well he does have flanking strikes but I would consider at least one more such as RFI. RFI woks very well in a p/p set.

I always found RFI one of those things that looks good on paper, but the reality is that you almost always end up rolling yourself out of range unless you’re right on top of your target to begin with. Maybe with the reverse direction trick it’s more useful, but I could never master that in actual combat.

And I have never had that problem it just style I guess. I have just embraced that trait since the beginning. Now I DID roll myself out of range but would know when this the case by feel and just run forwards with guns blazing as soon as I got in range.

It part of the feel of the PP build that makes it so fun. Two guns held high, charge toward the enemy yelling banzai and unload dodging the enemies return fire. There were many of those “oops I died” moments but they were fun.

yea you can change the heal to withdraw and use roll for initiative for more tricks. You have a lot of space to be flexible.

Hey there Shammsize here, first of all thanks for the credit appreciate it.
Any questions to my build, feel free, this is kind of an update to the build I have in the video, just some things such as changing my elite to Dagger Storm to give me survivability and an ability to counter ranger’s rapid fire.
The build is actually extremely focused around criting just all the time.
P/P isn’t actually one of my prefered playstyles, easily a viable damage build, it bursts hard and is a ton of fun as reacting to players basically has to be split second decision making otherwise you’re either dead or about to be.

yes everything else is just gravy, the whole thing about this thread is that p/p is not dead its actually stronger.

people need to get out of meta more and be flexible, i got 12 wins in ranked match with it.

Well. I’m streaming this right now and so far so good. I think the best part right now is that people aren’t expecting it. They think I’m just a D/P thief, then they get absolutely mowed down in about 4 seconds. The Fury on Rage runes is good in a teamfight. So far I’m actually kind of digging this.

yep it fun and I had about the same damage overall with pack as with Rage but both are good.

Pack gives a little more utility with that swiftness and more power and precision . Overall the damage between the two is very close.

Now another interesting one is Rune of evasion. You do not get the 5 percent bonus but you can get Fury on demand just by a dodge and then keep it running with NQ. If you are into acro at all this gets you 5 secs swiftness on dodge. the problem is the crippling strike is at the end of a dodge roll. I would not take it myself if not in the acro line.

Rune of the worm might be ok giving much needed vitality. No fury source though but if you have flanking strikes traited and haste in your utility bar you can turn fury on when you need to. This could replace the health we lost with the old PT.

I am not sure how many of these are in PvP.

My question is regarding P/P thief and I’ve been reading all the comments here and I see most of you mention PvP gameplay, etc. I have been off guild wars 2 for a long time (over 1 year) and I loved P/P thief. So I wanna ask if I can use the same build you guys are talking about (in video and here) to play in Pve? Since it’s really the one I mostly play.

I use a P/P build in Pve. I go 6/6/0/0/6 . trait Executioner , Mug , Panic strike ., Ankle shots and NQ….you can sometimes take IP as well if you want a bit of heal. The first trait is really your choice any of the three work.

In trickery I take sleight of hand/Flanking strikes and trickster. the Condi cleanse comes from Trickster and using RFI/Withdraw and haste on my utility bar as tricks.

Acro line in a 0/6/0/6/6 would also work if that your style. less outright damage but more dodges and defenses.

Just stay at range and unload/dodge. Works really great on boss fights but you are fragile and have to make sure you do not get hit. BP can be used in a pinch and of course your AA. in Pve a lot of your other pistol skills do not work to well such as the interrupt off headshot so you wont use that much.

By that I mean, there is no Marauder’s set for PvE/WvW; what are the stat combinations needed to achieve a “Marauder’s” effect outside of sPVP?

Oh listen to yourself. People are allowed to play whatever set they want. PVE is open to just about anything. You sound very much like those people two years back , same boards claiming d/p as trash and no one would ever lose to a d/p build.

All the people asking about P/P paid for the game just like you did. If it works for them and that is what they enjoy and does not work for you than it not their failing.

Most any thief on these boards that have been playing for any length of time has likely tried the meta of d/p. There no requirement to keep playing it. They want to try something else.

Play the set you like. Feel good about yourself if your choice makes you feel “smarter” This is just a game.Have a nice day

Here it is. Even getting targeted in a teamfight I never felt like I was out of control. This build is about 70% positioning. If you aren’t positioning yourself in a fight correctly, you’re going to have a bad time. I had several 2v1’s tonight where it wasn’t just me “pew pewing” largely going ignored as a poster earlier said. It’s quite a bit of fun.

No one is saying that this build will be the thing to do in a tourney. It’s fun, it’s effective and you will mow crap down like whoa. It’s time to think outside of the box in regards to thieves. No one likes a one trick pony.

Unless you’re doing dungeons, you can P/P in PVE all you want. I tried it out in SW a bit tonight just for the heck of it and found it to be a lot of fun. A lot of us have been using the same boring meta’s for so long, a little change is nice.

For Dungeons, the meta has already been set by Nike. So just use that. There’s no need to call people bad for wanting to do something a little different.

There’s no difference in people allowing you to pew-pew in a teamfight as a P/P Thief than there is allowing a Mesmer, Ranger, Engi or Ele doing it. You don’t allow them to pew-pew do you? Nope. You adapt. You hardswitch targets. You prioritize. There’s no difference at all…except this time you have a P/P thief to look out for as well.

Again, when you have 1000s of Thieves all either running S/D or D/P, it’s just as easy to counter that as it would be to counter a P/P. We all saw D/P and S/D last meta all meta. People knew how to counter it…but you still ran it didn’t you? Any build when used a lot can be countered. Every point you’ve made against P/P can be made against every meta build in the game.

The single target burst from a safe distance with this build is devastating. With correct positioning, knowing when to reset and using your interrupt/stun correctly, you’re just as much a threat as any build we saw last meta.

From stealth going into Sneak Attack > Unload > Steal > Unload is just plain murder. Switch to bow to cleave when necessary and move across the map quickly. I went into this build just wanting to troll but after several 2v1 and 3v1’s later, I realized it’s got some power. Adjust your gameplay and get out of the last meta frame of mind and you’ll find you’re pretty effective. I don’t expect Magictoker to be using this build anytime soon, but it’s a lot more fun then getting blasted by AOE in melee range.

I played with it for a couple of hours last night and it was fun to a point.
problem is confusion…. got me killed really fast a few times. As for reflects and retaliation, i can easily deal with them no prob.
