Post Your Build Thread
Hi guys!
I made a fairly short video on my slayer build!
Hope you guys enjoy it!
You could also look into my youtube channel for more builds and guides!
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fYAQNAoaVlUmaPHdy5E+5Ey2jeqC5JtH4ULBTdFiKA-jUyAYsAi7gILBiKAmALiGbZsIasKGM9JRUt3oIa1SBExwI-w I just made this WvW build and I want to know if I can improve anything. I’m going to couple it with guard leech and applied fortitude.
Just some background:
I have played a thief since launch. I have an elementalist, but never play it, as I have crafted a build that Is very effective in pve, and can be useful to cause chaos in wvw.
So this build is pve oriented but I have also found success with it in WvW when zerging and you need to use melee.
It runs 30/20/20/0/0.
The key is to use sword/pistol and signet of malice. When utilizing this build, it is best to have the signet of shadows (speed), one stealth skill, and one venom. With this build you have a chance to proc. haste, which is UNBELIEVABLE with the sword. Also, when using Pistol Whip, you evade all attacks, so it is a semi-heal, as it restores 155 health per hit, while losing none. Furthermore, you have a spammable stun, which is mostly helpful in WvW. Finally, you can pop blindness with your #5 skill. You can hit up to, but not exceeding, 10.5k on the last 1-2 hits of Pistol Whip.
I DO NOT have full ascended equips, but run a full zerker build with Rune of the Eagle, and sigils of force. I have yet to have a total damage output with ascended, and will post a thread when I do.

Hey this is my revaluation to D/D Condition Build , first of all, I’ve seen a build similar but it was for sPvP, using carrion and to hold points so the idea was not mine, I own just this WvW version
This one is for WvW roamers, that like me, dislike the stealth mechanic
It works on perma-evade, you can troll an entire zerg until you use shadowstep, (wrong use of this means death when trolling zergs), it is condition based, so, you will suck against those condition cleaner, BUT, what makes us strong is… that our attack is AoE.
It means you can easily fight outnumbered, for example 1vs3,4,5 without fall below 50% health.
Withdraw
Really nice skill, with a 3/4s evade, removing those condition slowing you, gives back 50% endurance every 15 seconds, give back 4 initiative every 15 seconds.
Spider Venom
- It’s quicker than Caltrops, instacast
- More damage single target
- Even the noob player know caltrops, they will never walk on them
- You have a massive-spam of Caltrops while dodging (=always)
- With 1 Spider Venom you deal 2’000 condition damage.
Shadowstep
I often use it as condition cleaner against heavy condition spammers, BUT, it’s also usefull to:
- Finisher Stomp, you know, the trick
- Shadowstep away after trolling a zerg
- Breakstun, especially against those mace warriors
- Move faster through the map
Agility Signet
This signet is magic with this build, it gives you 3 dodges, and clean a condition.
Thieves Guild
I really recommend this one instead of Venom or Daggerstorm.
They are your best skill against condition cleaner, they will help you a lot against them, taking Venom will not be a solution since this build is based on medium-long fights, it’s not burst and Daggerstorm… We have Death Leap Blossom that can stack 3 Bleeding on targets
On traits:
You will play on a 5/0/5/30/30, the only thing you can choose is the major trait on Trickery, I personally use Bountiful Thief to gain 19,5 second of vigor and rip 2 boons make targets more vulnerable, for example, when you see regeneration stacking on your target, steal is a MUST, to make your job easier and faster, the other traits are synergized with the other skills/dodges
Playing this build you don’t have to just press 3333, because your ini will burst up really fast, you must aim your skills, some tricks:
- Never open a fight with Spider Venom, your steal apply poison
- Before stacking 3 or 6 stack of bleeding, make sure to launch a Dancing Dagger, crippling your enemies will really help you, especially because you have to hit them 3x with your Death Blossom, if you don’t you are wasting initiative
- Before using Shadowstep as condition cleaner, wait until your enemies has finished his condition spamming, you risk to clean nothing (here you must know other classes skills and animations)
- Never swap weapon to take initiative, just do it when you need endurance
- Summoning Thieves while finihing a downed foe while fighting outnumbered will help you a lot, you don’t have stealth ability except CnD
- Keep dodging out of combat too, it will keep you 5-6-7 perma-stacks of might, they means 210 more condition damage
- Instead of using Shadowstep to run away from a big blop, just spam Heartseeker, reserve it for dangerous situations
Pros:
- High survivability solo-ing small groups
- Heavy Condition Damage
- Really dextrous, it can deal with many situations
- Not use of stealth, enemies cannot cry about it
- You will kill enemies as using Stealth
- Good against Champions
Cons:
- Really difficult against condition cleaner
- Condition stacking is poor, we have 3 Condition to apply only, it will make the job easier to conditino cleaner
- Need a bit of computer performance, lag and fps drop will make your life harder
Note that this build is really good in PvE too, especially soloing Champions.
If you want to play it in PvP, just go for same traits,runes, PvP Carrion Amulet and Caltrops instead of Spider Venom, your role will be Holder,

