Permastealth achieved!
Kay… so you wasted all your skills… and… 30 seconds?
https://twitter.com/TalathionEQ2
The only problem with that is if your blast finisher hits an enemy, its bye bye stealth
He said, that he achieved a perma stealth. Where did he wrote, that he is using it for PvP, PvE or anything?
PS: you can actually use it in dungeons to skip trash mobs.
you can perma stealth with high ini regeneration, a shortbow, smoke screen, and a pistol offhand. you can just keep applying it until you’re tired, i’ve tried. spent like 5 minutes stealthing everyone that passed by one of the bridges in lion’s arch without ever going out of stealth.
downside is that it’s extremely loud and hardly stealthy when there are explosions and smoke clouds everywhere while you do it. but i think that after like a minute or two of doing it, you’ll have like 10 seconds of stealth to move around freely. yay, i guess?

tough crowd. Going permastealth might be pretty interesting in some situations.
Chill Cris. Sometimes it’s fun to goofing off.

You have to realize what kind of person the typical thief player is. Thread +1
It might not have practical applications, though if it can skip trash mobs in dungeons that sounds pretty practical to me, but even if not, what’s wrong with experimenting for fun?
So I just witnessed a single thief stealthing for 3 straight minutes while blocking a supply cap with 30+ people on it. And that was just one incident. I’d like to know how they are constantly stealthing, if it’s some stupid bug, and if it’s already been reported.

Thats different and you know it. If you saw the thread with the video, or do more than just troll the Thief forums, you’d be aware of the rendering bug where players don’t show up immediately after leaving stealth. The rendering bug =/= this crappy CB spam stealth build.

What I’m getting at, is that its pointless to post about stuff like this, as all it does it invite more QQer’s like Yoshi here to start more stupid anti-thief kitten. Its nothing special either, just a gimmicky and horrible build that won’t even get you anywhere in dungeons because of how you have to spec to achieve it.
If trash were THAT hard, which isn’t the case, then people would always have a thief like this for nothing more than the stealth. There’s no reason to skip trash even for speed runs, because with a poorly specced thief like this, you’re basically down a player and risk wiping and either having to re-stealth through or clear the trash like you should be doing anyways.

I thought it was pretty obvious that I didn’t know anything about it. I neither “troll” the thief subforums nor saw the thread that you didn’t link to. Personally I don’t care about your precious class, I am however interested in how they are doing it so that I can actually counter it.

That’s highly unlikely, considering the ‘event’ was featured in a video that was not only on the front page of this forum most of today, but is obscure enough on youtube that the only way you would be able to find it is by reading that thread or a similar one in the WvW section. Last I saw, there were several posts in that specific thread talking about the rendering bug and how it gave said thief an advantage.
How about instead of QQing in threads like this, you go read the first 3 pages in the forum and see if the answer to your question is there.
And heres a Link if you’re too lazy to go find it on the second page.

It’s not entirely useless.. A group of us thieves were doing this and getting 30 seconds of stealth stacked then going and ganking groups, retreat, repeat.

That’s pathetic. Also easier achieved by running in as a zerg with real builds that do damage and just killing them. I can see doing that for fun, but not it’s practical in any sense of the word.

It was 5 of us, picking off groups of a zerg, we were highly outnumbered I doubt we coulda just charged in and killed them..
Also, not everyone likes to run with huge mindless herds, some might even call THAT pathetic.

How do you witness someone in stealth? That’s kind of a paradox.
How do you witness someone in stealth? That’s kind of a paradox.
Don’t worry, he’s exaggerating over the rendering bug.
its not a useless build that can only do that -_- it’s my venom share build with deception skills instead of venoms. If you are patient enough you can stack enough stealth to wait out recharges, change skills and traits, and still move a considerable distance in it.
And an added bonus of sitting at 18-20 stacks of might while at it.
Fought one of these ‘perma-stealth’ thieves in WvW earlier. It was annoying, but his damage was a joke.
Finally got him by dropping caltrops all over the place, LDB, and dagger storm.
Nothing to see here.
The perma stealth trick isn’t about doing damage… it is about staying stealthed…
There is a legitimate method to stay stealthed basically forever. And it doesn’t require much more than a dagger offhand and good timing.
Why? Gives needed gear…
Why do you need this gear? To do dungeons… duh.
C&D every time revealed wears off will only allow you to stay stealthed basically forever in the event that you have a target to continue using it on. Culling aside, such a tactic is practically useless since you shouldn’t be stopping capture while stealthed and requiring a target to hit every couple seconds makes it unviable for stealth travel.
You don’t get revealed if you don’t attack from stealth. So.. you know, no re-entry cd at all.

