Hi!

I am considering making a thief in the future but I really like the idea of playing a thief using pistols. In the past I have made thieves but i never got farther than about lvl 20 as I found guns just didnt play all that well. Anyway. I would love to make a thief when I can afford the extra character slot BUT only if I can be viable as a p/p thief.

So, are pistols good or just awful?

P/d is a great condi or power set. P/P unfortunately is not. All your initiative goes into spamming unload, since thats the only way you can really do dmg. You can’t stealth with p/p and it does have built in defenses like evades or teleports. Its gott #5 for a blind field, but most if not all your initiative is already going into unload so youll rarely have the initiative to use that.

TL;DR make an HGH dual pistol engi for that gunslinger/cowboy look

dual pistols arent good on thief, atleast in wvw/pvp, and there are things to use in pve, i suggest you pick engi instead. p/p is viable there

P/P is viable, but you have to put in the work to make them so. If you want to play on easy mode, pick something else.

I allready have all the other professions lvled to max, thief is the only one I am lacking and it would be fun to learn to play a new class. As I stated before I have tried to play thief on several occasions, but, as i also mentioned, I picked pistol/pistol so it was VERY difficult to do damage to enemies and having multiple enemies hacking away at my health usually resulted in my death.

Im still going to make a thief once I can afford the character slot(after gearing up my necromancer main) and I would still want to play with pistols, maybe not in both hands, as it doesnt seem very good at the moment, but pistols nonetheless. Maybe with a shortbow as my secondary weapon.

Also, are thieves able to dish out consistent aoe damage(with the right build/weaponset)?

Sw/p is great for leveling, just drop your blind field and use the cleaving auto attack. Mobs can’t touch you and you do awesome dmg.

Have you tried the short bow? The whole thing is AoE!

Depending on your thief, of course.

Doesn’t hit strong, no built in defences, and does little to burst someone down. Unless the enemy is oblivious you aren’t likely to scare them away with pew pew spam. Unfortunatly p/p doesn’t know what it wants on thief. It’s half condi half power, something thief doesn’t pull off real well. Better off trying engi if you like the medium armor look with dual pistols.