So here is my idea to a dps build…..any suggestions?
http://intothemists.com/guides/1361-kirito_kirigyas_immobilize_build
Build i came up with around August, 2013 it has evolved into this. The build is based on 8 secs of immobilization. The idea is to ketch your enemy in all 8secs and then steadily just cut away there HP while they are left defenseless from the Immobilization. Being a thief it is very easy to down that person in the 8 second period of immobilization because of thief’s high DPS unless you break free from the 8secs, or evade the 8secs you will be done for, but given that every 30 secs you reset that 8secs of immobilization it is very difficult not to be locked by the immobilization.
Message me with any questions or constructive criticism at “kirito kirigya” or “Act Of Waffle.5649”
Hi guys!
Yes, this is a PvE build and not a WvW nor PvP build and this is an UPDATED version of my previous PvE video from 6th of july so I know that PvE isn’t that hot right now but I still got requested to do an update!
I made a high damage/good support build before and got great respons so I decided to make an updated version on it just to show you what I have changed/improved and so on!
Link to the 1.0 version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkH7EMNMhVI&list=TLVF_zyfLfw7r0DOxXMjOkMsXNwLgWjp50
Link to the 2.0 version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZBLVXxwd14&feature=c4-overview&list=UUOOSBPRW0cmq6a8PKCCwrow
I have managed to nearly double my damage just by switching some runes out for orbs and to get some better ascended gear! I can’t wait to make a 3.0 version when I get the ascended weapons!
Build calcuator: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fYQQNAsaVlUmKNXcS4E95Ex2jeuTe69gsgdsaFoJA-jwxAYLQ8VgSeFRjtNUENW9CmGFR5Oo6YAyD-e
————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
The purpose with this build is to sustain high damage while you still contribute with boons to your party! You also got a lot of different slots to swap out, just to fit your playstyle better, and I will go through a couple of them!
Berserker gear
Valkyrie sword and short bow
Berserker pistols
Soldiers/Berserker trinkets
Sword: sigil of force
Short bow: sigil of bloodlust
Pistol: sigil of accuracy
2320 power
3334 attack
2063 precision
64% crit chance
98% critical damage
Utility skills/Elite skill
Hide in shadows
Skale venom
Assassin’s signet
Signet of agility
Thieves guild
Traits: 10/30/0/0/30
Deadly arts:
III (mug, do dmg when stealing)
Critical strikes:
I (furious retaliation, gain fury when the target is on 50% health),
III, (side strike, gives you 7% more chance to crit if you are behind the target)
XII, (execusioner, deal 20% more dmg when target is under 50%)
Trickery:
V (thrill of the crime, gain fury, might and swiftness when stealing),
IV(flanking strike, do 5% dmg when hitting from the side or behind),
VII (bountiful theft, give vigor to allies when stealing)
The main ability for this build is “Steal” because you got 3 trait slots with steal-required attributes! In deadly art you get “mug” which damage the target that you use steal on. In Trickery you got “Thrill of the crime” and “Bountyful theft”. “Thrill of the crime” gives you and all nearby allies fury, might and swiftness for 10 seconds and “Bountyful theft” gives you 10 seconds of vigor. The CD on stealth is 27 seconds, so after the boons disappear you only got 17 seconds left until you can use it again and regain all the boons!
Alternativ trait slots:
Instead of “Mug”[I] and 10 points in deadly art for 10 points in shadow arts and pick “Slowed pulse”[II] which will give you regeneration if you get 2 or more stacks of bleed.
Instead of “Side strike”[III] you can take “Practiced tolerance”[VI], 5% of the precision is converted to vitality.
Instead of “Execusioner”[XI] you can take “Hidden killer”[XII], which will give you a 100% chance to crit while in stealth (a tip is to use dagger then, so you can get “ambush”)
Instead of “flanking strikes”[IV] you can take “Merciful ambush” [I], which stealth you and an ally when ressing another ally. Or “Initial strike” [IX] which gives you a 7% chance to regain 1 initiativ per attack you do (you can only use skills 1-3).
Alternatively (if you think that you die too fast) you could also swap 10 points in Deadly art and 10 points in trickery (remove “flanking strikes”) and put 20 points in Shadow arts and take “Slowed pulse”[II] and “Shadow embrace”[IV], which remove 1 condition every 3 seconds while in stealth. You could also switch to “Leeching venoms”[IX], but only if you play with daggers or use the short bow, because you need to deal poison to get healed!!
Playstyle:
Always start with Steal, this will give you much more advantage!
As soon as you used it you press “Pistol whip” 3(sword) and if there’s a normal mob, you don’t need to do much more… Because it’s dead..
If you encounter bosses or veteran mobs you start with the same tactic, but you could also put up your thieves guild before you use stealth.
After you’ve used Pistol whip you dodge back and use “Infiltrator’s strike”2 (sword) just to have a plan B if you get low on health and.
After that you encounter the mob again and start off with “Blackpowder” 5(pistol off-hand) then you go with Pistol whip again (blinds them)!
Dodge and then Pistol whip again.
Then just repeat! Stealth should be ready by this time! If not, use Pistol whip once again!
Hey guys, I made this build just messing around, it turned out to be a very powerful build in my opinion. This build focuses on condition damage and interrupts. The weapon sets are p/d – d/p, but you can replace the d/p for whatever, but I enjoy having it as a secondary for those times you need stealth but there’s nothing you can cloak and dagger on. The scorpion wire and daze on steal provide good interrupts. I typically stay in p/d as that’s the source of most conditions from this build. You can swap some of the traits that I use if you think others will fit your play style of this build, such as swapping leeching venoms. If you wish, you can swap scorpion wire and basilisks venom for Ambush and thieves guild and swap shadows rejuvenation for venomous aura for even more torment and vulnerability! Lemme know what you think about this build, hit me up in game sometime too if there’s any questions~

