Q:
Hey guys. Maybe its not at the real forum. But here goes
I just bought the game yesterday, and have been reading around the net for information about the game and it’s mechanics. I used to play Vanilla WoW, and started again a bit of Mmo. Its different from WoW, but it goes and i really like the game. I just rolled an anonymity thief, and she is level 4 right now.
I want some information beginner tips for starters like me.
Professions? What are good for crafting professions as a thief? Leatherworking was my first thought. But what about second? Ive read that jeweler is a good one for gems and such – but i dont even know how they work yet.
Crafting tips? Well, i noticed that you can use a salvage kit to salvage for crafting materials, fx leather and some cloths for crafting. (I dont have any crafting profession yet, so i dont know much of anything before anyone starts flaming at me)
How about weapons? currently im rolling 2x dagger in main and off hands. Is there any difference between sword and gun?
Whats a good second weapon swap? (secondary weapons) Just a bow – or guns?
How about traits and such, and leveling a thief with 2x daggers? Any better suggestions?
And last – im guessing to focus on PvP, but should i wait until i get to max level cap? (which i dont really know)
Sorry for my bad english, but i hope you guys can help a newcomer out
Thanks for reading!
Peace

An excellent place to start and learn about the profession, crafting and other good stuff, is the Guild Wars Wiki. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Main_Page
Speaking from my experience as a Thief, the crafting that are useful to Thief are leatherworks, weaponsmithing, jeweler. Food are generally useful too.
However, you should, at the moment, treat crafting as something you utilize to give you Experience Points for leveling your profession, rather then seeing it as a way to supply yourself with gears. The reason is because it is more expensive to craft an equipment and time consuming than to just buy it directly from Trading Post. The only time when crafting is profitable is when you start crafting the end-game exotics gears.
Salvage kits is used to salvage equipments and salvageable items. The broken down components are stuff you will need for crafting (although many of them can be mined all over the world).
Different weapons (and main-hand/off-hand combination) gives you different set of skills you can use. Try using them and see how you like them, base on your play style. Generally, Daggers are single-target melee, Swords are multiple-targets melee, pistols are single-target range, short-bows are multiple-targets range.
For traits and build information, just search through the forum or the internet – there are a lot of information on Thief builds. Choose one that you find fun to play with.
you don’t have to wait till max level to participate in PvP or WvW. When you enter these area, you are automatically scaled up to 80. This is especially for PvP tournament (Mist) where all your skills and traits are unlocked for you to play around with.

This guy has some amazing tutorials for Thief sPvp.
The thing is, you can take this information and utilize it in WvW and PvE and you will learn a GREAT deal more about how to make your profession more efficient.
Thanks for you’re replies. I’ll check out that vid. An hour long vid give a bit much of info.
I’ll give you a quick rundown
Crafting: Forget about it for now. It’s only a source of extra XP which you won’t need if you explore all the content. Store your materials and then consider leveling it later if you want. But for now it’s not worth the time and money.
PS: There’s a “store ingredients” button in your inventory.
Salvaging: Use Basic Salvage Kits to salvage white items. Sell the green and blue items to vendors and the yellow ones on the trade post.
Weapons: Feel free to mess around with all of them. But ultimately I’d recommend going with Sword + either Pistol or Dagger off-hand. Swords are simply superior for leveling due to their cleave damage.
If you do dungeons make sure to keep your Shortbow ready as they are unforgiving for melees.
