I am way too lazy/proud to post on the ranger forum. It would be a disgrace to the familia lol.
I have two remarks I would like you to clarify:
1. Some rangers in WvW can stay invisible even longer than thieves now? How do they do it? It’s not indefinite is it?
2. Some ranger got me revealed out of nowhere. He wasn’t even close to me. It happened multiple times, and obviously, all the escape mechanism just do not work anymore. At that point it’s green light for them to nuke.
I just ended up spamming Death Blossom ( D/D #3, yup it actually had some use tonight) and ran away with no hp.
But still, how the hell do they force a reveal on someone? that’s kind of OP I think.
1. 3 sec stealth http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hunter%27s_Shot
2. skill sick ’em http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/%22Sick_%27Em%22
Thanks Kral, but you just confirmed the problem. It’s not just three seconds. it’s a very long time. I don’t mind waiting three seconds. Waiting 10 second or more is a problem.
and Sick’ em :/ revealed for SIX secs + 2k range lol. What is this? Metal Gear Solid?
Not to come off as mean, but a simple Google search for “gw2 ranger stealth build” will give you the explanation behind their high stealth uptime. Another search for “gw2 revealed” will bring you a list of skills that apply reveal, one being Sick ‘Em, which is a very situational skill that’s nearly useless against every class except a stealth-focused Thief or Mesmer, where it becomes much more useful.
To me, there’s nothing wrong with stealth rangers or the Sick ’Em skill… just gotta know how to counter them, like every other class/build. Encounters with/against new skills can be scary at first, but a little research and practice will help you adjust.
Chill mate, chill. I am not here to hate on rangers, I was surprised I saw rangers invis. for that long. That’s why I came and asked if others had that experience, and how they dealt with it (i.e my d/d #3). We’re thieves, we don’t have any other options but adjust…
I did mention i was in a lazy mood.
There’s currently a WvW stealth trapper build for rangers. It uses the newish Superior Runes of the Trapper, which allows rangers to stealth when they lay down a trap. The runes give 3 secs of stealth and 3 secs of quickness per trap. So with hunter’s shot, they can potentially chain 12 secs of stealth and 9 secs of quickness. Max would be 15 secs if you start and finish with hunter’s shot. It’s not indefinite, since after laying 3 traps their traps are all on cool down. Also, if anything activates a trap, taking damage, the ranger will be revealed.

Rangers are just fine.
l2p.
Rangers are just as easy as they’ve always been.
If they have Signet of Stone, then go super aggressive and wait for them to inevitably pop it. Use your Shadowstep to get around a corner and just wait it out since you can’t do kitten about it. When your Shadowstep starts blinking for the timer it’s safe to re-engage. This still applies to Sic’ Em users as you’re abusing terrain, not stealth.
If they’re stealth spamming, then they’re using Superior Rune of the Trapper.
Honestly, you shouldn’t have issue with them, just keep in mind 3 things.

Thanks mate. That was helpful. That is exactly the info what I wanted to see.

- Abuse terrain with your mobility. Longbow doesn’t mean crap when you LOS them.
- Their steal skill removes condis and can be used for some clutch HS combo heals
- Their pet is full kitten: free D/D, P/D, or S/D stealth bait.
Yes definitely. Thank you for the advise, I was leaving the WvW garrison and heading south, not much cover in that regoin, but yeah the LoS part is quite obvious especially if they have all those spirits out with them.
Thanks guys.
The only thing good about ranger is RF,and thats about it.The ranger playerbase is also very low, most of them are bad at pvp.

This.
Once a ranger learns how to cancel RF and when to swap to melee, his pvp skills skyrocket.

I agree completely if it’s a longbow ranger and you are using whirling dagger you know he’s a noob ranger but when they learn to use melee weapons dun… Dun ddunnnnn… Also there seems to be a rise of really good condi trap ranger with so much stealth maybe the Op talking about that….
I run P/D and it took me about 48 hours to adjust to the Rapid Fire tweak.
I haven’t seen the stealth ranger gig too many times, but when I do I swear it makes me think the guy disconnected or rage quit. I must remember to remember this. *cheesy, embarrassed grin*
Sic ’Em, ah yes, can be a royal pain in the padded bits. Once I get past the usual "ah u sux ya cheap foo" thing, I say good for them. They used a skill well, good play, grats. Normally though, that’s what saving initiative and/or Shadowstep, having a back up plan, and not panicking is for.
The first part of that is learning to glance down to see if you are Revealed. Practice practice!
A 15+ sec hide thief that say that wait for 3 sec a ranger in hide is too much… lol

Any ranger running a LB in WvW better be zerk. Therefore they should be almost as squishy as you. Sic Em should only reveal you if you are not in stealth. obviously you cant run around stealthed but if you can get into stealth they can’t use it until they see you for a split second. Revealed is 6s yes… you cant survive for 6s, can’t kite and LOS a ranger for that long? and then Sic Em is on at least a 32s CD probably 40s if not traited meaning survive the 6s (provided he hit you with it) and you’ll have lots of time to stick and dagger in his back. that’ll probably 1 shot him. depends. Still need to watch for stone signet but you now have like 8 ways to Stealth again he has ONE reveal on you on a longish CD…good luck

I run stealth trapper on my ranger in WvW now. It’s better than perma-stealth thief days. The pet continues to eff up the opponent and a very heavy condi build synergises with the traps and makes it way OP.
Also love being chased by high mobility targets. I can cycle traps by throwing them way off to the sides and blink across the landscape on superspeed (the other attribute of those runes).
The fastest trap recharge is 16 seconds traited so it’s a lot of stealth.

12 sec traited.
You know you can run same traper runes as rangers “yes, thief got traps”.Think some ppl made video or 2,it looked quite nice. Also trap-condie,which means if he runs LB-power wep he sacrificed quite a few util slots and rune for that invis. Most traps deal dmg, thus reveal the stealthed guy.
Its super speed not quickness,as for bonus from droping traps.Imagine 3s quickness per trap?!?!
Rangers, unless they go condie regen are still like easiest kill, especially in WvW and especially for thief :-)
Solution to Sick Em?
Engage from further away.
Most rangers won’t use Sick Em outside of their attack range on the basis the thief has better mobility and can just run away for the duration. Also predicting range between ~1800 and 2000 is very difficult to do, so most just PBS → Sick Em → Auto x 2 → RF.
Thus, you can utilize Steal + Infil Signet for 1800 range engages, which won’t lead them to use Sick Em on time, thus giving you a better chance to dispatch them.
A lot of rangers run SotW + QZ/SotH + SoS these days, anyways, so there’s not much to fear. I rarely see Sick Em used.

superspeed not quickness, otherwise those runes would be beyond OP. And the superspeed doesn’t stack.

You know rangers and thieves use the same medium armor, right?. And glassy ranger builds don’t have stealth to reset fights. If you see a ranger tanky, is because that ranger is using a build to be tanky. Sames go for thieves using dire, valk, soldier stuff.
So, to sum up, being glassy affect both the same way, ranger has his evades, pets, easy access to protection and stability, while thief has stealth, shadowstep, steal and evades.