Scorpion Wire
-Interrupt
-Pulls opponent so you can C&D
-Lessens the need to use steal as a gap closer
Skale Venom
-Vulnerability and torment
-Instant cast
-when used with TG, ambush and venomous aura, thieves gain the venom as well
resulting in a possible 12 stacks of torment if all hits from TG, Ambush thief
and yourself hit.
Blinding Powder
-Good in a pinch
-Blast finisher
-Good alternative to d/p swap when enemies are far from you

Hi guys! This is my build! I call it Valkyrie-Berserker Build! Critical Dps assassin!
In my opinion 50-60% critical chance is the best!
I choose to use berserker armor and Valkyrie trinket because so i can switch to full berserker build anytime without needed to buy new runes and transmute stone to style my armor!
I have 2 build, 1 is Valkyrie-Berserker build and 1 more is Full Berserker build, and to change this build just by resetting the traits and changing the trinket!
Valkyrie-Berserker trait ( can roam solo, good at offensive wvw)
10 30 30 0 0
Full Berserker build (Very good at defending wvw, very good at roaming in group)
30 30 10 0 0
Full Berserker build best to go with pistol-pistol because of its low Hp. However, you can always switch to dagger if you feel like it.

This is really a great build!Thank you very much!
1.Remember to spam shadow strike because it’s a powerful condition with no CD.
2. remember to stealth your hp up if you feel threatened
3. remember to use basilisk venom.
4. Remember that steal will daze, poison, blind, stealth, steal boons, grant vigor, deal damage, and heal you on a 21 second CD. (very useful)
5. remember to use weapon skill 1 when in stealth.
6. Finally custumize the build’s utilities anyway you like (Caltrops may be useful in some group settings) Enjoy XD.

