You steal the boons, just not “stacks” of boons. It has worked this way as long as I can remember.

Uhm, as far as i know, when using Steal on NPC, you steal items/abilities rather then NPC buffs.

Also, may just be that the might ran out as soon as you got it.

He’s talking about the Trickery trait Bountiful Theft which rips two boons on steal. It’s a long-known bug that you only get one stack of might no matter how many you rip from the enemy, whether it be NPC, Player, or AI pet.

The skill functions not as a boon “rip” as you might think it would. It removes two boons, then applies those types of boons to you on set timers and stacks. Currently, you only get 1 stack of might and protection will be applied to you for a maximum of 3 seconds if you remove them from a target. It doesn’t actually “copy” the boons you ripped onto you. Maybe mirror would be a better term to describe it.

Just as a reminder — since it seems that everyone here is a lone wolf — Bountiful Theft gives the boons nearby allies as well. That’s probably a consideration for the trait’s functionality as-is. Thieves with friends can really multiply the effectiveness of the boons that are stolen.

This is the best part when running 5-man havoc. I only get Vigor, Regen, and Swiftness from my own traits and utilities, but when running with a guardian and an ele, using your finishers smartly and ripping boons from enemies in melee range of your allies can result in some serious support capabilities; I’d even go as far as arguing that it’s better support than Venomshare.

^ I don’t know if Bountiful Theft is better than Venomshare in terms of party support, but VS is not mutually exclusive with BT in any case. Shadow Arts does all the heavy lifting in VS, so you can run a 20/0/30/0/20 build as long as you’re getting some extra condition removal from another source.

How is this build geared and played? Seems interesting…

I’m guessing it’d be a P/D rabid/dire condition build considering the Condition Damage you get from Trickery and the Duration you get from Deadly Arts.

Contrary to what most people think, i do have a thief, granted its only level 38 by now. And yes, i know about bountiful theft, didn’t know it was bugged though

uhm a friend of mine ran that build with rampager or rabid gear. With i think it was carrion trinkets. Not 100% sure

Weapons was Sword Dagger and SB. I ran trap ranger with firefield and waterfield. Thief applied venoms and blasts, i applied condition cleanse and fields… got some good might stacking going with that combo

Party comp is the deciding factor, not the Thief. You can shoehorn any number of things, but I personally think it works well with D/D + Shortbow, as a condition build (#3 and #5 on main are your friends). The main weapon combo is negotiable, but you really need a Shortbow if you are trying to provide some party support.

DA gives you Venomous Might (which you also apply to your allies with sharing) and Quick Venoms. Shadow Arts gives Embrace, Leeching Venoms (see above: also applied to allies), and Venomous Aura. Trickery is for Thrill and BT, so that you’re applying Swiftness/Might/Fury/Vigor and ripping/spreading boons.

Because you are using a lot of venoms, you are really constrained for things like condition removal and healing, which is why you need a group to prop up that aspect. Like a Shout-based Guardian, or something.

Dire is strong, and I think Apothecary is also useful in pieces. Not something I’d ever recommend to a random Thief, though.
