It’s funny how it’s not OP and never really has been in the past year, not in PvE, not in WvW and not in sPvP.

That said, having a stun, lots of damage and an evade all stacked into one ability was always asking for trouble.

Since anet splitted S/D #3 i am thinking: Split = Split. since anet said they split PW i am thinking: Split = Nerf.

PW is now perfect. OP maybe, because it does more dog than other abilities. But if anet want to split PW there will or must be a nerf, except they split into 1ini + 4 ini. But then he second swords strikes are OP. => 100% nerf^^
Other possibilities => also nerf^^

And i love the guys who are always saying “higher initiative costs, higher” ironic

and the easiest way to balance PW is adjusting to the new (latest) patches: higher ini reg => nerf PW’s dmg => pre dps = post dps. Done. But he had to close the “complaining” thread^^maaaaaan

Honestly if they just split it it would be much better. Pre hit PW, IS, PW->IR. youd get way more hits of it in than before.

New possabilities will open, but I think they will split it in a more complicated way.

You know, I’m kind of annoyed that thread was posted in the SPVP forum, and not in the Thief or Profession Balance forums. Moreover, it was only open for a days, and filled with posts from non-thieves. That’s simply not good feedback on which to base any decision.

We should determine the usefull input from SPvP with a calculation.

We have 8 profession active in SPvP. 1 of these professions is Thief.
If we assume that 50% of the other professions also have an alt thief, and that 50% of those players are experienced thief players.

1/7 + (1/4 × 7/8) = 0.36
So roughly 36% has enough experience with PW to point out wether its OP or not.

My math is not very advanced but 36% < 64%, so based on this calculation we might have a chance. But based on the amount of negative feedback on PW, this skill will recieve some kind of nerf sooner or later.

It has potential if the time frame to activate the flurry was appropriate. You can bypass the stun a lot easier than Infiltrator’s strike, and it lasts longer. Tbph I think a split would be a buff if you were capable of maintaining the split skills.

I’ve defended thief on nearly every nerf but I voiced out about that BS skill. At least with FS/LS the evade part is separate from the damage portion. You have to risk taking damage to deal it. S/P is way way way too easy to play and that’s the main reason I hate it. Often the best way to play it is to press 3 repeatedly, not moving around, not dodging, just chaining pw on top of pw… could it be more boring? Hopefully they’ll change the skill into two parts and find a way to make it require some measure of skill to be good with it.

That being said, it’s disgusting that a dev made a thread specifically about PW while ignoring all the other issues with the rest of the professions. How about a bit of unbiased decision making?

this is why people are quitting the game. ANET is a bunch of HACKS. they have no intelligence. i dont mean that to be mean…but come on…. never more than 33% of PW dmg actually hits unless ap layer is dumb enough to stand still. another thing is that there is lag time before and after the skill that leaves the player open to dmg…basically 50% of the skill evades 50% leaves you open to dmg….and having low defense/armor/hp/toughness …you are likely gonna die if its more than 2v2.

thief is a joke in spvp/tpvp and arguably in wvw .

skill 2 is unusable. skill 4 is rarely used (only on heals)…skill 5 is not used bc its 50% of your total init leaving room for 1-2 attacks before you need to run/hide/heal/regain init.

PW kinda sux unless somebody roots/immobs your target or freezes them. i never lose against pw. i kind of prefer it to be honest…playing against it i mean.

the dmg is eh in spvp/tpvp but its gr8 in wvw …but in that sense PW isnt playable in WVW bc of the zerg style gaming. thief in general is no longer viable in any player v player sense…wvw tpvp spvp. you ALWAYS should take another class.

This is it here. Pwhip is too strong when combined with hambow/guardian/etc because they constantly lock targets down for you, plus your spamming interrupts helps them land earthshakers and whatnot in return.

I’m not sure how they plan to redesign the skill. At the very least I imagine it will be split and either slowed down overall or have an initiative increase overall, with the justification that splitting the skill gives you added control over it, increasing its power.

This would certainly prevent spamming but I don’t know if it eliminates the issue of being able to invuln burst somebody in a teamfight. The 2nd half needs shortened or changed in some other way that would keep it useful, maybe a block into counter & evade.

I put this in the main thread that PW is suffering from the nerfing of other skills right now, similar to the decline of S/D. Since thieves work on a global resource, they’ll always use the most effective moves for their initiative. #2 is clunky/cues behind other skills, #4 was indirectly nerfed with the stun/daze change so it’s severely less effective for the initiative, and #5 costs more initiative and doesn’t defend you against ranged attacks. One of the most effective ways to play it now is to keep evade frames up rather than necessarily react to the opponent. Nerfing the utility of PW will probably push players out of the set.

the problem is how effective pw spam is combined with teleports and haste, nerfing other would affect entire thief class so pw probably gonna get changed… which honestly needs to be happen, being basically invulnerable while dishing out high dmg and CC in 1 skill is kind of silly