That’s my current build+armor, mostly played in fractals (currently 27):
http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/thief/?7.0|8.1g.a5.8.1g.a5.0.0.0|a.1g.a1.a.1g.a1.0.0.0|1n.a1.1n.a1.1n.a1.1n.a1.1n.a1.1n.a1.0.0.0.0.0.0|2s.d14.2s.d14.3s.0.2s.0.2t.d14.2s.0|k3a.u56b.0.k19.0|0.0|57.5b.5a.5c.5w|e
I’ve tried to play the 10/30/0/0/30 version to have more support trough steal with multiple boons, but missing acrobatics makes me die more often. The armor is a bit defensive.
Would be grateful for any advice to make the build more effective in groups =)
After a ton of experimentation with Signet of Malice and various gear setups, I finally settled on this:
I went back and forth on mixing in some Apothecary’s to increase the heals from Signet of Malice, but finally decided that the base amount without any Healing Power was enough of a boost to Assassin’s Reward to make the minuscule amount of healing you get from Healing Power not worth it.
The goal was to match or exceed the amount of healing I can get from Withdraw through attacks alone. On a lvl 80 mob in Orr (single target), Death Blossom heals for about 900 (450 from Assassin’s Reward and about 450 from Signet of Malice). Roughly calculating the amount of initiative you’d need to spend to get about the same amount of health from Withdraw (roughly 5 DB’s) comes out to about 20 Init. I believe with the Init recharge traits I have traited, that I can gain more than this every 15 sec. (base 1 per sec, plus Opportunist, Quick Recovery, Kleptomaniac, Infiltrators Signet).
So, the healing out-heals Withdraw and damage is applied mostly through bleed stacks. My estimations on healing were done without considering auto-attack at all – just skills that spend Initiative. With auto-attack factored in, I think that the healing is obviously better than withdraw.
I would mix in more Apothecary gear, if Healing Power were improved – but for now, the life on hit base amount simply doesn’t get enough boost from it – but it’s enough as is to put the total healing over time above Withdraw, which was the concept.

hey guys! i need some advice on this build here:
what im trying to do is make a thief that centers around stealth and critical hits, moving in quickly and killing an enemy asap with high crit/burst damage. please help me make it the best it can be, and ill be sure to ask questions as well.
Hey all!
not my build but a guide to Sword/dagger with Shortbow Spvp/pve/wvw
Here ya go!

