The world could use more S/x Thief
FIST FLURRY! ORA!!
Greetings folks!
For a long time on my thief I have been using rune of the wurm for its vitality, but I finally think its time to take off the training wheels and choose a more “zerker” type of rune. However I don’t know which one to choose. So in a dungeon/ open world setting which set of runes would be better?
Scholar, thieves don’t stack might well.
Scholar if you can keep yourself at 90% of your hp for more than 50% of the time. (I think the real number is 60%, but i’m not sure).
Ranger with a mini if you can keep your hp.
Do mini’s count for Ranger runes?
Don’t use Precision runes on a thief…
Why no to precision runes? Wouldn’t you want to maximize the critical chance? Is it because the crit chance is high enough and you would be better off putting the effort elsewhere, like say power?

Sorry, should have explained more.
As a thief you already have the highest crit chance in the game.
6 points in Precision trait line
Signet of Agility
Side Strike
Keen observer
Food
Thats about 77-78% CC in Full zerk w/ Scholar(I’m cheap so I use 80 Power 60 Precision food; the Precision here is already a loss but meh…It’s for when I lose Keen Observer ;p )
For solo, you have a decent amount of Fury uptime(Furious Retaliation+Thrill of the Crime) and in group it SHOULD be perma Fury from Ele’s. Brings you up to 98% CC.
Add a Discipline Banner and you have 105%
And of course there is a small chance you’ll get a Ranger with spotter, adds even more CC that you don’t even need.
And that is on lvl 80, with the broken downscalling in this game, you’ll hit the cap even faster. The numbers are maybe not 100% correct but they are close.
So yeah, TL;DR
Precision runes are a waste on thief
Runes of the Pack for thief work pretty well. Has a good “on hit” proc, swiftness bonus, power, and precision boost. Pairs extremely well with TotC.
Ya Acotje is right, sorry. If you go meta pve, precision runes is a waste. But it can drop quicly if you don’t use a meta build, so check that out depending on your trait, gears and skills.
Runes of the pack is surprisingly good in solo situation or in pvp. But you need to get hit for it to be good, which is something you try to avoid as much as possible normally. It also useless in group content where other profession can provide perma amount of fury without much problem. Again, it depend on your situation.
Went with the Scholar runes and I have to say i’m loving the results. Maintaining 90% health can be difficult at times, but if that becomes the case I just switch from executioner to invigorating precision and it becomes much easier to maintain.
Thank you for the advice everyone!
(so…. case closed I guess )
