PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.
That would be nice but its really not necessary its already pretty decent. More vids of p/p domination otw ;p

The problem with p/anything has a name: “body shot”. It’s a dreadful skill that is never going to generate more damage than straight up using Unload, even with a full party. Why? Vulnerability is such a passive condition to generate for any class – with many 1-attacks passively granting up to ten stacks, and many traits to generate even more on crits or under other conditions. It’s even worse in PvP than in PvE, and it’s even worse for condition builds until vulnerability starts working for conditions as well as direct damage. The duration is also trash – 3 seconds, really?

- 100%
or… - 50% for 1st bounce, then 25% for a second.
This should then cement P/P as a solid ranged option.

Hmm body shot isn’t too shabby after the update to 10 vuln the duration is just a bit low. As far as thief as a whole body shot then Swap to melee as a combo would be a greater reason to take P/P if the duration was kicked up a bit to be more practical.
I think it was a mistake to make Body Shot apply 10 stacks of Vulnerability because in a coordinated spike, that’s a lot of damage in a small amount of time. But the short duration no longer synergize with Unload on solo Thief.

Yeah, Body Shot doesn’t really help the solo gunslinger. I’d rather see it replaced with a short-range cone attack that doesn’t rely on targeting (see: Blunderbuss). Heck, I’d even be happy if it was kept the same as now but if they simply swapped Vulnerability out with Chill or Weakness. Both would contribute far more to my playstyle than what’s currently available.
P/P needs a rework, not a buff. Fighting a P/P thief is obnoxious for a lot of specs but it still isn’t really good.

Everything I say is only in reference to PvE and WvW.

I agree with changing body shot to a short range only push (not knock back, just push with no interrupt and as it would be short range and a push you can’t abuse it with spammability) and I’ve sugested it before too. It would be great to compensate for the lack of movement skills on P/P.
But we can’t have Burning on a weapon skill. Thanks to the initiative system, that has its positives and negatives, and this is one of the negatives, we can’t have burning or long duration CCs on weapon skills as if we spam them, they’re too powerful (a Burning equals to applying 8 bleeds, and if the opponent cleans it, thanks to spammability you can put it on again).
Something I’ve suggested before that would help defining P/P identity (as right now it’s a bad mix of condition damage on auto-attack and direct damage on main source of damage that you use all the time), in adition to changing Body Shot to a short range push:
Make each bullet of the 8 fired by Unload have a 50% chance to apply bleeding, and the other 50% to apply short duration weakness. Reduce the direct damage of each shot based on the potential extra damage from half a bleed per shot.
This way Unload goes in line with the main attack, defining P/P as a condition set, and in adition it adds support to a set that currently lacks any support (as Black Powder is efficent mostly with melee sets) and you can protect a bit yourself and your group in dungeons by applying weakness while attacking.
Both changes would add some way to put a distance between your foe and yourself (and by casting Body Shot while stealing you could help with the problem P/P users have with their profession mechanic making them super vulnerable), make your main damage source synegize with your auto-attack and add some defensive utility to the set.
This way, in my honest opinion, the set would be perfect without being OP. It will be a viable option to use in any kind of content and more fun to play than 333333333 for just decent to mediocre damage with zero team utility.

P/P looks like a weapon set they only kept because it looks awesome. Compared to our other weapon sets it’s not even close in damage. I really hope they will buff it (they mentioned a long time ago that they wanted more mobility in the weapon sets, I’ve yet to see that happen though) but I will never get my hopes up if Anet is going to “fix” it…

Ok so pistol damage is lower than dagger damage but you are attacking from a range of 900. If anyone gets just use black powder and if you are having a range battle with someone p/p does more dmg than most other classes using range. You know unload is super easy to dodge right? and you cant substain unload, you will end up having to use the useless vital shot, and you also got the usekitten dy shot, a bad autoattack and a bad second skill is UNPLAYBLE

You also burn iniative dani. you will have iniative left to maybe 1 unload, which really is easly countered by a block/evade or such skill.

P/p is so terrible because the auto attack is condi and the dual skill is power.
P/p can’t decide if it wants to be condi or power. Crap defenses other than bp. Body shot and auto attack are near useless with p/p. uses way too much init. No stealth. Damage really isn’t that good and easy to dodge/interrupt it.
Since Dual-Wield is exclusive to Thieves, on different weapons, only Skill #3 is dual-wield, but on same weapons, like P/P and D/D, all weapon skills should be dual-wield not just #3.
This way, D/D will be very different from D/x variant, same goes with P/P and P/x variant.
But that’s just me. No way Anet will do that anyway.

i have a feeling that thief is going to get a BIG change. not sure what but i feel it coming

i was thinking this a few months ago b ut figured it was asking way too much. totally agree and would love to see it happen!
The entire problem with P/P is Vital Shot. Vital Shot is fine for P/D because it’s supplemented by the Sneak Attack, but with P/P it is just a poor man’s Unload, which messes up the whole set by skewing your resources. You end up sacrificing too much utility/mobility to get good damage and sacrificing too much damage to get good utility/mobility.
A Vital Shot buff is needed. IMO, the best way to start is to reduce the aftercast by about .1 second so that you can manage a little better DPS without Unload. If this ends up affecting P/D too much, then reduce the efficacy of Stealth Attack by a bit.