This build is designed around a ton of power, survivability and condition damage. P/P and D/D alts. Soldier’s armor with runes of strength, bloodlust and agony on both sets. Trinkets are carrion.
Tweaks? Thanks
Just got my Thief to 80 and been messing around with the builds, and right now this one seems to work amazingly well so I’ll share it. Apologies if it has been posted here before exactly like mine is.
============
Gear :
All Assassin’s gear fitted with Beryl Orbs ( yes, Beryl orb for more vit, crit damage and power, no rune set out there gave me the same satisfying results ).
Trinkets same as above with Exquisite Beryl Jewels.
Assassin’s or Berserker’s dagger / dagger and a shortbow. Sigils on the daggers are superior air on main hand, superior accuracy on offhand and the shortbow has superior fire for even more AoE.
Stats : http://i.imgur.com/R1XQK4S.png
============
Traits :
0/30/30/10/0
I, VI and XI in critical strikes
IV, VI and XI in Shadow Arts
IV in Acrobatics
Reasoning : as much crit/backstab damage but also having the vit and toughness to counter the squishyness of the class. The IV in Acro is mainly for amazing swiftness uptime ( got up to 2+mins swiftness by myself from killing random mobs ). Kill a mob insanely quick with this build and gain swiftness as a bonus to counter the lack of the buff.
Screen : http://i.imgur.com/LZuQzGe.png
============
Utility skills :
Hide in Shadows for your healing skill because of the bonus stealth provided by it.
Shadowstep for both as a closer skill and as a condition cleansing skill.
Shadow Refuge for all kinds of situations. It heals, grants alot of stealth ( duration wise ) and you can use it to cap a skillpoint and bypass hard skillpoints in Orr using this skill.
Assassin’s signet for the passive power and on demand burst towards your backstab !
Elite can be whatever you want. I use Basilisk Venom in WvW but in PvE I use Daggerstorm for the AoE.
============
Again sorry if this exact build is somewhere out there but I’ve not seen it yet, not in this form anyways. Hoping someone can put it to good use and love to see the tweaks you all make to it !
First time poster, so I’ll just cut right to it.
Above is a link to my P/P; D/P thief build. I am here for critique. It is designed to synergize three sources of might stacks: dodging, venoms, and stealth, while providing venoms and stealth for allies. I designed this to be a fun support role to play and have not tested it thoroughly yet (my thief is as of this writing only 63). Here’s a quick review of my perceived pros/cons followed by a bit of explanation for those who are interested.
Pros
=======
-Lots of utility
-Support for group by providing might stacks and additional DPS through venoms
-Synergy with pistol’s stealth skill plus dark field for life stealth (if timed correctly, one can use Shadow Refuge, attack immediately with pistol, use one unload, and then enter stealth again for one more pistol stealth; each shot counts for a life steal while Shadow Refuge is on ground)
-Versatile melee/ranged
-Capable of entering and exiting fights quickly
-Decent armor and opportunity for healing
-With boon and might duration, can stack might and sustain quickly
Cons
=========
-Extremely vulnerable to conditions and snares
-No stun break
-Lacks power and critical comparable to other builds
-Only source of initiative regen is stealth and natural
-Heavily relies on dodging to avoid damage
-Provides no fury to offset low critical
-Is moderate to extremely squishy
Utility Skills
==========
Venoms
It goes without saying, venoms and stealth are the core of this build for support and might stacking. The more the better.
-Spider Venom: Poisons the target which provides vulnerability and damage. Plus it stacks with entire party. It also weakens the target when you apply your poison.
-Skale Venom: Adds vulnerability and another condition.
-Basilisk Venom: This one is mostly for the might stack, but it can provide a small amount of crowd control
Shadow Refuge
This one is to provide stealth and might for yourself (as well as the dual pistol utility described in the pros) or as a support mechanic for the entire party. It is mainly situational, but it can help speed dungeons up or sneak a party past something by standing in it for the full duration which provides a total of 20 sec of stealth over 5 pulses with the added stealth duration (15 sec by the time you can move from it), as well as up to 10 stacks of might.
============
Why P/P, D/P?
To be blunt, I simply find this combination the most fun of all the weapon sets. Shortbow is a close second with it’s backwards evade/cripple attack, but in the end I like the dual skill unload and the cutting into the action with a dagger. Secondly, it offers a ranged/melee versatility that may or may not be beneficial in a game like GW2 (GW2 build and combat theory is still a fairly new concept for me). Furthermore, it provides a fair amount of utility plus another stealth option through black powder and heartseeker to an otherwise pure P/P build.
Why such a scattered build?
I really enjoy might stacking builds in general and with thief there are far too many options to choose, so I thought I’d try them all at once. The build is low on damage, but should compensate through higher armor and healing ability to make it somewhat less squishy. But it is high on utility and stealth mechanic, so it is not for those who dislike stealth.
What did you intend this build to be used for?
Dungeon/party support mostly, but I think if you swapped out the Venomous Aura trait for Shadow’s Rejuvenation and change the Basilisk Venom for Thieve’s Guild for survivability it can translate nicely into a roaming WvW or general PvE. Again it still lacks damage, but it (in theory) makes up for that in survivability. Gear can be swapped out if desired for greater survivability at the expense of more damage.
Thank you to all who took the time to read, and a thank you in advance for those who offer critique! Feel free to send me a private message if this thread was not designed to post critique replies.

Hey, I made this thief build for fun in dueling arenas it’s pretty fun, seeing the people you duel get annoyed and such. A friend and I call it the Evasioneer, pretty stupid name, but it fits and I hope other people enjoy this build and have as much fun as I did.
This build is a SB/SB build with massive evading/dodging compatibilities and does a good amount of damage.http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vYAQJAVVl0Mp3pFOxsJ8PNhwVwC9e8VjVY19grivqC-TkAg0E1oqxVjpGZN2aGfs+A
Hi,
Here is a build I am working on.
Any feedback is welcome.
(edited by Rin.1046)
@skw Your build really makes me sad. This is not halfway through a condi build. Anyway I don’t get either why would you play cond thief in WvW…does even less sence.
Just a fun perma-stealthing condi build.

