I know it’s a little early to make final judgments, but here’s my concern, both with the Thief’s elite spec and in general -

It seems like you gain so much from just having the elite trait line (even if you don’t use the new skills associated with it) that there’s no reason to ever not use it. Daredevil is a perfect example of this. While it’s definitely a solid concept and I’m really interested in playing it, the trait line really just seems like a beefier version of Acrobatics. If that’s the case, I don’t think it’s a good approach.

Depending on how you build, there should be at least some incentive for using 3 standard traitlines (including Acrobatics) over the elite line.

Are there any plans to revise Acrobatics, or am I just missing something that Acrobatics offers that makes it competitive with the Daredevil line?

It is expected that things will get rebalanced after HoT is released — it’s inevitable.

That’s why players like myself are reserved in buying the Expansion. If ArenaNet balanced it by nerfing Daredevil, or other traits…I’m not buying the Expansion. However, if they balanced it by buffing the Core Traits, then I’ll buy the Ultimate Package. I simply want to get what I paid for (or more, not less), not getting mediocre profession after launch in the name of PvP balance.

Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.

this is actually a very interesting point – they wanted Elite specs to be on par with existing specs, and in many cases they’ve managed this.

so with daredevil, we have to ask – is daredevil too good, or is it (as has been said many times) a case that the existing specs are not good enough?

Well, you have to look at it on a case-by-case basis. If something is clearly above the power curve, it makes more sense to nerf it than it does to buff everything else. That’s how power creep becomes a problem in MMOs.

I’m not certain just based on the PoI whether Daredevil is just right (which would, IMO, confirm that Acrobatics is bad and needs a buff) or whether it’s too good and needs nerfs to make it more comparable to the other lines.

My guess it that it might actually be a little of both. However, there’s almost no question that Thieves are actually an underpowered profession whose gimpiness is masked by how cheap Stealth can be. So, I actually think more that there’s a baseline/standard traitline issue more than there’s a Daredevil issue.

You have to see this in the long term. Give this Daredevil line 3-4 months and it will be treated just like another line. The elite spec is so attractive simply because it is new and as Thieves, we have been slowly dying here for quite a while.

It’s pure economics really. It’s new, it’s flashy, so it must be great. Demand will sore, adding value to the trait, as time goes by however, people will revert back to what they really enjoy. Eventually, the value of the elite spec line will drop back down to it’s real value.

Note that there is will be endless fixes, nerfs and buffs for the sake of balancing (they are already talking about nerfing D/D ele for example), this means they will eventually tackle our core traits including Acrobatics.

Give it time.

Gw2 Elite Spec system is simply an expansion of the profession. Just another way to add a “new profession” (apart from example of the revenant). It is not necessarily an upgrade like most people would think, but you need to understand that they have to make it look amazing.

Your demands are reasonable but you seem to purposefully forget (even if you only play PvP or WvW) the other contents that come with HoT. Ignoring Raids, PvP maps, WvW map, legendaries, etc. And claiming that “ArenaNet [ will balance] it by nerfing Daredevil, or other traits” is a little unfounded.

Professions are extremely important, but they are about 20% of the expansion but you make it seem like it’s 95%. Believe me, I only care about WvW. The only time I PvE is for a crafting things to make me better/cooler gear for WvW.

Yes, it is only inevitable that a huge – even bigger than the one in June -balancing patch will come by the end of this year. I am looking forward to it.

I just think you should save yourself the hassle, help us send some feedback during the new BWEs and appreciate the game for it’s whole, and not the aspect that concerns just you.

Tell me this. How am I to enjoy all those if they trash my main profession?

Do you really believe that they can keep nerfing the profession due to PvP while they keep up-ing the difficulty of PvE content?

They have to come to the realization why Thieves are not ideal to bring in a Fractal runs higher than 10. Also why Thieves cannot participate in an encounter requiring 1200 range weapon. Take the Claw of Jormag for example; while other professions have 1200 ranged weapons, us Thieves has to use a crappy environmental weapon that doesn’t trigger Sigil and has a really bad skill choices and crappy attack rate.

Now with HoT and the new contents, how am I to enjoy those if they are to nerf my profession?

The only reason I would buy HoT is if they make it enjoyable to play any profession in any content, not just Warriors, Guardians, or Revenant.

Professions are extremely important, but they are about 20% of the expansion but you make it seem like it’s 95%. Believe me, I only care about WvW. The only time I PvE is for a crafting things to make me better/cooler gear for WvW.

I disagree. Professions are 100% of the game regardless if it is the Core game or the Expansion or both. You can’t enjoy the content without using your character, thus anything you do in the game are tied to how much you enjoy the profession you’ve chosen. If you don’t enjoy the profession, nothing in game will make it enjoyable to play — they simply don’t matter.

Aren’t we all? What I want to see is which direction will they take it.

Sorry, but I’ll sit this one out. In as much as I want to participate because I really like what they are doing with the Daredevil spec, the only feedback that they need right now is that I am a very disappointed customer on what they did to the game after launching the Core game and I refuse to support that kind of practice to continue.

I still play the game I paid for, of course, but I refuse to spend more money if they continue to make my profession less enjoyable to play.
