Rifle for single target damage
I have always loved the idea of thieves having a rifle. But this will probably just stay a dream.
I dunno about an assassin rifle because warriors seem to have you know, the same role. However, the thief could instead be a different kind of sniper, like a disabling sniper. First of all give them a trait that has 1500 range on the rifle. Then give them various weapon skills that disable certain skills on their opponent. For example, arm shot would disable their two most damaging weapon skills for a certain duration at random, knee shot would disable all gap closing skills and botch the next dodge roll, etc etc
Wrong game, and wrong class.
i would rather see crossbow, pewpewpew
Not speaking from any sort of balance perspective am I the only one who wishes we had access to rifles?
Considering this thread is created almost weekly: no, no you aren’t.
That said, I agree with the person above who noted that many thieves asking for this want it for “l33t snip3r” play, and the thief profession already has quite enough gimmicky burst assassination builds, aside from the fact that warriors already fill that archetypal niche.
There’s several weapons I’d rather see thieves get access to before rifles, but if it does happen it should go a different direction, perhaps something with a more control/evasion based skillset.
would be very fun. yes. my idea:
1) Dead eye attack (1 shot/second ) high dmg always the same shot.
2)Hollow point attack (450 range KB with medium to low dmg)
3)Stock Strike attack ( strike foe w/ stock 1 sec stun + fire a powerful shot that blinds
4)Pink Mist shot (3 sec charge for high dmg and deals double if foe is standing still)
5)Crawl shot (lay in stealth firing 3 rounds(3secs)each causing high dmg and .5 sec immobilize. range 1800)
yes i realize most are decent dmg but its a low mobility low invis. idk would be fun but prolly not. idk how to make these work with intiative.
Deca a crossbow would actually be very nice for that matter. I just want some sort of ranged single target damage outside of pistol pistol. That is just kind of meh to me.
You know it is funny I have never seen a topic talking about rifles for thieves. It might however be a limitation on the thread search engine though.
Don’t get me wrong I already knew it would be seen as a cliche by many to have the rifle for thief, but where do you draw the line for cliches? Certainly pistol pistol has to be more of a cliche than a rifle for thieves? It doesn’t even have to be focused on burst damage. Like someone said it could be a sort of debilitating weapon. Certainly in the grand scheme of things options are not a bad thing.
I also don’t think “wrong game, wrong class” is a set of logic that can be employed very well. A lot of this game relies on tried and true concepts; fighters have big swords and less conventional concepts; casters have big swords.

There were hundreds of millions of thousands of… well, plenty of threads about this because people wouldn’t give a kitten about the Thief’s core gameplay and just want to be the ‘Assassin’ even if it goes completly against the whole thing.

It has nothing to do with the cliche or not cliche, Thief by default is defined by in-combat decisions and the use of mobility in it, that’s why you see Daggers and Swords. Pistols could get there because it’s mid range and that it’s light weaponry, so it wasn’t a problem to add initiative based mechanics and creative mobility skills in there. You’d find alot of common spots between the Daggers, Pistols, and Swords you use.

And from what I just said above, well, how would you implant the Rifle gameplay based on Anet’s design of Thieves? I know that Rifle + Stealth will immediatly ring ‘SNIPER!’, but.. we’re talking about Thieves, it’s like saying that they should get a greatsword because they know a great deal about fighting. Besides Anet will have the last word on this.
No, we get Poleaxes or Staves. I want to be Donatello.

They wouldn’t be begging for more variety if thieves weren’t nerfed into a corner.