Fun porting build
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fZAQRAqY4alsMp7plOxyJ8PRBNBt1w5uGxYGaFgOPSQA-TJBFABCcUAiuMAAvAgd2fAA
It works by using port to skills before each shadow shot and buying time with stealth and backstabs for another porting burst.
For example, rapidly steel—>shadow shot—>infiltrators signet/shadow step—>shadow shot.
Also, don’t forget to dodge and stealth for might XD
With plenty of endurance and damage it should be fun.
D/D build that I use in my outnumbered videos. Figured I’d post the build here to make it easier, feel free to check out the videos I use it in. (Forums Signature -> yt channel)
I need help. Can someone tell me if my build is good for (pug) dungeons. My skill level is average (or medium). I want to bring major damage to the group but at the same time I don’t want to die in one hit. I haven’t done any dungeons yet with my thief because I want to be prepared before going in. Some tips, criticism and changes is welcomed.
Here’s my build right now, I’m willing to change or keep whatever: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fZUQNAoYVlsMp3pdPxxJsPNRLRtd01BfgXnh2XQAEiA-T1RBAB3o+DM7PglyPU0HsoSw8OFAA8EACAcAwz/+8z/+bpAiYZE-w

This is something I was trying for awhile but still feels a little lacklustre

made a quip and a incinerator to play d/p. Now I’m planning to make my third legendary bolt and have been trying s/d
Wanted to see if there was a viable option of playing S/D and P/D.
Didn’t really want to jump to condi, despite how awesome condi thieves are now.
Any ideas for this build? Would really like to see another player’s perspective
I would appreciate some advice on this build. I was shooting for Condi Thief with good survivability. I play nothing but PvE and I understand that condition characters don’t shine there, but I get so tired of crit builds in PvE. So any adivice would be welcome. : ]
so i felt like making an duelist type build for longer battles against tanky enemies. not sher how i would do in pvp because I’m terrible at it. I’ve tested it at orr and I’m pleased to say it handles mobs well and makes it possible to solo the vet giants. Although you may want to switch out the secondary weapons maybe for a sort bow.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fZAQRAsY6Yl8MpopVNx7J0PNBNhwdtcz0KQ3HD2E-e
So this is my pvp Thief theory, though I haven’t tested it yet due to the expense of ascended gear, any critiques would be much appreciated.
The focus is on patient stealth and condition damage use to get the target down to %50 health and then dual dagger burst with Executioneer, Furious Retaliation and Assassin’s Signet to finish. In a previous version I had used Sup. rune of Infiltration as opposed to krait, but the damage potential was actually greater on the krait rune, as well as it applied the help to the above %50 threshold where it was needed more. Let me know what you guys think!
Sword/Dagger Tanking Thief with signets
This build has good survivability in PvP and PvE, I have not tested it in WvW yet. I enjoy doing things differently and this build is an example of that. I’ve had a lot of fun with it and that’s the point in my book.
Summary:

Use both grandmaster healing traits
Full set of Magi gear (yes, Magi).
Mesmer runes for longer duration on Tactical Strike, increased Precision/Power. (I tried Vampirism runes but the 6/6 effect of mist form seems to be broken).
Cherry Pies are basically free on the trading post and add more life steal
Its a build I’ve been playing for so long now. Today I took the time to add it to intothemist build website.
After all the thief nerfs and the buffs to some professions, I think this build stands out due to its insane mobility and survivability. Its still viable if you ignore the teleporting bugs. And of course ‘Steal’.