Whether you’re landing after revealed wears off or just letting stealth drop naturally before you re-stealth is irrelevant, the tactic isn’t useful unless combined with broken culling.
Why is the tactic not useful? You will not drop from steal long enough to be targetable… there is usefulness in that.

It doesn’t allow you to do anything you couldn’t do without it, and hinders you from doing quite a bit you could otherwise do.
Stealth makes you slower, it is a weakness that has to be offset by some kind of benefit. If you aren’t getting something out of it, being stealthed for the heck of it is a detriment.
@cris – it’s not a useless build, it’s just a useless way of using a good build. the same build can also make for some amazing signet of malice survivability. i’d know, i use that.

You do, however, get revealed if you use shadow refuge and exit its radius.
Wow, I didn’t realize I was talking to the boy who cried “troll”. Anyway, I got the answer I was looking for, so I’ll leave you to your hugbox.

Listen to Mr. High-and-Mighty over here. Scurry on back into whatever hole you came from, and remember to use your kittening brain next time before asking stupid questions in a forum that doesn’t concern you.

I’ll meet you in the middle here. The build itself has a few advantages when used with the right combination of weapons and utility skills. It goes without saying that the damage output is lower than glass cannon builds, but damage is certainly not all this class is about. For the sake of this thread, it’s being demonstrated as a permanent stealth build which is a horrible misuse of any players time and energy, or as you said, “just a useless way of using a good build.”
I’m not adverse to ‘fun,’ but this is a ridiculous thing to post about considering its stupidity and how easy it is to achieve. Not only that, but it will only lead to more anti-thief advocates kittening and moaning in our forum.

how stupid of me was it to think that everyone will find a use for this
should I rename this topic to “i wasted 10 minutes trying not to come out of stealth and succeeded”?

You just came in at a bad time. Look at the state of the forum, almost all of the threads are people trying to get thieves nerfed. The thief forum is a bit on edge from all of the trolls.
While you may need a somewhat specalized build to do this by yourself it becomes rather trivial if you’ve got another person with a blast finisher they can use on command. 10 points in shadow arts on one thief that brings smoke screen and the deception CD reduceing major and you can stack stealth high enough on 5 people to get to the next smokescreen. another thief with shortbow is ideal for the second man. My alliance has used this to move small forces around undetected. Every so often one or two people notice the explosions but they rarely manage to catch you if your careful. with 2 people spaming blast finishers you can cap out at 25s of stealth by the time the 7s smoke screen runs out. As long as an observer does not stumble into the AOE in the first few seconds your whole squad has time to relocate to another spot well away and they’ll never find you or know how many are around.
As an alternitive you use a second thief with smokescreen and use any old build you wanted, just alternate the thieves droping SS. Offhand pistol works in a pinch for the smoke but its shorter duration and you risk revealed accidents by shooting something with the ranged portion.

Permanent stealth!
However, about as useful as standing in town AFK, except you’re hitting buttons to do it.
I’m not sure ‘stealth’ is the right way to describe this build though, seeing as you’re basically doing a fireworks display around yourself, alerting every enemy in the area where to murder you.

Someone who… enjoys playing games?

Dont be so sure, I’m not sure if the “fireworks” even properly render for enemies or if they are stealthed while you are. I’m prety sure they see the smoke screeen and or the shadow refuge fields as I’v had enemies come over to investigate that but they may also be hearing the explosions. If you do a good job in picking your location to refresh stealth by the time they spot the field and get over to it you are already done and moveing for another 15-20s and you can get well out of their range to see the next stop point as long as they dont manage to guess your direction of travel. That over blown house on shadowrefuge seems to be the bigest attention graber.
