen is a base review and some of these things will probably be tweaked and changed.
Mesmers are singing the doom of their beloved Chronotank and crying they’re now defenceless against Thieves.
We’ve not even been buffed yet and people are already crying out for our nerf.
It’s like people forget Basi Venom has a f’ing cast time of ONE SECOND, can be interrupted and all you need to do is blind us or dodge roll.
It’s a counterable mechanic.
People have been using Signet of Might + Gun Flame (with Quickness) since HoT dropped and I don’t see any complaints about that.
The only OP thing is you can share it with allies – but you have to sacrifice one of the best traits a Thief can get, which is Shadow Rejuvenation.
Thief finally gets some okay/decent buffs and now we’re magically OP.
Yes, and every other class is the NEXT THIEF – cause they clearly don’t know a thing about thieves. But well, I said anet shouldn’t have left the meta alone for as long as they did – people really got used to being brainless.
I really hope not all those people who complained about thief and switched classes come back now… Wouldnt like matches full of thieves at all.

The biggest complaints seem over Basilisk venom and it like there has never been an unblockable attack before. As thieves we have never had blocks until bandits defense and managed to deal with that fact.
This is why Anet devs should not overly rely on feedback from the players forums as poor players tend to suggest that every time they lose a fight it because the person that killed them plays an OP build.
Now there ARE OP builds trais and skills relative to other skills builds and traits. What is lacking is a purely objective viewpoint as to which those are coming from the playerbase. ( I speak in general terms here as there are exceptions,) For an ANET dev to figure out which complaints are genuine is really not worth the resources it would take.
As such I am not as upset as others are when we do not hear from the DEV an answer to every query nor to I get upset if they do not adopt every player inspired proposal.
All I see in the mesmer forums are the esports chrono bunkers saying how “anet deleted mesmer”. The satisfaction is unreal.
It’s kittening hilarious. People cry in PvP when they see a thief on their team and now with this balance update preview they are getting salty because “THIEF IS GOD MODE” now?
is rly too much to expect good dmg if anything and any class can kill thief in less than sec? Thief hits druids for 2,5k dmg from full critted backstab ARE U SERIOUS? do i even need to tell that bunker druid has insane amount of hp? Auto attack hits 2x for 500 that means if enemy got reta u will get 500 dmg back to u… Almost no defence mechanism, every daredevil dodge sucks, dying more with new elite than scoring points…
Honestly guys I would be a little worried. Thieves were overdo for a good buff but with Mesmer seeming to be shut out, and ele sorta hanging in limbo on its viability….idk. All I’m saying is just be careful, you know from experience how kneejerk ANET can be and backpedal.

I’m glad the buffs are coming and the QQ is pretty funny but I feel the left out the ranged options for thief; in p/p and my favorite which is p/d. A buff to those AA is needed as well.
I’m more scared than anything for dagger getting a 30% buff to its DPH. D/P is already very strong for burst and relies heavily on the AA chain to deal its damage post-backstab, and our DPH on dagger is already pretty strong. What I fear is they’ll nerf skills and traits to compensate for overtuned damage coefficients. Frankly, I would argue with the 30% speed bonus, sword autos need to be toned down around 10%, staff needs better damage distribution, and dagger mainhand needs minimal love with most of the emphasis on buffs in regards to sheer damage bumps being put into offhand dagger.
Where’d they say dagger was getting a 30% dps boost? I thought that was only confirmed for sword.
its on dulfy somewhere, its like a 30% increase on daggers, sword is apparently unchanged but attack frequency increased.
dagger hurts more, sword makes wooshy noises faster.
The tooltips showed in the stream were reverse-calculated and coefficients were around 30% higher than prior. Dagger also offers worse AA DPS than the sword at the moment, so it makes sense they would buff it accordingly for PvE players.
Dagger main hand needed to be ignored. Nothing was wrong with it. Sword needed love, not had too much issues with staff. So I dunno why they buffed dagger dps.

The problem is Anet’s decision to inject more damage into thief, rather than scaling back the damage/sustain of everything else. I understand that by doing this Anet gets away with it with less work to themselves, but buffs like these are what causes even greater power creeps to erupt over time.
Really we’re just being brought into line with some other classes. For reference, warrior’s axe auto runs at 1.38 mult/sec, ele’s lightning dagger auto at 1.32, and necro dagger at 1.33. If all of our sets get buffed by ~30% we’ll be sitting around 1.5 mult/sec which is 8-13% higher than those without access to their large stacks of might or their survivability.

yeah then they realize scrapper left pretty much untouched and reroll engis
We have been doing a pretty good job 2v1 ganking the bunker builds with thieves so now we will just need 1.5v1 to get the job done.
As for Scrappers, that stealth gyro cooldown is HUGE. 20 more seconds without stealth is enough to wreck their kitten s. The 20% hammer recharge also is a nice DPS/mobility decrease.

Well historically yeah a less skilled person can get melted pretty quick thief v thief. Im just saying with thief lower hp and sustainability… quick ganks will probably be more viable this patch and even low skilled guys can kill higher skilled guys with a lucky gank. Throw in the fact that many situations are not 1v1 environment. I’m just wondering how quick the ganking will be thief vs thief. Just thinking about the luck factor. I know myself when I take on two Guards at once this next patch I don’t want a little trouble maker thief stealing my glorious 2v1 from me. Of Course there’s enough damage to go around with the other classes as well.
As long as there is enough time to react to a would be ganker.
IN many games there is a TTK sweet spot where skill matters most depening on the TTK. Sometimes a quick TTK means its a matter of who sees who first and is less skilled and more based on luck.

If you’re succeeding 2v1, blowing cooldowns, dodges, etc. for the 2v1, and someone comes in for a gank and kills you, then you lost fairly.
I don’t know what to tell you other than to react faster and pay attention to the map more if you can’t handle getting jumped as it is.

Who said I needed advice… lol I never had a problem with thieves as a thief ever. I am just Theorizing a potential problem. Not a problem for me mind u but in general. ROFL.

That’s because they’re burning their energy so they won’t have enough energy for jade winds, riposting shadows, or even weapon skills. It’s a good tactic in some situations in moderation, just remember to cancel impossible odds.
Eh, I think a lot of it is just from the mesmer community. The bunk build deserved to get destroyed, but it does seem like mesmers are in a precarious spot to have any other strong build. I’d say that shatter is already about on par with a thief in that it can work well, but it requires a +1/decap mindset and not a 1v1, jump into big teamfight mindset. However, the alacrity/quickness stomp nerfs will hit that build too, so it’s looking like thieves will likely be the better roamer in a meta where roamers will be more useful.
But I agree, the BV buffs are relatively meaningless. IS is still the better elite in the right hands.
The new acro passive trait and BV change are really more of a quality-of-life change for new thieves in that they’ll make it easier to learn playing the class. Passive evade will help people getting used to being squishy and the BV change will help players land strikes when they’re not as adept at watching for blocks.
I could be wrong, but I don’t expect high end play to use either of these.

Agreed. A few nights back a few of us encountered a scrapper who would rotate stealth gyro with the Invulns off elixir in a never ending rotation where it took us forever to bring him down. Even 5 seconds less stealth between rotations would have done him in. 20seconds added cooldown is huge yet in my opinion warranted.