The biggest reason to give this build a try would be: because it’s fun to play.
This is the zerker s/d build I run for WvW, be it zerging or roaming. After this last patch, I’m not sure how viable it is, or what changes I should make. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I’ve been running this in spvp for a while now in my tournaments and hotjoins alike. The overall trade off of sustain for reliable damage has always been a problem of mine. I’ve never liked the way main-hand dagger played; be it d/d/ or d/p. I’ve also never been overly fond of specializing into a single type of damage. I’ve always gone for balanced builds and with this, you get just that. I’ve tested this in every scenario possible and it has exceeded expectations at all levels; be it 1v1s, Team Fights or what have you.
Your Jewel,sigils and runes more than make up for the lack of specialization into critical strikes. It is thanks to this that sword/dagger remains a viable option when not specced into critical strikes. It may seem meager on paper, but trust me when I say that modifiers more than make enough of a difference here.With Sword dagger you have everything you need to be down someones throat. Flanking strike is now a great way to get around the map, similar to heart seeker.
You also have everything you need in the way of sustain thanks to your specialization into Shadow Arts. Mug is also traited to damage, heal and daze all at the same time. The heal is actually somewhat considerable thanks to your celestial amulet.
You have more than enough in the way of condi pressure with pistol/dagger thanks to your speccings into trickery. You can just as easily play keep away from more cc oriented builds in between your 5,2 and 3 skills. Thanks to your traits in shadow arts, you also blind up to five targets in the immediate area any time you go into stealth, including when you land cloak and dagger. I mostly using this weapon set when i’m trying to play it safe or wear down a high damage/cc oriented opponent, but it can be just as useful when attempting to shut down a specific target on the opposite team in group fights.
It is by all accounts a hybrid spec, requiring the user to often switch between weapons in order to be effective. You direct damage fall off becomes considerable the longer you stay with a single weapon layout.
It also requires the user to be very familiar with landing and using cloak in dagger in order to work. This build depends heavily on opening and abusing stealth in order to be viable, as your regeneration and condi cleanse come only when you’re in stealth.
Like most thief builds, it will ultimately be only as good as the player using it, but in the hands of a skilled player, you’ll be a nightmare for almost any spec 1v1 and a major factor in team fights!
Figured I’d throw this up here. I’ve been getting a lot of PM’s in-game lately about my 5/6/0/0/3 setup and the sheer damage I do, so I’ll post a newly-modified miniguide here for easy access for aspiring assassins.
This is truly a build meant for the assassination-style people out there. This is focused towards WvW where the damage on CnD and Mug is higher to usually get folks with < 3k armor at 50% or below.
WARNING: This build is extremely binary without long and arduous practice and very vulnerable to counterplay if your target is left alive beyond the initial burst. This build is also one of the single most difficult builds to play effectively in the game due to the timing required to execute the damage smoothly before allowing for counterplay efforts to kick in due to the sheer number of button presses at very precise timings in a very specific order at very specific distances.
So, here we are with the build:
Tips, FAQ, and Details
Why 5/6/0/0/3 vs 6/6/0/0/2:
Because simply, 6/6/0/0/2 in order to deal equivalent damage, requires wind-up time. 5 points in DA and 3 in Trickery lets you immediately utilize another 10% damage modifier from the 5-point trait in Critical Strikes called First Strikes, which gives you 10% more damage when above six initiative. When using 6/6/0/0/2, a CnD will put you at 6 initiative (not above 6), and is often preceeded by a gap-close heartseeker, shortbow 5, infil strike, etc, thus requiring a wait period during stealth which can extend beyond the stealth duration before you’re able to stab for that modifier. While this nets more damage, especially with revealed training, I find it very inconsistent to use and easier to counter due to the wait period. Pulling off everything before BV even expires from mug landing makes executions much easier.
Why Valkyrie:
Because this build doesn’t use Shadow Arts, despite the WvW setting. Valkyrie, with more health, makes you less prone to dying to conditions, and gives you more power via sharpening stones while making you overall more resilient to burst damage. ToTC also gives you a perfectly-timed access to fury, so your sustained DPS doesn’t drop by much either after your initial burst.
Sigil of Intelligence on D/D? What?!
Yup, because there’s a very often overlooked player here: The Signet of Shadows active. The difficulty of the build and playing it right comes here with this choice. Using a long-distance engage via IS, you can get in range to use the active of SoS to blind your target from about 900 instantly, putting you in combat. This lets you hot-swap to your intelligence dagger set, granting you three automatic critical hits on your next three attacks, letting you perform a Mug (1, despite the inability to crit), critical CnD (2), and Backstab (3), all while utilizing the effects of Assassin’s Signet, and in all likelihood, Executioner.
But Flanking strikes lets you get more damage, no?
Yes, but the might helps compensate for it, and the fury and swiftness from Thrill of the Crime are invaluable. The benefits of the swiftness are especially useful, seeing as you can therefore escape better as SoS will be on cooldown.
How come you chose S/P as an offhand set?
I did so because of the shortbow having forced auto-attack problems after using Signet of Shadows from range, and even one attack would thus cause the Intel Sigil effect to get wasted before using backstab. I also like having the increased mobility via infil strike, head-shot lets you enable a guardian by removing aegis/getting into combat from range if SoS is down, and black powder allows for more secure stomps against classes with CC effects during downed like guard, ranger, and warrior.
How do you set up?
I prefer to pre-cast BV and Assassin’s Signet unless the foe has aegis, in which case I’ll either use Dancing Dagger, or headshot to remove it. I’ll then engage as normally with the rest of the signets used, followed by a weapon swap, steal, CnD, and the stab.
I lose a lot to guards. Why?
They’re kitted out to deal with this kind of build better than most classes due to their access to blocks, stability, aegis, protection, etc. Fighting a good one is very difficult and one of those things I mentioned at the beginning about counterplay.
Why not Signet of Malice?
You need condition cleansing and a good heal somewhere. Plus free stealth. Not really worth the 5 might IMHO.
This build is really stupid; it’s so vulnerable!
Which is what I said in the beginning. This is truly THE assassination build. It’s meant to kill an isolated and unprepared target, and leave. If you want a skirmisher for “1v1 me bro” l33t pr0 ski11z du31z, look into P/D perplex or anything built around Shadow Arts. This build is not designed for that.

