[PvE] Only use a few skills?
Are you talking open-world PvE or Dungeons?
Open-world it doesn’t matter what you do…
But if you’re talking dungeons then yes you’re playing it wrong
80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro
Yes sorry i meant dungeons indeed, lvl 80. So please teach me MASTER!
Well for starters S/P is best for meleeing in dungeons. Pistol whip provides a stun to get rid of some of those defiant stacks + Great damage. Also using the utility of the pistols #4 for interrupts (and getting rid of those defiant stacks) and #5 for blinds and much more survivability for your melee partners. Don’t forget Infiltrator strike when you need to get out.
Shortbow is a pretty much a required when you’re running dungeons with a thief. While yes cluster bomb is really great for those blast finishers and spamming it is pretty kitten good, Disabling shot is very efficient when you or your partners need to kite those type of bosses providing a near 100% up-time of cripple… + it’s an evade so you save yourself a roll.
Edit: I’ll add more later
80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro
More more more Since i’m running higher fractals aswell, lvl 20 + atm and aiming for more. At this moment i only use P/P and Shortbow for AOE, I’m running glass cannon because some one told me in the higher lvl fractals it’s impossible to survive while beeing melee, even warrior and guardians go range in like lvl 40 fractals. And so far it doesn’t seem you use every skill from your weapon set like another class would do it. It seems like a waste of those skills.
PvE is much more straightforward than PvP in most cases, so the more situational utilities don’t see as much use. Repeatedly using your most damage efficient skill is just part of how the thief initiative system works.
It isn’t you, it is how the profession is built, you spam one or two weapon skills and use the other three on a situational basis instead of rotating through all of your cooldowns.
A lot of classes in GW2 are two button wonders in PvE. Get used to it. Ele and Mes are the only classes that will keep you awake, unfortunately. Warrior has to be the worst though. I literally fell asleep playing a warrior during a champ encounter.
I think, in this case, the devs took a step backwards in progression from GW. Some classes and weapons force you to have abilities on your bar that you will never touch. Seems silly to limit the amount of skills you can use, then also limit what you can have on your bar on top of that.
For DG’s I run a S/P build that regens a good amount of ini and health. (Omnomberry Pie is awesome)

I run a mix of Karma/AC/zerker gear with zerker weps and accessories.
Okay thanks Guys! So far it seems that you don’t use every spell. I hope some other skills will be more usefull than in the future

Which utilities do you run in dungeons also? Sometimes changing your utilities a bit might reduce boredom. Hence signets…
I personally run:
Smoke Screen
Shadow Refuge
Roll for initiative
Dagger Storm

Yes i do change my utilities depending on the fight. Smoke screen can be very handy indeed
I’ve been doing 25/30/15/0/0 backstab spam. I literally only use 1 and 5 (occasionally HS for closing gaps), but I’m also running Signets of Power + Signet Use, so tossing in signet CD’s make the rotation a bit more interesting otherwise.
Sometimes I might throw in Refuge + Blinding Powder for group utility, but I’ve been running mostly solo lately so usually it’s just signets.
