Playing thief vs multiple DPS guardians
This is a highly unfavorable matchup. Avoid this 1v1, but if you have to take it ever Shortbow is important to use here to stay alive.
If Greatsword interrupt the whirl. Dodge the pull. Blind the 3rd auto attack. Don’t stand in the symbol.
If hammer blind skill 2, avoid the immob, shadow step out of the ring.
If scepter focus, swap to shortbow, and strafe the auto attacks. Don’t stand in smite. Cluster bomb the shield. Expect the immob right before they weapon swap back into their main set.
That’s all very basic, but it’s challenging to deal with smite condition and the air fire procs. You can’t compete with the 20k+ healing they’ll have available from meditations and virtues with shelter.
Don’t waste initiative on shelter or renewed focus. The only thing you can try there is to poison field shelter.
As a D/P thief if you win that 1v1 you just flat out played them. It truly is a hard counter, one of the hardest in the game, but you always have the option to run away.
Norn Guardian – Aurora Lustyr (Lv 80)
Mia A Shadows Glow – Human Thief (Lv 80)
Should an entire class be hard countered this hard? I basically can’t do anything and the second they enter a fight I’m taken to 10% hp.
What am I supposed to do against this? I just avoided fights, back capped and stole boss kills(Forests of nifhel).
Completely avoiding PVP in a PVP match isn’t very fun.
Sounds like you did exactly what you should do in such a situation. If there’s a team fight with a meditation guardian and you can’t leave, use shortbow and try to avoid the guardian as much as possible! They blow up pretty fast when focused, so tell your team to do so and then you’re free to kill the others.
It is a hard counter that is very, very hard to win. Just keep your cool and test the guardian. Many people who run medi guard doesn’t know how to play him and you may win, but against a good player you should just go do something else. :p
It’s just kinda insane how HARD of a counter medi DPS guardian is against us. I think hard counters should exist, but this is like banging your head into a wall.
There was three on the enemy team so I basically could not team fight or fight any of the enemies at all, I had to completely ignore PVP in a PVP game which isn’t very fun.

That’s not true. Mediguard is one of the most resilient professions in the game when it comes to focus fire.
I agree with everything Shockwave said, and will also add this:
_use Infiltrator Signet if you get hit (and pulled) by Binding Blade.
_use Infiltrator Arrow if you get ringed and Shadowstep is not ready.
_use Blinding Powder if you get ringed and you can’t swap to shortbow or shadowstep
_use the stolen skill if you get ringed, that’s basically a 100% guaranteed hit and will void the ring
Just don’t go 1v1 them and let the tanks deal with them. Play safe and abuse your mobility with Shortbow: Infiltrator Arrow is a GREAT escape tool, and should not just be used for moving around while out of combat! If you’re being focused, it’s better to Infiltrator Arrow somewhere away instead of wasting 4 initiative on a very situational (and short duration) dodge with SB#3
I usually practice with my guardian friends, why? Cause they’re our hard counter and if I’m able to beat them then wohooow but then again it’s because they make mistakes and are usually dps guards(squishy). The ones that are truly impossible to kill are bunker guards on soldier amulet XD then you’ll have a problem especially in pvp cause non of you will be able to kill one another plus the guard can still cap points cause he doesn’t require stealth to mitigate damage. What I suggest to do if you’re about to face a bunker on a 1v1 match is to either go condi burst or take soldier’s amulet lol no one will be OP then.

Thanks for this, mate! I’ve been struggling to beat Medi guards a lot and this helps a ton! I should really research guardian more so I can better counter them…
I think hard counters should exist, but this is like banging your head into a wall.
WRONG!!!
GW2 is NOT a MOBA. It will never be one.
Hard counters in an MMO PvP is the dumbest thing ever.

They hard counters us on point 1v1 fights. What we have is mobility. We can easily outmaneuver them. By simply avoiding them in team fights and blowing up other professions we can still be viable, even with a medi guard around. They beat us in 1v1 fights, but they are so slow between nodes! We can just leave and go +1 a fight. By the time the guardian show up we have probably won that fight already ^^

Nah dude it’s not always like that, keep in mind that a lot of good guardians use travel runes and they know how to manage their mobility even if we’re fast we’ll only beat them by a few seconds.
Some very good advice in previous posts.
From playing dps guard myself (still a noob), the only trouble are trickery thieves for me, when they time the interrupt well and when they land the stolen ability. Still very difficult match up for the thief.

Landing the stolen ability is the key to beating good mediguards. Still, it’s incredibly difficult to use it due to the insane amount of blocks/blinds of the Mediguard.