Good day,
For those PVE condition Thieves out there I want to share this build i’ve been using the last 6 months. I would mainly use this build for solo content purpose or during dungeons while you are the only person spec’d for condition damage.
Note:
- You may want to switch the 2nd set to: Dagger/Pistol depending on the situation.
- You actually need 3 weapons in total, saves you some cash too.
My opening rotation:
1. Activate all 3 venoms;
2. Get in (steal F1) range from target;
3. Use Death Blossem, imediatly followed by Steal (F1);
You will teleport to your foe while channeld your death blossem resulting in a free opening strike;
4. Perform 2 more Death Blossems (or 3 when you have initiative left);
5. Dodge, target will get extra bleeding due caltrops (Uncatchable);
6. Use Signet of Agility to regain energy (and cure 1 condition);
7. Dodge some more to stack more bleed-stacks;
[Target still standing?]
8. Swap to you’re second weapon-set (if you use pistol/dagger as 2nd weapon-set);
9. Use shadow Strike to create distance and keep more pressure with torment-condition;
10. Auto-attack with pistol 1 to keep bleed-stacks on the target;
[Wait..the Target still stands? Must be some Vet or Champ you’re fighting]
11. Auto-attack with pistol 1 till you have regained all initiative;
12. Rinse and repeat;
I hope I may have helped the small group of PVE condi-Thieves out there:)

For PvE, WvW and PvP is my healthseeker build. Ranger and Hambow killer.
Very strong in 1 v 1, grants superior sustain, superior mobility and superior damage with might stacks, high power and skill coefficient.

SUPA HOT DMG THIEF BUILD
For sPvP and WvW. This is hands down the best build ever made.

Ok, so you do crazy damage. 10k beautiful backstabs (if you get the crit….) you can literally kill everything if they don’t react in 1second. Surviving is pretty much impossible. You die really..really fast and if you have conditions on you, forget about it.
All you gotta do is stealth, pop both signets for 10 stacks of might, venom for another two and then steal for a total of 13 THEN BAM backstab ded.
The Idea: Initial Backstab burst, drop caltrops for cripple+bleeding, spam Death Blossom to stack bleeds, steal to add a confusion/poison/regen initiative. High crit chance coupled w/ Opportunist to regain more initiative on critical hits, +Fury when the target drops below 50% to boost crit chance to 82%. Shadow Refuge for emergency, swap to short bow for endurance gain and IA out to escape.
Many people have asked about my current build so I made this video and posted the build on MetaBattle if anyone is interested in checking it out.

Dehtd’s P/D D/P Cele Mix Build:
Take advantage of shadow art’s hidden assassin to stack upto 8 stacks of might via D/P black powder combos prior to opening up the P/D sneak attack rotation. (sneak attack, shadow strike, steal, shadow strike, blinding powder or shadow refuge, sneak attack, weapon switch to D/P, shadow shot, heartseeker/autos). This rotation is a strong burst that works by summing both modest direct damage and condition damages together, along with life leech and sigil of air procs this provides high offensive pressure that will panic even the most skilled and tanky players in wvw.
Also don’t forget the shadow refuge dark field combo with the pistol, the life leech from this combo will add about an extra 1k of dmg and return 1k of health to you. This along with Mug, the life leech procs from the scavenging runes and food buff, in addition to shadow’s rejuvenation is what can make this cele mix or any hybrid build with 6 in SA a pain for others to fight in small scale wvw roaming.
Needless to say, this build is no longer viable.

Can some one help me with my build. This is my current build: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fZAQNAoYVlsMpuplPx5JsPJxXB4VoHA
Notice: I only have 3 trait points so we’ll have to work around that. Also I want my build to be based on survivability and evading attacks.
Plot Twist: Elder Dragons are massive robots created by the Black Lion Trading Company.
Think of the money they make off weapons and armor…
