My question is: Are ruby orbs or scholar runes better for max dps?

I rerolled an asura thief because they animations are better and I can’t decide if I want to go with scholars or try ruby orbs.

Anyone crunched the numbers?

Scholar is best if you can maintain the bonus

Scholar runes do 2.5% less damage than ruby orbs when your health is below 90%.
If you are above 90% health 25% of the time, you will deal more damage with scholar runes than ruby orbs.”

For roaming & short 1v1 fights I take scholar.
If I expect to do any team fighting then I use ogre.

Scholar. The difference should be even more noticeable with the jump in weapon damage on ascended/legs.

Thanks. My norn is running scholars and I like it. I’m usually at 100% because I have 12k health. Really easy to regen to full with such a low health pool.

All I need now is my ascended back piece and 1 ascended earring and new thief is complete.

i tried all these runes, scholar, orb, ogre in WvW and PvP… but overall i really love the Superior rune of centaur (Withdraw Healing Skill) roaming in WvW and roaming capper in tpvp spvp if u prefer 1v1 il go scholar and when dueling a mesmer,engineer or necro the Ogre rune is my choice.

personally i tested and ran both in quite a while, i suggest go with scholar that 10% extra damage is really big boost + sigil of force 5% and night 10% + 25 stacks of bloodlust, food and nourishment = SICK BS

That bonus on Scholar runes is super nice in PvE, too. Scarlet events, for example, where you are kiting tons of stuff with shortbow (at least I hope you are, that is such an easy loot accumulator, lol)….

^ Agreed with this for PvP and open world traveling, but the bonus is a bit wasted if you’re just min/maxing for dungeons.

Personally, I have a Berserker set with ruby orbs (will upgrade to scholar one day when I have the gold) for PvE and a Valkyrie set with Centaur runes for PvP.
