Rangers are getting a ranged stealth ability
Wow, perma stealth thiefs crying about 1 stealth for us rangers. It was an update needed for far to long.
Here’s a clue. The majority of us in this thread aren’t crying about it. We’re speculating on how the mechanics are going to work, and ways to counter it.
Second clue: Not all thieves are perma-stealth thieves.
Third Clue: Go back to the ranger boards please.
Here’s a clue. I was responding to not all but some of the above posters that were crying.
You can understand why people jump at posts when the thieves’ forum has so many “nerf thief” posts. Thieves are forced to be defensive on their own forum due to this.
A thief would attack from stealth since we have stealth attacks. A ranger wouldn’t attack from stealth since they do not have any stealth attacks; their stealth would be purely defensive. Therefore, the ranger would wait out the full duration of stealth.
Assuming a thief would attack within 1 sec from entering stealth, over 29 sec the stealth uptime is roughly 28%. Assuming the thief attack right before stealth ends to maximize stealth uptime, over 31 sec the stealth uptime is roughly 50%.
This is not taking stealth stacking into consideration.
Assuming a ranger would stay in stealth for the full duration of stealth and with the -20% CD reduction on weapon, over 30 sec the stealth uptime is roughly 40%.
As a thief, may I have my 1200 range weapon back please? Also, please add an option to increase the range to 1800 please? Thanks.

Nope, Ranger will use stealth for offensive also because of this;
“Remorseless: This trait now reapplies Opening Strike when the ranger gains stealth…”
But yes, by default without trait, it will be pure defensive.

As a thief player, I grabbed my Ranger as reaction to this thread and gave it a spin. I have the Ranger configured as a fairly standard BM cleric bunker and swapped out the Greatsword for a Longbow (leaving Sword/Dagger on the switch). The results were hilarious. It allowed me, a bunker, to stealth and re-position to open with a new chain of damage. Thieves have to come close to resume the fight but the Longbow 3 seconds really allow you to move to an entirely different direction causing total (long-range) confusion and allowing additional time for the target to approach. Overall, it’s not a game breaker and it was hilarious to play, but Thieves are constantly attacked for the ability to Stealth, so I’m sure that the Rangers will feel our pain in the near future.

Actually, its 31.5789% of uptime if traited. They have to go a long way to get something out of this (30 points in MM, giving up signet actives on the ranger), which is 5 stacks of vulnerability, and a guaranteed crit (which doesn’t work yet).

Indeed! Sounds fun! I was (ab)using PBS in stealth to slap people around without knowing where the hit will be coming from. I’m going to give this a whirl too, keeping melee in a loop stuck forever trying to reach you sounds hilarious

I don’t know how to say it to you, so I’ll just say it… stability.

I’m guessing most good thieves will know how to play against a stealthy ranger. It’ll be funny to see the bad rangers trying to sneak around with a big bear following behind them.
Honestly it’s 3 seconds of stealth and rangers are forced to use Longbow which severely gimps any currently troublesome builds (SB 1 spamming, anyone?). I don’t see this becoming an issue. Engineers already have stealth, so do mesmers and elementalists.

lol, yup, I’ll have fun sniping when I get home tonight.
Oh and don’t forget to bring your Jaguar for a stealth buddy.

I’d like to know if reflecting Hunters Shot will give us stealth instead.
So when WvW was up, I killed a bunch of rangers with longbows, same old same old, I didnt even notice the stealth.

So…you beat a bunch of players? Wow, congrats. Want a cookie? How about an arrow to the knee? You don’t see me bragging about how the only way guardians can beat me is to hammer me off a cliff, do you? That’s because boasting is a sin in the Church of Jedsus and Saturday Feints.

Honestly thieves, you guys are overstating Remorseless..
Lets look at the builds that might actually use Remorseless
A. Maul Builds, these are the GreatSword/LB builds with basically Cav Gear/Knights/PVT ect ect, you can go Berserker if you want, but its very squishy, Maul is basically our Version of Backstab, cept its a lot harder to land, If we pop you with it, it will hurt ect ect…This build will not use Remorseless, Because this build is designed around using Signet of Beastmaster to increase your damage via SoTW/SoTH and having 6 seconds of Invul with Signet of Stone…
B. Rampager Bleed Builds, could use this setup…However I still think increased longbow range and pierce arrows is a better pick, Mainly because I already have 60% chance to crit base, before I factor in fury.
Those are actually the only two builds that I can think of right now that actually use Longbow.
The only one that would really get the most benefit would be the Maul Builds, but they already have a great trait they have to pickup.

The solution is: Glass Cannon with our dear Basilisk Venom, they are medium armor, they can spec full Toughness, but they will die in few seconds anyway.
It’s time to stop this D/P 10/30/30 abuse…

The stealth isnt very reliable tbh since it needs an actual hit to grant stealth. Obstruction, block, evade, miss (which is 50% of the time) = no stealth. You can also strafe around at longer ranges and the projectiles won’t hit you.

I haven’t encountered it yet, but then again, I’ve been trying to get my hands on that Aetherized Pistol skin, and no WvW. Meh, such a sweet pistol skin but not easily attained. :/

Isn’t quick draw (20% cd reduction) a master trait (20 points) in Skirmishing (not 30 points in MM)?

LOL at the people thinking that a piercing Hunter’s Shot not granting multiple stacks of stealth is a bug.

What I meant was, Hunter’s shot resetting opening strike, and always critting, as I was thinkig about this like a damage increasing mechanic. Probably most people will just use it to drop perssure. Yeah Quickdraw is 20 points into skirmishing.
