Today I was in a jumping puzzle and I got glitched inside of a wall. “no problem” I thought, “I’m a theif”. I tried to shoot out of the wall, but instead of even TRYING TO SHOOT, I get a message saying “No Valid Path to target”. Really? I played around for a bit and figured out that now instead of trying to take the shot and missing, were just not able to take shots in general. WHY? Why should you hold our hand? We should be able to take the shot, and either hit or miss. This is rediculous. The play should ALWAYS have the choice to at least take the shot, even if it will end up missing or not teleporting. I’m really dissapointed with the changes, and I’m just wondering if anyone else is, and maybe we could get some ANET insight.

Not everyone is in a jumping puzzle and has the time to wait until initiative comes back or the cooldown runs out.

In a life or downed situation I’d take having the shadowstep not do anything then waste initiative or a CD that could otherwise be spent saving my kitten .

Jrunyon, I play a ton of pvp, and personally it hurts the pvp scene as well. Making these changes do nothing but hurt the learning curve of the class, as well as punish players for innovating.

Honestly, I think they need to open the targeted based ones (ie Shadow Shot) up to where ever the target is as long as its in range. No need for a valid path.

Im tired of rangers on cliffs I cant port up to.

Just to clear up some misinformation the changes did not change where you could port to, they simply prevent you from failing your ports.

IE: Those “misses” are what you see when it says “No valid path to target”

The game prevents you from wasting initiative, cool downs, etc in order for you to have a more positive experience. If you can port, it will port you. If you wouldn’t be able to port the game prevents you from wasting the resource. The changes are possibly some of the best changes not only to teleports but in the game as quality of life. It’s there to benefit you.

PS It helps people learn, letting them avoid questioning why their ports failed and their initiative disappeared.

You were trapped behind a wall. Walls have collision boxes, usually on the mesh level for walls. You cannot shoot through a collision box, or that would be a glitch, or at worst an exploit. Happens often to me at grenth, and sometimes in wvw when walls repair ontop of me. That’s a point where you WP when you can, unless you can kill yourself somehow if you cant get out of combat mode.

Yeah right. Because when a mesmer takes the time to do a bloody jumping puzzle in pvp so that the thief leaves him the kitten alone, the thief should be able to catch up by the press of one key! How dare that pesky purple man outplay me!

That’s a terrible idea. The new changes are amazing, especially for long CD like Shadowstep and Blink. In my opinion, the only teleports without valid path should be teleports for which you placed the exit place yourself. Portal and Spectral Walk currently work like this. I wish Shadow Trap was fixed to work in a similar fashion: it is not reliable in its current state, even though I love using it in pvp.
