So I have been getting back into roamin WvW a little more than I have been.

Between myself and Eval I have been entertaining a few build Ideas, below will be some that I may plan on trying.

This frost build is using full Marauder’s with Exuberance Runes to attempt at maximizing Vitality and damage. With this build you have 2311 Power 73.57% Crit chance without Fury and 212% Crit Damage on top of 21,325 Hp.

This is more defensive than I have normally built for WvW on a thief but it doesn’t trade much out, with the Food you and Sigil of Strength you will be able to keep decent amount of might stacks on yourself from Crits, with Fury this build will be at 93.57% crit chance.

This build is less Using a mixture of Berserker, Assassin’s, Maruader with a splash of Valk’s. This one is lower in stats over all but tries to maximize Crit Damage I still have hesitation with this build it can deal huge burst but with the lower HP and Power/Crit Chance it may not be as consistent as I would like.

2293 Power, 59.1% Crit chance without Fury 79.1with Fury, 234.47% Crit Damage, and 16,715 HP.

If anyone has any advice I am open to suggestions these were just the random early morning musings I had so I probably missed something that could benefit each more.

I made a Tweak that raised the Effective Power, using Zerker weapons, and Zerker Accesories. With a Valkyrie backpiece.

what i did was to squeezed as much as vitality, as i could with the trinkets and weapons. by using zerker+val trinkets i gained +108 vitality but lost that precision. then, i made up some of that precision and gained +118 vitality with the marauder weapons. the only real damage i lost was from switching zerker to marauder weapons, compared to a full zerker build.

This is my current Daredevil roaming build. If I find I’m dying too fast, ill swap No Quarter for Invigorating Precision. Ill lose a bit of damage, but gain a bit of healing and with my fury uptime, I crit often and I crit hard

I have 2 full sets of ascended Armor, with two thieves, I don’t like Daredevil too much I find I don’t need it, the last few season j made it to diamond with running only Zerker Da/CS/Tri, in sPvP, I normally run Da/Tri/SA I find that better overall for how I play then using Daredevil.

before the specializations, i was lacking movement speed so i was running full zerker with runes of speed.

I am running that one on one thief but replaced the assassins chest with Marauder’s.

I don’t lack Speed since I am used to not having Dash so I can forgo it since I have SB, if anything you can swap Daredevil in for Deadly Arts, but will lose control.

Still tweaking builds a bit trying to find a happy medium for me with HP to Damage output ratio. Right now I am trying my assassins build with Some Mara and maybe a piece of Valk’s for the boots I think around 16k hp will be nice just trying to not drop the 100% crit chance my build will afford me.

It could work it loses out on Buffed potential since running CS you have Fury 100% uptime.

Here is the effective power out put with Buffs and modifiers accounted for.

So I noticed this build takes advantage of furious maintenance oils, which is a big no no because you can only obtain one a day, so unless you plan to roam 30 minutes or have a stash of these saved up a different oil/stone is needed.

You can only craft one charged quartz a day and they are not tradeable. However charged amberite(the componet you upgrade the quartz) is trade able they go for about 2.3g a piece. All said and done if your buying charged amberite it will cost you about ~50s for 30mins isn’t far fetch. Crafting your own does further reduce the cost.

Personally I find value in them as I make nearly double that per half hour.

A stack of 50 cost me 27g on the Tp last night after leveling to 450 Huntsman, and each time you craft it you get 5. The initial cost is expensive, but the upkeep isn’t bad if you craft 1 per day.

this calculator could be use better for constant pve damage but not wvw.

It shows the average effective power it doesn’t factor in high Burst or crits from having 100% crit so I use it a base to tweak and I run the average burst numbers manually using the damage formulas it’s a bit of work but in the end it gives you accurate numbers, also it all comes down to play styles on how effective builds work.

Your build is effective, no doubt I have thought of making a life steal style build they have promise, right now I am attempting a full burst build that won’t die to a stray breath of wind.

i try to burst my enemies as much as i can with d/d when im roaming. if thats not enough, then i go defensive with d/p (as you saw i did with the first thief). its really hard to have a all around build to deal with random people in wvw.

i also have another set of zerker armor with hoelbrak runes and i also change the food, if there’s too many condis during the day (-40% condi duration)

have you decided what build your going to use next?

Right now on my two thieves I run the variant of build 1 and my other I use the assassins build, I find the assigns build works better for quick bursts, yet I have problems with Revenants the Build 1 Variant forces me into longer more drawn out fights, but I can take almost any combo hit.

i say you go daredevil and give my build a chance at the same time

A suggestion: drop deadly for daredevil and run CS / trickery / Daredevil with furious strikes, flanking strikes and trickster with withdraw. The damage buffs from DA are finicky there’s a good chance your opponent will have neither condis nor be below 50%.

Heck, executioner is effectively less than a 10% damage boost, as any hard hitting skills are going to do far more than the required damage when opponents are below 50% effectively wasting dps. Mug is nice, but its a long CD. Panic strike is also nice, but effectively useless after its first use and against certain builds.

Pulmonary impact, quickness access and bound will give much better effective DPS.

The Exposed weakness is up almost 100% of the time do to AA and shadowshot, yes Panick Strike can be harder to land an some classes. I have tried Daredevil a bit for the Dash and The Havok Mastery but running exposed weakness instead of PI

My first one I have had since Septemeber 2012 and has been my main, most gameplay has been in sPvP and WvW. With 1099 hours on that thief and the other has 99 hours.

i stopped playing a couple of months after HoT was released and just started again when nvidia’s gtx 1080 came out. i was testing out gw2 when i noticed the alphine maps were back.

I will be updating this thread over the weekend, I have been tweaking a few builds trying to refine them.

After trying the build posted above which is a variant of Darkahearts I found it quiet enjoyable to pilot, I was able to toe to toe against condo cancer Mesmers and other classes that have advantages over Thief in WvW, I will be testing it out more this weekend to provide any updates or tweaks I shall make.

I prefer SA just because it opens up some defenses, but I swap on the fly depending on what I am about to engage. Last night I was running mostly DA, CS, Tri and swapped the food out for the steak fritters and the pants to maurauders over assassins.

what was your 3rd utility and weapon set…is that something you want to leave optional for anyone that might look at the build

I was leaving that optional to what people preferred I choose blinding powder, and SB with Bloodlust Sigil.

do you go for the burst, stealth, backstab and repeat until your target is down.
i know it also depends on the target but which one do you prefer?

from what i can tell, you might be the stealth, backstab thief but i could be wrong.

idk if you notice but i prefer a faster gameplay. moving and swapping back and forth with d/p & d/d.
now and then i must stay stealth, backstab and repeat

I burst hopping in and out of Stealth so I can reposition, and repeat.

I don’t use Backstab as much since it is a huge liability now, I normally shadowshot from stealth which gives me more pressure relief for when my stealth ends, I enjoy the fast gameplay that D/p allows me.

i feel your pain about the mouse. a while back i did had to send back my mamba for a warranty repair, it took about 3-4 weeks

Haven’t gotten to record today, but I went with a Daredevil build using Mara armor zerker weapons and mix of Mara and zerker trinkets, using scrapper runes, I find this armor setup to be a great mix of Survivability and burst.
